New Grad settled for office job! help1
Just graduated, wanted med-surg, applied every where, hospitals, clinics, LTC, 2 months after I graduated I still did not have a job. Major bills piling up, had to get a job. An office called interveiwed, started next day, then hosp. called but only with prn, could not give up full time job for prn. The problem, all I do is computer work, shots, vitals, strp/flu test. This is so not what I went to school for. I don't feel like a "real" nurse. I was so excited to pass boards and so ready to begin my big career, such a let down. The plus is I have a full time job, good hours, no weekends, no holidays and I have 2 kids I have neglected for the last year in school, but I feel so depressed. This is a great job, good doctors, awesome doctors, great people to work with, but.......... Then I think well maybe I am being unrealistic about my thinkin about the hospital, maybe i would not love it. but how am I to know.???????? I am thinkin wait till first of year and try again for hosp. everyone says you have to start prn to get foot in door, but what if I hate it, and I throw away one of the best jobs ever? HELP!

Are these feelings normal?
Thanks so much for the replies! We had our first to drop yesterday, so we now have 31.And there does seem to be 2-3 they ride hard. I have never just quit anything, so If I don't make it it will be because of grades, I try not to think about it but know the pharmacology thing scares me as I am not good in math, and they say alot flunk out in mental health, but I know I must take it day by day, thanks so much! {for making me feel normal again;) }

Are these feelings normal?
This only my 5 th week of lpn school, and since the first week I have been thru so many range of emoitons;) I am constanly doubting myself, Can I do this?, Do I want to do this?, Did I sign up for this?, I feel so overwhelmed , can not imagine 11 more months, some say hold on till Dec, you start clincials and it gets easier. Is that true? Any advice? How do you know its not for you instead of fear talking? My grades averages are 88 for this unit,I seem to do alot of studying for things that are not even on the test! the skills make me nervous having teachers on my shoulders to do SIMPLE things, so how am I gonna feel when its something real? I would almost say I am depressed, which is really new to me! any advice? Thanks!

2nd Week Of School, Huge Work Load?
I just started this week, with a 4 day week. I knew I would get overwhelmed, but never expected to start out that way;) I have never been through so many different emotions in 4 days! And made me question my decision, hope thats normal! And I am telling myself take one day at a time, if I start worrying about next week now, I am really in trouble! I find my brain can not take any anymore info after 3-4 hours of study! Just hang on and take one day at a time, maybe we can get through this!!!!

Hey guys, you know I never thought about how long the interveiw was, I guess it was 5-10 minutes, felt like a long time!!! Another thing, on orentation they got the grad class to talk to us, they said only 17 out of 41 made it!!!!!! Did any of your schools have that high fo a drop out rate? They also said they had a 100% passing on board rate.Only a few more days of freedom left:), I have been a teacher aide with summers off So I am sure I will miss my summers:)!

Hey! I am not sure if this will help you but I am about to begin LPN school next week, and to better my chances of getting in I took Medical Terminology class at a local vo-tech center. It was so MUCH FUN! We learned the terminology watching videos. They called it audionyms, it was really silly pictures, and it was amazing how it worked. You may be able to buy the video online? It was supose to have a 95% retiton rate. We'll see;)

TN tech center @ Nashville
What was the process you had to go thru? I am assuming its differnt for all Tech. centers. We had to take the NET but was told as long as we passed it was fine that higher scores did not mean you would be accepted . Then we had an interveiw, and I felt like they knew who they were chossing then. Did they stress to you guys they did not want you working?? I had not planned on working but I got hooked up with a gal from the local hospital who was talking to me about partime work on weekends. We are going to see how school goes first. I really don't know what to expect, I have heard some grads say they spent 4-6 hours a NIGHT studying! Then some say they worked partime? I am prepared to budget !!
