  1. For the pro, you can be a witness on a beginning of a new life and the end of a life of a person. the con is you have to stay focus on everything that you do because you are responsible with the life of others.

who do you prefer more, a competent person without license or a person who is quite competent but has license?

Again i am open to any opinions.....

  8. me too. not because of my instructor but i just simply not fond of attending to pediatric patients. i am having hard time in taking the vital signs of my pedia patients and most of them cry when me and my classmates started to enter their rooms as if we are monsters.
  9. our clinical instructor in medical surgical nursing is a very generous man. he became our instructor starting when we were in our 2nd semester of our third year. he was good in explaining in the simple way everything under med-surg nursing even the most complicated pathophysiology. actually he is one of my favorite instructor that is why i have the passion in this subject area. but the other side of him makes the student nervous. he came from another good nursing school here in our town before he was hired in our school. actually we were his first handled class when he transfered. what we heard about him from his previous students in the other school is that he is very strict in grades in which when you failed, you really failed and you have to repeat the subject itself. upon hearing that news, we strived very hard in his subject. we read a lot from our book and attentively listened to his lecture even sometimes we feel sleepy due to being so tired. when the 2nd semester ended, he posted at the office the students who have passed the subject and luckily i am one of those. the other students were given the second chance to take again another exam and will see if they will really pass. students who got 78 was given another chance while the others are not. the passing grade in our school is 80. some of the retakers passed and some did not so they do not have the choice but to repeat the subject again. on our summer class, he was again choosen to be our instructor in psychiatric nursing. again he is good but there was a slight problem since we have to take up psychiatric nursing in a fast pace in preparation for our affiliation. after the summer class others have failed again and others were given again the chance to take a revalida. on our first semester for our 4th year, we have to have another specal class to him since we are not yet finshed with med-surg. at the end of the semester. some failed even my friend. they were given the chance to take the revalida and all of them "passed." i was really surprised that the students who have taken the revalida are still the students who are keep on failing every semester. they are just lucky to pass in every revalida. because of a good source which is my friend, she told me that on that last revalida she really passed while the other students did not. and because of that my instructor felt pity on those students and gave them the chance to pass. he just adjusted the grade. now we are candidates for graduation and we still have are special class on him. he is now having a hard time to some of my classmates who are not attending the class. and those who are not attending are those students who he has given the consideration. i was so sad for my intstructor because after all he have done, this is what he gets from those students........... what do you think and what would you feel on this?
  10. i definitely understand your feelings toward the said expense. but for my opinion, it is already expected, in the case of my country, that once you decided to take up nursing, you are going to spend quite a big amount that sometimes we have to sacrifice things just to pay for our requirements. if it is the instruction of your school and it is what it is, then just conform on it since you have choosen that school which gives you the respinsibility as their student to follow their own standard. if you students really cannot afford it then confrontation with the organizer of the pinning ceremony is the answer. confrontation with respect. knowing that you are a candidate, i congratulate you in advance but do not feel safe yet because you have still a long way to run. goodluck and God bless!
  11. Before we ended up with the decision of taking up Nursing, we first undergone in a serious deliberation finding the good reason why we should take up nursing. others realizes that reason before taking it up while others like me realizes it at the midst of the course. the truth is i took up nursing because it is in-demand and it is my parents choice. it really does not matter to me these factors since i told myself that i'll go for whatever my parents will say because i do not have any idea about the other courses here in my country. when i started to study the different skills in nursing, sleeping around 2 am or sometimes without sleep, reading several chapters, integrating in my mind different values, i started to have my own reason. and the reason is.....................nursing is a challenge for. it gives my life a spice that it prevents me from getting bored. even though it is a stresses me a lot, i love it and i want to prove that i can survive from its nature. it gives me another reason to wake up in the morning and face the challenges waiting for me in the real world. it also gives the chance to interact with different kind of person which helps alot for me to grow as an independent and strong person. sounds like a weird reason but its true. i get tired when i am doing nothing and i get energized whenever i am bombarded with a lot of stuff in nursing. want to know yours! AND THE REASON IS................................................ ...........

  13. What are the best things to do after graduating or after finishing nursing? just want to because i am graduating this March 2009.
  14. are you the kind of person that is satisfied already in passing the exam or on the other side in which you are satisfied because you got the highest grade? i am the kind of person which is not satisfied on just passing my exams, i always aim to be the one who will get the highest grade in our exams in major subjects. i get sad and depressed when i am not the highest which is not a good thing. there are already several times that i got the highest grade especially when we were in third year and the last time i got the highest grade is on our preliminary examination on Nursing management and leadership. i was not expecting it actually but thank God i was able to do it. because of this attitude, my friends would tell me that i should be happy because i passed compared to our other classmates who really failed in the exam. i am still trying avoid that kind of attitude even though there are only 2 months before our graduation. for you, what do you want, to pass or to be the highest?
  15. well, it's a good care plan since you made it specific, measurable, attainable, realistic and time-framed. i think the only thing that you should indicate is that the first intervention is a dependent nursing intervention. there is no problem in including other interventions that is being actually performed by other professions as long as you include those interventions at the dependent nursing interventions. even though it is the action of others, we too nurses has a role in that action. like giving that medication, we should know when to give that kind of medication and why is that med is given to that patient. it is also our responsibility to watch out for some adverse effect of the drug. hope this one will help. good luck for your future care plans.
  16. just want to know! what was the biggest or worst problem you ever had while taking up nursing. me, the time when we had a financial problem which almost made me stop in going to school and continue nursing. luckily, somebody saved me from that problem. now, i am a graduating student. what' yours?
  17. this is our dilemma since we were in our second year of nursing. our school has a lot of extra curricular activities which we are obliged to attend. it supposed to be not a problem at all but what happens is that some of the activities is being held along with our scheduled hospital duties. what they do is let us attend the said extra curricular activities instead of going to our hospital duties. after that, they will extend the days of our duty just to make it up to the days we have lost in our hospital duties. instead of completing the required hours of duty at the right time, we spend additional days just to reach the required hours. yes it is our responsibility to attend those activities because we are part of the school. but the problem is sometimes the activities are not already connected with the nursing field. sometimes we feel that we have just wasted our time attending those activities instead of learning new in the hospital. i may say that our school has a good educational system. but what we want is to finish things on time for us to have our rest before starting another semester. is your school like this? just want to know if there are other students having dilemma like this one?
  18. Does anyone of you feels the way i feel at this moment? i am a graduating student here in the Philippines finishing Bachelor of Science in Nursing this coming march. but even though i am already near at the finish line of this challenge in my life, i feel that i am going to cross in the line with few knowledge at all. the real problem is that my memory easily flushes some important details in my previous subjects especially the major ones. for example, when i am being asked in anatomy in physiology, i know that we have tackled it already way back when i was in the first level but still i cannot recall it at all anymore, maybe i can answer it but not in a much detailed way already. even some basic skills in my second year and some disorders which we have finished when we were in our third year. i don't know what is happening to me because i can say that in our previous subjects and until now, i have a good performance that sometimes i get the highest grade in our class. in my everyday life in school, as lectures and skills being taught gets more and more, the more my previous knowledge gets flushed out of my memory. there are some instances in our duty when my clinical instructor would ask me something and i forgot the exact idea for that question, I'll just scratch the back of my head and do the best that i can do just to recall it. what i do is to run and get back to my notes and then say to myself, "oh, now i remember." sometimes, my clinical instructor would say that i have already the idea but the problem is that i have forgotten it already. because of this, i decided not to take the June 2009 local board exam but instead, I'll take it on November this year. i promised myself that after i graduated, I'll get back on my notes starting on my first year up to my fourth year for the whole 8 months of my review for the November 2009 board exam. Good luck to me and to all of batch of 2009!
  19. it all depends in three things. first is that if i am close withe the nurse that used to be my classmate, then why not. but if i am not close, sorry but i'll refuse. second thing is that if that classmate of mine has a good nursing skill that can handle me well enough, then again, why not. lastly, it depends on my case or condition. let us face the reality that even though we are aware that information about the patient must be kept confidential, there are still leakage which soon becomes a talk of the town already. but to be sure that no classmate will handle me, I'll take care of myself so that i will not be hospitalized.
  20. i also experience it sometimes. some of my classmates tend to cheat and obtain grades that i know in myself that they do not deserve. i know that this is not the best advice but what i do to handle the situation is ignoring them. for me, i know that i have a clean conscience because i am not doing anything "evil." just continue to get good grades your own because at the end, the one who have cheated will be graduating with few knowledge concerning the field and will be worst in her future job because the truth is that she really did not understand anything even the basics.
  21. hi, i can say that i can relate to what you have posted. i am taking up BSN course here in the Philippines and it is my 4th and last year in the course. when i was in my 2nd year we had a financial problem which placed my studies in jeopardy. i am not supposed to enroll in the 2nd semester but suddenly due to my good performance, my Clinical instructors and classmates helped me to get back to school. luckily, the partner hospital of my school offered me a scholarship and until now, they are the one who supports my studies. actually it is a secret scholarship, and i am proud that i was the first student to be granted. this time, we are two in the scholarship. the other one is a third year student. at last i am graduating this march of 2009. in return, the board members of the hospital told me that i have to work in their Hospital for about 3-4 years. i am still thinking if i will agree to it because i wanted to work abroad as soon as i completed my job experience. i am also thinking if i will receive a good salary. but surely after i passed the local board exam here in the Philippines, i will spend my first two years in that hospital and it already depends if i will make it to 3 or 4 years more because i am thinking if the board members will allow me to stay only for 2-3 years and continue it after working abroad.
