  1. ... so what's needed to be able to qualify as informatics nurse? would it mean that my previous degree in computer science would all come to waste? thanks
  2. count me in... I am both a graduate of BS Math major in Computer Science and BS NUrsing.... now I don't know where to begin... is being a graduate of both courses enough for me to work as a nurse informaticist just now? I recently passed NCLEX california and heard about this nursing informatics stuff.... but i cant find any nurse informatics job here in the philippines... perhaps it still doesn't exist here...
  3. I am one of recently NCLEX passers who used to be a computer analyst/programmer... Well, I love nursing now 'coz to work in a Hospital used to be my childhood dream (I don't know why did I ever entered computer science)... Lately, I've been hearing about this nursing informatics type of job and I don't know where to start... it's as if I wanted to try nursing informatics so as not to waste my former profession... however, it seems to me that nursing informatics is not yet existent in the Philippines...
  4. i am a graduate of b.s. math major in computer science with employment backround in it... recently, i am also a graduate of b.s nursing and passed nclex in california... does this mean i'm automatically qualified to work as a nurse informaticist? it seems to me that this particular job is still non-existent here in the philippines...
  5. in ANY group.... there's always a possibility of a rotten apple... we can't please everybody
  6. 1. what are the materials that you used? mosby and kaplan trainer only... 2. how many hours per day did you study? how many questions did u answer per day? 3-4 hours, 100-150 questions a day... 3. how many days or months in total you studied before taking the exam? less than a month (hmmm... dec 27 - jan 23) 4. what are the specific strategies that you used or the the test taking skills you applied during the exam? elimination, abcs, maslows, odd man out... lots of prayers 5. take one or take two? take 1... stopped at 75 questions
  7. ..took my nclex-ca january 24, 2008 at trident tower in manila... how many questions you had on your exam? 75 what did you use as a review material? only 2.... mosby review and kaplan trainer (both from computers) enrolled in a review center or home study? home study from dec. 27, 2007 to jan. 23, 2008 percentage of topics youre very familiar with on the actual nclex questions? more than 80% i think... what did you feel after you finish your exam? confident... but anxious for 3 weeks... i finally got my letter from ca-bon today february 13, 2008 (kinda fast) ... and i passed take 1... thanks to god!!
  8. i graduated last april 2006 at one of the nursing schools here in manila... at that time, i felt the pressure of taking the june 2006 nle because: 1st, i realized that taking nle is not something that you urgently must take right after graduation... earning a bsn degree doesn't really mean we're already loaded with ammunitions enough to conquer the rigorous exam... 2nd, i was a member of the student council representing not just nursing but the whole bunch of students in that college... with so many things needed to finish before graduation, i can't get myself into reviews, i was tied up with so much responsibilities... i envied my classmates who, as early as january, have the time to go to review centers while going to school.. ...for some reason, im really considering to take the dec 2006 exam knowing that it will delay me for 6 months... my parents were angry saying that im wasting time but when the ill-fated june 2006 exam took centerstage, i prayed to god that somehow he guided me to delay taking nle in order to study further... my opinion with the leakage still remains the same... one of the members of bon (i think there were 5 at that time) should be apprehended for tarnishing the nursing reputation in the philippines... there's no magic in it... one of them expedited the questionnaires for money...
  9. case in point... if you are 3 months from the date of your nclex exam, you can read a book for 2 months (saunders is good for this purpose) but if you only have 1 month left, just answer questions that mimic the nclex style in the computers (i used mosby and kaplan trainer for this purpose) relying solely on books doesn't get you closer to understanding rationales in actual questions... the reason for this is that nursing encompasses a wide range of topics and with the time/pressure factor, we can't really saturate our brains with that tons of information... there's always this tendency to forget... answering questions on the other hand provides our minds with stimulation that provokes critical thinking that we can't get by reading books alone...
  10. the BON members are the only people who make the examinations... therefore its logical to think that the leakage CAME FROM 1 OF THEM!! t
  11. go to the CGFNS website and create an account...enter your CGFNS number...apply for the VS service... by doing this, all the data that has been used will be re-used for your VS (unless ICHP notify you to redo a requirement - you can readily see this at your VS status after you have finished the VS application)
  12. 1. create an online account at the CGFNS website... 2. make sure you enter your CGFNS number... 3. apply for the VISA SCREEN service online for faster processing 4. all the data that was used in your CGFNS will be automatically forwarded and re-used in the VISA SCREEN application 5. after VISA SCREEN application is finished, go and check your ORDER status and click for the VISA SCREEN, then press "GO" 6. you will see all the required documents needed for the VS and their corresponding status whether received or not... 7. ICHP will decide whether you need to redo your license validation just by looking at the status hope this one helps...
  13. i hate this.. i was also a 2nd courser.. and i hate the fact that some nasty 2nd coursers would try their c.i.s or professors just by the mere fact that they are cum laudes... so what?... they may have been cum laudes in their previous courses but hey... this is nursing, and even if it will feel humiliating sometimes that a teacher 10 or 20 years our junior would give their lecture on us... let's face the fact that when it comes to nursing, the professors are well versed in the field than we 2nd coursers... we must by all means conform to their teachings... unless its necessary to ask a teacher for clarifications, trying to test their knowledge in nursing would be unethical... i thought they are cum laudes? they should be more mature than that...are they trying to be grade-conscious again?haha... if they think they are that smart, why enroll themselves in a nursing school when they knew that they will be taught by a younger person? better get an online degree...
  14. in my case i took the exam last dec, 2006... got the results 2nd week january 2007... applied for a license feb 2007 and finally got it april 2007... 4 months from the date of exam to license receipt...
  15. GOD!! haven't they realized that as we grow old, our wisdom widens??
  16. ...then lets all get out of this messed country :nclr: we are always overworked:pumpiron: and overstressed:flmngmd:... yet underpaid
  17. if its the first time you will be submitting documents to CGFNS, then I think you need to renew your license... because its the PRC that will send info about your license to the CGFNS, so it needs to be current
  18. well... there must be a certification at least... just to prove that you have been working there... can't you sometimes feel that its already a form of exploitation?? they're having our service for free... they must have least provide us with certificates...:w00t:
  19. ..no limit.... for as long as you can carry on... after all, passing NLE is the ONLY way out before we could ever start working as a nurse...
  20. there is definitely a way out for us nurses who want to get out of this country... right now, most nurses who wants to go abroad are trying every means to be employed outside of the country... be it US, UK, Australia, NZ, Middle East.. etc... they are desperate just to go out of this country to make a decent living... there are nurses who are nationalistic wherein they would not go out for reasons that they want to serve our country... its passe... for inasmuch as we wanted to serve our country... we also want to serve our family!!... honestly speaking, the salary of a nurse here in the philippines is ONLY good for someone who is DEPENDENT and SINGLE!!... The typical average salary of 7500 pesos a month wouldn't even suffice you to rent your own apartment (at least here in Manila)... that sounds disappointing considering that you've earned your way up of being a registered nurse and yet it wouldnt get you anywhere in terms of seeking independent living... moreover would it be enough if you have a spouse and 1 child at the least??? We as nurses work hard in caring for our patients where our licence are always at stake whenever something happens to them... that's why we can't also blame the attitudes of some nurses here (who tend to exert least effort with regard to patient care) are different from those abroad... its not all about the money, but hey, remember that we need money in order to carry on with our daily living... government here...SUCKS!! They ought to be left alone in this country...
  21. is there really no way to know before the 4-week duration from the day you have taken the test??... im near to resorting to go to a doctor to have a dose of anti-anxiety :scrm:....
  22. try to work on the suffixes or key words in the medications... for example... endings in: -one : is usually a cortisol/corticosteroid, the action of which is mainly antiinflamatory -cep- : those containing 'cep' (rocephin, cephalexin, etc) are cephalosporins which are antibiotics... -pril : this are ace inhibitors which are antihypertensives... etc, etc.... most drugs that are of great significance in any nursing exams (based on my experience so far.. ) focus on disorders that are prevalent in our society (cardiac probs, htn, dm, copd, immunocompromised pts...) take time in understanding drugs that relate to those diseases...
  23. hope your situation gets better...
  24. ... yes we can't be sure that it's legal but the fact that we could get from carrying such devices in a compromising situation would be undeniably true... its just like impartially placing the judge (nursing supervisor in this case) on the same situation wherein he/she was able to here the entire conversation behind closed doors... it could be helpful for them to discern right away who is telling the truth because some persons may become so manipulative that they would turn the tide against us causing us more troubles...
  25. every profession will go smoothly if your interest lies in that field... period... i have been a computer analyst and programmer for 7 years... it took me that long just to realize that i really don't belong to that area so i took my second course in nursing and voila! here i am... my best friend for 17 long years is still on the field of computer programming and is still enjoying the work there... its not merely a question of whether you're good at it or not... skills can be learned and in my case i learned everything i need to know as a computer analyst.. money is not an issue either.. working in the computer industry can be very rewarding in terms of salary (even here in the phils)... but how come i finally decided to cross the line and entered nursing?? others may call its a calling... well whatever it is i would just have 1 final advise... just follow whatever your heart desires... coz every nature of work demands its workers to have a sense of passion and not merely knowledge in the field...
