Survey: Should nurses from other countries be recruited to aid in the nursing shortag
Let's face it how many post have we all read about American nurses having difficulty finding employment in hospitals and otherwise. We do not have a nursing shortage in the US but we do have many American nurses who are unemployed. Please stop giving our jobs to non-Americans. It's killing our economy.

Should I quit nursing?
I recently experienced what you have experienced. I was dismissed after 30 days of employment with a new employer, however it was not due to my performance and fortunately I was able to complete one year of employment with a previous employer. I too am finding it difficult to obtain employment with one year's of experience. But giving up is not an option for me. I suggest you move on. If you were passionate enough to complete nursing school, then put your best suit on, make sure your resume and cover letter are impecably written with no typos and apply for the next position. In the position I lost I was too ambitious and I think it threatened some of the current staff and I noticed people resenting me for absolutly no reason at all. The manager began talking down to me and making me feel really uncomfortable. Her reason for dismissing me was, she stated I was scheduled to work a shift that I had no knowledge of. When someone lets you go for something really bizzarre it's because they don't want you there, this was not a loss for me this is a loss for that facility, because I am a passionate and competent nurse. I am moving on to what GOD has in his plan for me. NEXT!

texting at work
Texting, talking on cell phones/landlines, taking extended breaks, updating facebook, playing those non-sense farm-games while working is just outrageous. I don't care what unit your working on meg-surg, ICU, NICU, or ER. We are professionals and it is our duty to dedicate every moment of our shift to our patients care. Unless you are on a scheduled lunch or break we should be caring for our patients. These are all horrible infractions, but the worst infraction that I have seen is nurses and CNA's/PCA's sleeping on the the freakin job and when I mentioned this to my director she sided with the employees who had been on the job longer and completely dismissed my complaint. I wished many of the nurses that have time for the games find somewhere else other than the work place in which to enjoy them. I aspire to become an ICU nurse in the near future so why don't some of you texting ICU nurses leave and make room for those who really understand what the meaning of patient care is all about.

Getting into ICU?
sunnycalifRN,Point well taken, however I believe 2010 will bring about many changes in the nursing Job market. When the economy begins to take a turn and positions open in the area of ICU. People like me need to ensure that our skill base is up to parr.
-
Getting into ICU?
I am also a nurse interested in becoming an ICU nurse, after working one year on a med-surg unit I am certainly ready to transition into a ICU position. I recently applied for a position and was told that they are strictly hiring experienced ICU personnel only. I am really considering giving up my current position and focusing on taking classes for additional certifications that will hopefully give me an edge when applying for future ICU positions. What do think? Should one walk away from his/her current position in med-surg ( hated position) to prepare for the position of his/her dreams in ICU?

Help!!
I just want to thank everyone who responded to my thread with words of encouragement. Just to let everyone know I did take NClex this am and the computer shut off between 75-80 questions. I'm not totally sure where it stopped b/c I didn't look at the question# after 63. However, I was out of there pretty quickly as compared to the 2times I had taken it before. So either I did really well or poorly. Anywho, i'd rather the computer determine competence or incompetence at q75-80 rather than 265. Because, sitting in that test center for hours and having to do 265q is soooooooo draining. When you fail, failing at 75 is the same as failing at 265 b/c ya still need to go back to the drawing baord and study. With all that being said I believe that the 3rd time is a CHARM. I pray and hope that this was my final attempt at NCLEX. I believe God will bless me with my RN license. Unfortunately, my results aren't going to be in for 2-3wk, b/c snails have taken over the California board of nursing offices. Pray for me prayer worries and thanks for your support allnurses.

Help!!
I am scheduled to take nclex for the 3rd time tomorrow and I need your help. ( I have been reviewing material for about 2mos) I studied and read most of Saunder's 4th ed. before taking the exam the 2nd time and i felt I did not need to re-read it for my 3rd attempt at Nclex. I basically reviewed some of the questions and re-read the rationals. However, I did read the area that I was below passing in.I also used the LaClarity prioritization and delegation, and NCSBN learning extension Q&A only. The only content I reviewed was through reading rationals. I did review some meds classes but not all. This morning I did about 50 questions from question trainer #7 ( Kaplan) and my score was only 62%. Should I reschedule my date. I am exhausted and my husband is growing weary and says he wants his wife back. What would you do take the exam or hold off? Heeeeeeeeeeeelp! I never feel ready for this test.

nclex trouble
Cosmo15 I am scheduled to re-take the Nclex for a 3rd time next week. Cosmo do you believe the exam has gotten harder each time you've taken it or is it pretty much the same. What study materials did you use? I keep hearing it's getting harder to pass. True or False.

it is taking me forever to finish the suzanne first plan
I'm working on Suzanne's 1st tip for the 2nd time and it takes a lot of time with out children. Take as much time as you need because you really want to understand the content.

Any 2nd or 3rd time test takers?
L405,Failing twice has been a difficult pill to swallow and I can't take another dose of failure.
-
Any 2nd or 3rd time test takers?
L405,I have been working on it for about 3wks. But I really read the full section and all rationals if I'm not getting at least 75%. I am also overlapping my studies. When I find a weak area I'll read that section in Saunder's and re-read the same weak area on the NCSBN web-site program. This process may take a bit longer but I have got to do everything possible to pass.It may take me another 3wks but I'll be ready.

Any 2nd or 3rd time test takers?
L405,How long did it take for you to finish tip#1 of Suzzane's plan? I'm currently working on it and hoping to finish it by the end of this month. I plan to re-take NClex by the end of September or early October depending on when I complete Suzzane's plan.I know I want this Nclex stuff over by November.

Any 2nd or 3rd time test takers?
rudybigdog1,Are you using Suzzane's plan? I am working on reviewing Saunder's and I'm pulling my hair out trying to get through it.For my 2nd try at Nclex I had completed Saunder's with the exception of the Med chapters (huge mistake). I don't think that we can exchange e-mail addresses in the forum. Explain to me how people communicate outside of the forum and how we can exchange e-mail addresses.I want to make sure we meet the rules and regs for allnurses.com.I need all the support I can get. Thanks

Any 2nd or 3rd time test takers?
With there being sooo many 2nd and 3rd time test takers it would awesome if there was some way that people in the various cities and states could connect and start study groups. I think it would be helpful in keeping many of us repeat test takers motivated. Are others interested or is it just me? I know when I took the exam the 1st time I had a study buddy and we kept each motivated and it was extremely helpful. She passed and I didn't. It helps to have someone working towards a common goal that understands your struggle.

Any 2nd or 3rd time test takers?
mell11I totally understand your point, but when I called CA BRN I was devastated to find out that my name and the fact that I had failed twice was sent to my program. I don't think I would care as much, but I waited almost one year and a half after graduation to take the exam the 1st time due family deaths. Therefore, I can't say that my failure is necessarily a true reflection of the program I attended. I personally would like to keep my failure private. It would be okay if the boards just sent info about pass and fail rates but not the names.

Any 2nd or 3rd time test takers?
Maybe I have been living in lala land or something, but I just found out that every time you fail Nclex the Boards will send your name and the fact that you failed to the Nursing program you graduated from.I have failed twice but I will not let it happen again. I don't like the fact that the board of nursing embarrasses us over and over again while taking our money. Isn't it enough pain that we have to deal with our own failure. This is tourture. I don't want all of my ex-instruction knowing that I did not pass Nclex. I really feel like I am the butt of the joke. The funny thing about it is I'm sure many of them at one time or another found themselves in our position. Yet they actually have the nerve to put us down.

Anyone suffering major NCLEX review burnout?
I feel everyone's pain, because I'm in the same boat. I had gone thru Saunder's once before and now I am repeating it because I did not pass. I thought I had done pretty much everything to pass this test. I am sooooo burned out that it is driving me to nutsville. I have been studying for this crazy NCLEX on and off for the past year and because I have studied sooo much I find myself jumping from one book to another hoping that it'll make the subject matter more interesting or something. I feel like I'm spinning my wheels and I'm finding it difficult to set daily goals and accomplish them. This testing process is putting me through hell.

failed nclex 4 times
Failing Nclex the 1st, 2nd, 3rd or 4th time is difficult. Most who fail feel at a complete loss.I am preparing to take the Nclex for a 3rd time and I am currently working on Suzzane's first tip. I had completed the 1st tip for my 2nd try at Nclex, however I did not complete Suzzane's full program. I will do everything that Suzzane recommends for my next exam. After taking the exam a few times it really makes you weary and just plain tired of the process. Everyday when I wake up, I walk a few miles to relax, and I start studying. Prayer also helps to keep me strong. We repeat test takers must digg deep to overcome the pain of failure and find a way to bring out our absolute best for the next Nclex. We can conquer Nclex it's just another test. This test does not take anything away from us. Let's try to keep it in it's proper prospective.

Took the NCLEX three times
Brwnsuga83,Thanks for the encouragement. I will have you in my prayers August 8, I know that you will succeed this time.I am planning to re-test the second or third week in September. Did you use Suzzane's plan this time to prepare?

Took the NCLEX three times
gradnurse2,Have you started reviewing Saunder's again? Do you feel like you need to review more content?Sometimes I feel like I'm spinning my wheels by going over and over content when there is no way I'll remember everything anyway.
-
Took the NCLEX three times
gradnurse2,I also used Saunder's, but I purchased the 4th Ed. and pretty much covered every chapter before taking the exam a 2nd time.I also purchased those crazy flash cards from some web-site, completed a great deal of questions from Kaplan, Saunder's and the NCSBN program. The first time I tested I did fewer questions. The second time I tested I did more question, but not has many as some people have done. I think I completed around 2500 questions. In retrospect that is alot of question, but some are doing 3,000 to 4,000 questions. I think I'll try to work more on delegation and prioritization questions for the third try.Suzzane's says each time you test you should review Saunder's again and that's what I'm doing now. This time I'll focus on meds, last time I skimmed over the med chapters( Big Mistake).

Took the NCLEX three times
I have taken the exam 2X and the frist time I was near passing in all areas and above passing in psychosocial Integrity,The second time I tested near passing in most areas and above passing in Safety and Infection control, below passing in health promotion and Maintenance (Stunned). Suzzane, is correct when she says you must study for your next exam as if you have not taken the exam. Because each time your getting a completely different test and the material you may have focused on for the previous exam may not appear on the next. I used Suzzane's first tip for my second exam, but I did not complete the full program. For my third try I will complete the full program. I have no more time for Nclex, I need to make some cash quick. This text is taking a toll on my physical and mental health. I graduated from nursing school with honors, but now I feel like a member of the dum-dum society.

Two weeks today, and waiting for 2nd tip of suzann's plan
Wow!I too will be using Suzzane's plan, it's a challenge getting through the Saunder's and then you have to wait another two weeks to get the additional tips. I have the time to complete the program but having to wait two weeks after completeing Saunder's is though.Hopefully she'll get around to sending the PM soon. Keep your chin up!
