  1. PSU 231??? does your facility have this in writing and can I get a copy? I am trying to find a way to stay hydrated while working. thank you for your comments.
  2. I have been charged by my CAC to find out more information about the rules of drinking at the nurses station. I know there are many rules against it, I just need to find out the actual rules and laws, with references, to stop the debate once and for all. I am planning on seeing where the laws say we can have drinks (water) to reduce the sited adverse effects of decreased fluid intake. Any help would be appreciated and I could only hope for policies from other hospitals to see what they are doing. Thanks for reading.
  3. But usually there is one of us out there to champion you on, just look for us and we will support you the best we can, we were the ones eaten and refused to be spit out, we are the strong, we are the ones who learned the hard way and refused to be hardened in spirit only in skin. We survived and so shall you.
  4. Washing my hands!!!!
  5. sent you home with instructions to see gastro ASAP, and continue the current abx
  6. I was talking to someone from Hermann Memorial and they do weekend contracts, I think they said 6 months. Try the website. Good luck
  7. just completed a management rotation, and managers stated that money for new grads is limited. be ready to sell yourself, galveston has just begun hiring again and many of them are still here and have the experience to not have to compete with new grads. many hospitals are not even doing internships this year. check out the houston advance for nurses for more information. that is where i read it today! it makes me sad as i prepare to graduate in may.
  8. Would really love to work in such a place. Time will be the true tell of how all of this works out.
  9. Do you think unions will be able to stand up for us against the government? Have you ever been to a VA hospital or heard the stories of why vets are paying for care when the VA will supply the care? While I have never been to a VA hospital, there are many news stories and a few clients that have shared with me about the level of care the government has provided for them. Why would they treat us better than the men who fought for us? for what it is worth now days.
  10. It is my understanding that while the nurse has a more stable job the employer can not get rid of a bad employee as fast? Also, I think history shows us it can be hard to get into a union, and if you are not in the union, you do not work?: I sure wish I understood this better. But with the global health care initiative, this may be a mute point anyway. Are we ready to work for the government?
  11. "When you can't keep the information strait, how do you expect us to get the information at all?" After about 3 corrections in one sentence the information gets convoluted and no longer is an educational experience. Get a clue before you start. To my most recent clinical instructor: Don't come to the hospital in your PJ's............This makes us all look bad, then to boot, margarita plans in front of the students...........makes us look worse. \ I hate Pediatrics even more now.
  12. The only thing I try to remember is............. This is only what they had to do for their instructors..........and they are nicer to us.
  13. wow, study really hard. There are not enough teachers to go around, that's for sure. I widh you all the best. I am doing the conversion and competing for one of seven spots I think. You might ask a councelor or nursing director what they are looking for. Not sure they can or will tell though, Good luck
  14. I currently have both and in a hospital there is not much a CMA can do. But if a doctor decides, (CMA's work under the doctors license) a CMA can do anything the doctor teaches them. But finding that doctor is not easy. Mostly it is vitals and rooming patients, if your lucky, blood draws and injections.
