Hey guys! Im a swedish trained nurse with 5 years of working experience. Does anyone of you know how much the bridging program cost?

you could at least have told him that you are not interested. I know that, when I find a woman interested, i´ll do anything to find her. I will ask my friends, try to find her online etc. Havn´t you ever been interested in a guy where you have done everything to find him? The worst thing that can happen is that you would get a rejection. No big deal, but at least you gave it a try. I dont know how many times I have got a good connection with girls and then forgot to ask them for their phone numbers.

I would actually consider to work for free, if an employer is hesitating hire me or not. The money doesnt care either, I would even work for 15 dollars an hour because the most crucial time after you graduating is not how much money you can make but to gain experience. Every employer is looking for an experienced nurse with a least a year under their belt so even if it is bad paid the first year, you wont die. But most importantly, you get experience and that will take you to the next step to find another employer with a better salary.

hey! Im an international student who applied to nursing school last semester, they told me that I would get in by spring 11! Im so tired of waiting....At the same time, I read some interesting news about the RT program (Respiratory Therapist) and I actually applied for that program last week. Nursing is my biggest dream in life and thats what I wanna do, but due to the retrogression maybe RT is a better choice even though the work may be limited? If I dont like the program, I can go back to nursing school either way because they told me I would get in this fall! No waiting at all.. My question is, are Respiratory Therapists affected by the nursing retrogression? Is it easy to work in the US with an ADN degree in Respiratory Therapy? Maybe this is the wrong forum to ask? thanks.

it is really sad to see that you cannot be proud of who you are and where you are from. We are all proud of who we are no matter if we are yellow, grey, spanish, brazilian or whatever we are. When I work in nursing homes, I often hear a thing or two. Its often older people that have something to say. It is funny how we are supposed to look up to older people, when they in fact are behaving less acceptable than most people are. You loose your respect for them because they should know better. Or at least you hope, sometimes 80-90 years isnt even enough.. People will always have something to say in life, sometimes it satisfies you, sometimes it doesnt. Many times, it wont and at that time no matter how sad, humilated and angry you feel, just ignore it. Because you know, and I know that you are so much better than those people. Thank god for us having learned that we are all the same and at the end, we should all be united instead of devided.

The reason why US schools love internation students are because we pay full tuition. By that I mean, US Colleges must share the money they get from US residents for tuition fee which are then devided by X amounts of colleges in your state or city. BUT with an international student, the college does not have to share the money with the rest of the state or city, so the money goes directly into to the school. Thats what I have been told.

Is it impossible to apply for a H1B visa if you are a foreign us trained student with an ADN? that would make the ADN program pretty useless..

Why not just apply for a working visa? A H1B visa?

you are right, have to do some serious thinking. About krokomosse, I didnt even know that we had a city (village) called like that in sweden! Lol, but I google it and Its located outside Kungalv. the correct name of that village is "kroksmosse". I can search for that person. What is his/her name?

Im not struggling with the prerequisites, im getting good grades, but the 12 hour studying is how I study. I dont need to study 12 hours a day, but I want to, because the information is interesting, so its volentary. About sweden and nursing school , the reason why you have to take additional classes is because, different terminology, different procedures, clinicals are little different from US etc. I can tell you that the information I have learned in the us is nothing that I know of in swedish. What im trying to say is that, if I had to explain the HIV virus for a patient in sweden for example, it would be much harder because I have learned it in english. ah.. i hope you know what im trying to say. To work in sweden, you have to basicly speak fluent swedish. there are some international nurses there, and a lot of the patients may not always understand english terms/ medical terms which can make it hard to understand the nurse/doctor. you have to take a nursing assessment test which is in swedish. So theres a lot of differences between us and swedish nurses, but I think swedish nurses are so bad! I work in a nursing home during the summers in sweden, and I see patients asking the nurses questions like, "why is that good for me?" or "what does that do?" and there answers are - " i dont know" . things like that makes me angry. Thank god only few of them are like that, but I believe that american nurses are more skillful than swedish, thats why I dont wanna end up like that.

i know.. you are right.. I will graduation in fall 2012, opt ends in 2013. By then, everything should be OK? I have created a life here.. its so hard to say goodbye to everything... but im fully aware of problems ahead of me. I will forget everything I have learned in english, all the vocabulary, etc.. I have a lot to think about.. life is so unfair sometimes.

I know im doing something very risky.. its just.. I have spent so many hours, energy to get into nursing school. I have been studying from 9am - 9pm 4-5 times a week. Its been blood, sweat and tears! Many tears.. I have put down my soul in this... so for me, its very hard to lay down a very good pokerhand if you know what I mean. This has been my world för 2,5 years now. I have no motivation at all to start over in sweden.. sigh.. im just so sad... The nursing education in the US is different from the one in sweden. If I go back with my ADN or even get a BSN, I still have to go back to school, to take additional courses before im eligible to work. But I guess that even the greatest poker players must fold a very good hand sometimes...

please, give me a break.. stop assuming things because you have no clue about what you just said! I have wanted to become a nurse for over 10 years now. My goal is to become the greatest nurse in the world and I believe I was born to be a nurse. My goal has all the time been to work in the US, thats why I got here. So NO! I havent spent 60 000 $ so far to work in another country than the US! Understood?

I do not want to become a nurse somewhere else than in the US.. but I applied for nursing school today even if its a risky move, but I dont really care.. life is about taking chances and I only live once. the problem is that my degree is not valid in sweden... so its basicaly.. im going ALL-IN, this is it.. :/

No its not true, you can work in the US with an ADN, . And yes, everyone can take the NCLEX Exam. but the problem is that due to retrogression, the US is not giving away any green cards. and since 2006, a lot of people are already on that waiting list, waiting to get a green card. Hospitals will not sponsor you with a BS until the retrogression is over;/. They wont sponsor you at all right now.

I believe i was born to be a nurse, this is something that struck me a couple of years ago. I´ve had a tough life, but at the same time I have gained a lot from that which I think will help me become a better nurse. Would also like to say thank you to the TV Show ER, who opened my eyes. Sometimes it is those little signs that can change your life. my biggest dream in life, to become the greatest nurse in the world.

the financial aid I get from sweden each semester is 10 000 dollars. the community college cost 3200 dollars/semester + living expenses, so its expensive. and 120K is a lot of money, but there is no difference in paycheck between ADN and BSN, so i would assume that paying back the money would be no problem. But you are right and I have been thinking in terms like moving to UK or so. Maybe i should get a different degree in sweden and then move to the UK. And the US I can always dream about.. my community college do offer a Respiratory Therapy Program and I have all the prerequisites to apply. do you think it would be hard to get a green card after getting my license. It may not be a nursing career but it is a work in a hospital environment where you get to take care of other people which i want to do.

I have spent so much time and money to become a nurse in the US, so other countries would not be an option. and if I take my ADN in the US, it will not be valid in sweden, only the BSN is valid. And I cant really afford going to a unversity to get my BSN in nursing. only the tution fee would be + 20000 dollars/year. I dont know what to do.. is it possible to work in canada with my ADN + RN license after passing the NCLEX ?

my grades are too low to apply for nursing school in sweden. my gpa in sweden is 3.0, you need at least 3.3. thats why i moved to the us from the beginning. i was accepted by my grades + to get the knowledge, experience and practice to stay and work. So going back to sweden means that i will never become a nurse. this was my only chance :/. One of the few dreams I have in life, but maybe you are right, maybe i should go back home.. i have to think a little bit. thank you for your answer though.

finally done..spent 8 hours reading all the 95 pages. I have a question for you suzanne4. Im an international student from sweden (born in iran, but lived my whole life in sweden, since the age of 1) and in 2 weeks im about to apply for the ADN program the community college if offering. the waiting list will be for 2 semester, meaning i will get in Fall 2010. And then 2 years of nursing school + getting my NCLEX -> i will be done by the end of 2012. then I can apply for OPT and work for a year, which will end 2013. whats the chances of this whole circus (retrogression) being over by end of 2013? Maybe I should give up becoming a nurse? I want to become a nurse so badly.. By the time I will be done with school, i will have a 120 000 dollar debt which needs to be paid and im scared and terrified that all this time and effort being spent, would be for nothing. I wish I was born in the US..
