How does one learn injections?
I have been offered a position at a pain clinic doing injections. I took a course that was very good. Unfortunately it was only 8 hours and using mannequins. My specialty is anesthesia and I have worked at a pain center, but I did the sedation for the procedures. I would love to take this new job because it is 10 minutes from my house. How can I learn the injections?

Still on orientation....need a letter of recommendation
I second that. Just get one from your old ICU supervisor. That would make more sense

New Grad Orientation
As a new graduate, what was your orientation? I've spoken to people who have had training with CRNA at their new jobs for a month or so. Then I know of others who had their own room on the first day. What was your experience?

SRNA Puerto Rico
You don't have to be a native Spanish speaker. I start in June and speak very little Spanish. The notes, books, and exams are in English. You must know conversational Spanish for clinicals. I was also told that the teachers may teach in Spanish or English, but the majority of the doctors speak English.

Puerto Rico
I posted this in a different forum, but was instructed to posted all posts on PR here. I'm planning to move to in PR in August and I must have a nursing license,. I've been warned by the facility that it could take from 6-9 months to get it. THEN they said they're not sure how I can go about getting it as in their experience, the know the Junta Examinadora de Enfermeros y Enfermeras (where I must apply for licensure by endorsement) do not answer their phones. They then recommended that I fly to PR in January just to get the paperwork to fill out for the license and send it back in. Is it just me or is that a bit much? Does anyone know of a website that I could print the forms from or better yet, can anyone here mail me some?

Contract tips
Hi, I've never traveled but I plan to start next month. I was told that if you cancel that depending on the agency, you have to pay for apt. and utilities for 3 months if you cancel and you might even have to pay the agency the monies that they would have made had you completed the contract. I was told the best thing to do if youre unhappy, is to call out every day. They said that way, the hospital wll cancel you and you won't be stuck paying the cost. Hope this ehelps and I'l say a praer for your family.

Nurse Manager Bootcamp
Has anyone attended any nurse manager seminsra? I was looking for some resources and I came across John's Hopkin's Nurse Manager academy and also a Nurse Manger Boot Camp that lasts for 5 days that is taught by crosscountryeducation.com. Both programs seem like they might be good ( they should be for $3,000) but I work at a small hopsital and that a large sum of money to pay. I was wondering if anyone recommended either of these programs. Thanks

I NEED to be Trained !HELP!
Thanks for the advice! Here we are not responsible for the labor and the delivery, we call nurses in for that. My problem is that as soon as the baby is out and the initial paperwork is done both mom and baby are sent to the floor. Patients may hemmorrahge and have all kinds of complications. Not only do I have the responsibility of being charge nurse and have to do all admissions, and help my other nurses with any problems that may arise, but I also have 3-4 patients of my own. I am definately looking into the stable program and sny seminars that I can find. Thanks again for all of your help!

I NEED to be Trained !HELP!
Hi Guys, I am a charge nurse at a small rural hospital. We deliver babies but have no L&D nurse most nights. I often come in to find that I have to care for a new mom and baby and I have no experience with post partum at all( other than nursing school 6 years ago). When I tell the off going nurse this, I get a brief run down on a fundus but it's not at all what I need to porperly care for my patients. No one has had any major complications but I would like to feel secure in knowing that I would know what to do in the event of an emergency or even just notice when something's not right. It might also help if I knew about a boggy fundus and wht type of teaching I need to do for my patients. I don't want to orient under the staff here because I feel that they are sloppy and do not do a good job. I love my job and the facility, but I refuse to keep taking on the liability of caring for patients and I know nothing about this type of nursing. I've never had any kids so I don't know whether this bleeding is too much, too little etc. I'm a complete novice. Unfortunately no one here seems to care. I guess just becuase I've been a nurse for a number of years they figure I can handle it. I have complainded several times, but it never fails that I always walk back in to the same situation. So, I've decided to take matters into my own hands. Does anyone know of any good seminars or courses that I can take to orient me to L&D and post partum care? PLEASE HELP ME! Thanks in advance :-)

futurenurseanesthetist
I don't think she had a problem with cleaning butts, she just wanted to know. I'm a RN and I've cleaned many a butt and, being that I've only been nursing for 3 years, 2 days a week, I still manage to do it with a smile! Personally, I think it was a good question! I never would have thought of it, but once I read her post, I was very curious to find out myself. It did take a while for someone to finally answer her instead of jumping down her throat. How else would she know if she doesn't ask? Thanks Dontae! Ursula

med school vs. CRNA
I had a simular question posted on 5/18/03 called "Ever considered becoming MDA ? " I questioned going to med school. I'm not in your situation though. I am a nurse who pondered medical school! I think your choice should be based on the career path you would like. It might take a while to become a CRNA, but medical school won't be completed in a blink of an eye either. You do not have to have a nursing degree to become an anesthetist. Many nurse anesthesia programs accept applicants with non nursing degrees. Check out http://www.aana.com for education requirements. Take a peek at the replies to my post, they really gave me some insight. This is kinda like the blind leading the blind. Good Luck Ursula

I much like yourself will be taking a research course this summer. I am in a nursing administration role. Anyone know any good research topics dealing with cost ?
