  1. Cool! Good luck!
  2. CHLA includes the salary in their application packets... they are very upfront with that. You can PM me if you would like, it may take me a little while to get back to you though. :)
  3. I did hear a rumor that they would only be accepting BSN's from now on, but I cannot be 100% sure. I got in with just my ADN for the March 2010 cohort. I would try anyway. Good luck!
  4. All is going well, so far. The Versant program at CHLA is awesome. The next cohort starts in September. There are 3 interviews, one with HR, one with the floor manager, then one with the floor nurses (I think), I actually only had 2 interviews, but most had 3. They are the interviews where they will give you a scenario and ask how you would handle it, or ask how you handled a specific situation, such as an angry customer/patient. Hope this helps...good luck!
  5. I am looking into UT Arlington as well. Great price for an RN-BSN, am afraid there is a catch though. Do you know if their degrees are accepted to most universities after graduation for MSN degrees?
  6. Not for March cohort. They will start accepting applications again in April 2010 for the September cohort.:hpygrp:
  7. Hi everyone! Was wondering if anyone was accepted into the March 2010 CHLA new grad residency. If so, it would be nice to hear from you and to get to know you before the residency starts. I was hired on Dec. 22, 2009 to work on 6 West. I am really excited about starting my new career. Look forward to hearing from you. :redbeathe:lol2:
  8. The PVT really works! I took the NCLEX on Sat. Jan 16 did the PVT trick less than an hour after my test and got the "good pop-up" and found my name on the BON website on the 20th! I am walking on air right now!! Good luck to all!! Oh, and a friend of mine took her test on Jan 14th, got the good pop-up less than 2 hours later and found her name as well on the BON website on the 20th. So it worked for both of us!!
  9. Can't wait to hear you got the "good pop-up" Jmoney!! GOOD LUCK TODAY!!
  10. I am very happy! Can't wait to have the PVT trick confirmed, just for peace of mind. I took the test at 1pm, got there at 12:30 and they took me in right away, which was great, I was so ready to get it over with. I used the NCSBN questions for 3 weeks ($50) kaplan questions (was scoring 58%-69% on the tests) and used Delegation, Prioritization by La Charity (good book), and the HURST book and CD. I would rotate studying amongst all of these, which gave me a well rounded bank of knowledge. At the last minute, in the car, I looked over my pharmacology classes and side effects. I guess it worked. I didn't really have a "plan" for say. I figured the more questions I did, the more I learned. I probably did about 3,000 questions over all in the last month. I wish all of you who haven't taken the NCLEX yet all the luck in the world. You CAN do it! Being positive is most important, as well as prayers!! YOU WILL PASS!
  11. Dear Rn-2-b-n-09, I took the NCLEX-RN this afternoon, tried the PVT when I got home and got the "good pop-up" (Less than an hour after taking the test) So to answer your question. YES the PVT does work on Saturdays! Good Luck!:yelclap:
  12. well, i took the nclex-rn today finished in 1 hour, 75 questions. i knew about 1/3 of the questions, 1/3 i didn't know at all and 1/3 i was kind of unsure of. i had 2 math questions, 6-8 sata, quite a few delegation/priority questions, a lot of pharm too. i had the blue screen at the end. i tried the pvt when i got home and got the "good pop-up", i tried the pvt again a few hours later with no change, still the "good pop-up". i am so relieved that studying is over for now, at least until i actually see my name on the bon website (i am in california, no quick results). i pray the pvt is as acurate as everyone on the site have proclaimed it to be! prayers definitely helped me tremenously today. i wish all of you waiting to take the nclex all the best and that we can all move forward in our new careers as rn's!! thank you too for this site and everyone who posts, they have helped me tremendously in my nursing journey!! :redpinkhe:redpinkhe
  13. Good Luck JMoney! I am taking NCLEX on the 16th! I am so nervous. I have been incorporating reward time after my study time as a way to keep from getting burned out from studying! Last night I went and saw Riverdance. I also go to the movies, get my nails done, etc... Try doing something you like after you study. Let us know how you do and I will do the same!! Just keep thinking positive! WE WILL PASS!!!
  14. Congrats!! I hope I can post that I passed soon too! Taking NCLEX on Jan. 16th. You are an inspiration to all of us!
  15. Taking the NCLEX on Jan 16th! I too took the ATI predictor and it said I had a 98% chance of passing. Let's hope it is right! I am doing the NCSBN 3 week review, Saunders, Hurst Review and NCLEX incredibly easy questions, I try to do 100 questions each day from one of these. I decided not to do a review course, as I feel I do better on my own than in a classroom. I hope it was a wise choice. I start my RN residency March 8th, so I need to have my RN before then. Good luck to all!!!
  16. I too am taking the NCLEX in January, the 16th to be exact! I wanted to take it earlier just to get it over with, but it was the only day available. I have been studying the Hurst Review Book/CD, doing 100 questions a day from Saunders, Hurst and NCLEX made easy. I hope this is enough to pass. The ATI predictor said I had a 98% chance of passing the NCLEX the first time, I pray that it carries at least some weight. Thank you everyone who participates on this board, it is so appreciated! All of those who are taking the test this month, please let us know how you did and let us know what you think helped you the most to prepare. Thank you!!

Well, after my 2nd interview with the floor manager, I got a call 3 hours later with a job offer at CHLA. I am so excited! The new grad residency starts in March 2010.
  18. I just graduated from nursing school on Dec. 12th at the age of 47! I got a job 10 days later and I think my age helped me get the job. They were very happy with my previous work history and life experience. Another plus we have is when we start working, the patients think we have been nurses for a long time!! Hee hee! Go for it!!:yelclap::yelclap::yelclap:
  19. I just graduated Dec 12, 2009 from MSMC ADN program. I have to say, 10 days after graduating I was offered a job at Children's Hospital of L.A. (today!) and I believe it had a lot to do with having the degree from MSMC. It also helped having the clinical sites at major hospitals such as UCLA, CHLA, USC, etc... I also believe that what helped me was the reference letter from my clinical instructor from CHLA on CHLA letterhead that actually got me the interview in the first place. Price is definitely an issue though! So think it through well. Good luck to you!!!

Hi Peachsnapple, I have an interview on Monday (prescreening). When is your phone interview? Did you have the prescreening interview already? If so, can you give me some tips on what the interview was like and what they asked you? Thanks!!! I am so anxious.
  22. I too have had carpal tunnel due to typing, was retrained to be a dialysis technician (talk about a physical job!) But that is when I fell in love with medicine, I am now in nursing school, I graduate in Dec 09. I had surgery in 2004 in both hands, and can now use them both with full dexterity. My right hand was pretty bad so I have some permanent nerve damage (at the base of my thumb) but it doesn't interfere with anything I do. I still cannot write for long periods of time, but I would do the surgery again in a minute, it has helped tremendously! Just make sure you do your research on your surgeon, make sure you pick a HAND surgeon that has done MANY CT releases. I had to have 3 surgeries on my right hand, because 2 doctors didn't know what they were doing, I finally found the one that did my 3rd and last surgery on my right hand, I then trusted him enough to do my left hand. I have been great ever since! Good luck and don't give up!!
  23. Thanks for your insight. I too was a parent of an NICU baby and I am now in nursing school with an interest in working in NICU. I appreciate your advice about keeping good boundaries...I will keep that in mind if I end up there. thanks!
  24. Hi TheresaB, I have a question for you in regards to being a travel nurse. I am currently in my last year of nursing school, my husband retires in 3 years, and I was thinking about traveling after some time in the hospital. Do you find that nurses treat you badly or give you the "bad" patients? What do you love and what do you dislike the most about the job? Thanks in advance for some insight....
