  1. Well..... I did give my two weeks notice and now I have a job I love. I had to be true to myself and not just settle for less than what was an ideal workplace for me.
  2. If I do not work in direct patient care, am I required to give a two weeks notice before quitting?
  3. Algernon, I am a nurse today partially because of your post. I failed the first time and did not want to take it again...that is until I read your post. You gave me the determination to pass the NCLEX, I only hope and pray that those who have read your post can motivate you as well. I believe in you, and I know you believe in you, so please re-take the NCLEX, you can and will pass.
  4. I had this same problem...everyone I spoke with said "sorry, we need experienced nurses". I'd ask how do I gain experience if no one will give me a job and one replied " honey, I'm sorry, I don't know." I agree with the last post...you must appear confident and eventually someone will give you a chance. Please do not give up. You've come too far! Just hang in there. I felt like I was banging my head against the wall, but I just knew I had to keep banging until the wall came down.......you can do it.
  5. How much should a new grad expect to receive for starting pay for home health in Virginia?
  6. I wish I could get an office job. I am a new licensee with no job....everyone seems to want at least 1 year experience before they will consider you. Well.........how do I get the experience if no one will hire me? I've taken care of a family member for 1 year, did trach care and peg tube care, so I do know some things.
  7. UVA Grad Nursing, the hospitals post opening on the website and I only saw 1 or 2 openings. I will apply for them, however everyone wants at least 1 year experience. I am so discouraged. Oh, I'm a LPN. I suppose I can still call their HR dept...it's worth a try.
  8. I would consider the DC area. I lived there a few years back.
  9. Flames9, I am in Richmond. And I've applied at a couple of nursing homes and home health agencies.
  10. I just received my license and I do not know of any places hiring nurses without experience. I'd love to work in a physicians office, but will consider anything just to obtain experience.
  11. congratulations!!!!! you see...all that worrying for nothing. i felt the same way you did and i too passed. for some reason that test takes alot out of you and makes you doubt yourself. i wanted to cry after i took my test but i couldnt because i still held on to hope of my passing. you did it!!!!!! go celebrate!!!! :yeah::yeah::yeah:
  12. Studyinghard2bLPN: I didint really give myself a time frame. I just knew I had to take my time but also get it done. On those days when I felt I couldnt pick up a book to study, I just didnt pick it up! I gave myself time to live my normal life while at the same time studying. I did a little studying each day, not hours and hours as some people did. That was too much for me. Everyone is different so I believe you will find the way that works best for you. You will know its working for you when you start answering the questions correctly. I had to think like that old Nike commercial ad.....JUST DO IT! The saying "nothing beats a failure but a try" is so true. Also, I did not tell anyone I was preparing for the exam for the second time...so that cut down on the outside stress. While taking the exam I took breaks and I think that helped me too. I'm sending you prayers and hopes of your passing too!
  13. Just buy or borrow one up to date review book, I used Kaplans strategies 2009. Take your time taking in the tips and practice the questions in the back of the book. For any question you get incorrect study the rational and understand it completely. Believe in yourself and take your time with it....
  14. Congrats to you!!!!!! You did it. I am so glad you did not give up on your goal of becoming a rn. :yeah::yeah:
  15. Studyinghard2bLPN I used the kaplans strategies book and did the practice questions in the back of that book. As I answered the questions I'd review the rationals for the ones I answered incorrect. I think if you use several different books it become too much to absorb and that makes it overwhelming. I also opted to go to the bookstore or library to study rather than staying home where there are distractions. Best of luck to you, you can do it !
  16. I passed on my second attempt with approx 170 questions, so yes it can be done. Hang in there, your questions sound exacty like mine.
  17. SadNBlue, I took NCLEX PN. I got lots of meds, and prioritization questions.
  18. LVdreamer, thanks! Yes Algernon did inspire me, but I still wonder if he passed or not????? I hope he didn't get discouraged if he didn't pass because he sure helped me get going.
  19. Yes Stefano, you can do it! You've got to believe you can do it. I must admit I did have my days when I wanted to just call it quits for good, but I told myself I'd put too much into it (school) to give up. Just take your time taking the practice questions and you will become at ease with the format of the test and on test day you will be less stressed.
  20. I feel you on this one. I know it was HE who allowed me to pass the exam. As I was trying to study for the second time around I felt I had studied all I could, I didnt have it in me to do anymore and I completely gave my trust to God. I pray and prayed and I passed! He allowed me to make it through school and the exam! Congratulations to you and your nursing career!!
  21. YES YOU CAN PASS!!! Did you read my post from earlier today? I've been out of school for 12 years and I passed. Let me tell you, it was very hard for me to get motivated to study and I felt overwhelmed alot. But it was all my fault, I kept thinking why did I wait so long to take the test? And that negative thinking was holding me down and making me feel useless and like a failure. Then I purchased Kaplan's strategies book, its a good tool to help you get back in the swing of things. If you can, get the book and take it very slow when reading and doing the practice questions. Don't let it overwhelm you. Just a little at a time. Just think... we wasted alot of precious time not taking the exam so why rush to study now and think we can pass it? We have to invest study time. But just take it slow. I only read a little at a time and carried on with the rest of my life. I didn't study for hours at a time like alot of the people have posted, that would have driven me nuts! After 12 years of doing nothing, I felt I owed it to myself to finish what I started no matter what. So even if you don't pass it the next time, keep taking it. Just don't freeze up and let this test get the best of you...after all it is only a test. You can conquer the test, get the book if you can. Positive thinking goes a long way. I too had become discouraged and wanted to give up, but if I passed nursing school I knew deep down I had what it take to pass one last exam. Just keep on going you will make it. :)
  22. You can do it...just dont give up. You made it through nursing school you will pass this test too!!! Just take your time when reading and answering the questions. Are you doing any practice questions? I used Kaplans strategies book, it helped alot. Good luck to your in passing NCLEX. I know you can do it.
  23. Here is my story.....I completed school 12 years ago, took the NCLEX in March of this year for the first time and failed with 205 questions. I re-took the exam yesterday and found out this am I passed. I must admit when I was answering my 86th question yesterday I felt I was going all the way to the end just as before. I had mixed emotions when the computer stopped at around 170 questions. I had no idea if I passed or not....I was up all night long and will try to get some sleep once I complete this post. However, I feel energized enough to go for a nice walk in the park...but its too cold, so I'll try to sleep instead. I say all this just to try to motivate those who have failed in the past and may feel you will not ever pass. Whatever you do please do not give up, believe in yourself, pray and pray some more. When testing don't worry so much about running out of time, take your time and rule out the options you know for a fact are incorrect and apply your nursing knowledge to select the best response and you will pass! Stay positive, even if you may doubt your ability to pass don't say you will fail, say outloud you will pass. Actually I must admit Algernon gave me motivation to take the exam for the second time. I thought if he can take the exam without studying and I have studied, what are my chances of passing???? As he said, it is just a test and worst case, I had to tell myself even in the event I don't pass this time I can always test again. And you can too.....don't give up! Thank you Jesus!!!!!! :bowingpur
  24. How long did you have to wait for your NCLEX result to be posted?
  25. After your last NCLEX question did your screen turn blue and you found out you passed, and if you did not pass your screen turned gray?
