I will be moving home to CA after 30 years in Ohio, so thought I might go with a Travel company first...do you think this is a good idea or is it favorable to simply aply to the facilities? Do they have relo packages? Anyone know, or know who to ask? Thank you ALL; this has be a tremendous, sharing site. I am learning all the time, and wil continue to do so.

HI, Thank you for that very useful post. Having been in Traveling on and off for 5 years, I see compensation packages declining. Do you happen to know what the going per diem rate for progressive care or tele is in the Sacramento, CA or Columbus, OH areas?

**Is it really THAT bad!!??**
:pumpiron:IS nursing really that bad? It will help you become of stronger character as you develop more compassion and caring than you ever thought you had inside. As my name indicates, after 32 years I am toast. DRGs, ICD9s, LOS, pressure from upper management when I advocate for one more day for a for pt who is simply NOT ready to go home. Curt emails from upper management demanding I justify the agency nurse expenses for that month. THEN...more petty emails demanding OT justification if staff work extra instead. Tried business sector...was second to CEO...all I made was money, and even in that arena I was chastised for encouraging patient advocacy in my case management and UR staff. DON'T ever get hurt and have the audacity to file a comp claim against your hospital...instant pariah...even if you have 4 herniated lumbar disks with fresh annular tears because they pulled your two male techs and a pt fell (prepare for a ***** fest on pt fall statistics). I LOVE my pts...ED, CCU, interventional cardiac, teaching pt and families...I am up past my eyeballs with the ignorant tyrannical heirarchy that pervades every hopsital I've worked at (Travel Nurse for last few years). I now want only to be a regular staff nurse, keep a low profile, and to give my pt, against all odds, the safest, most skilled and loving care that they deserve. Nursing is a noble combination of skill and compassion ...I never show the anger I feel at how our ability to give real care has eroded...LOL it would scare the pts. A lot more collaboration and a little more respect. I have been working behavioral health crisis stabilization for adolescents past few years...nice and quiet compared to Critical Care.:innerconf You will have , and cherish, your bright moments in your career. Be strong, hang in, and smile...Good Luck in your growth, welcome to our world, we need you.

Any information on Intelistaf?
I've worked for InteliStaf since 2001 in Columbus Ohio. I have been communicating with new MSN office, and they are very responsive and helpful. I am lucky that my former InteliStaf manager is still my manager. As my on-line name may indicate, after 32 years, most critical care and some traveling and insurance, I am burnt out so badly I have yet to take an assignment or complete paperwork. Interviewing tomorrow for a position far far far away from the tyrannical hierarchy of ignorant hospital administration, 14 hour days with no thanks, whining families, rude physicians, too many new grads on CCU/cath lab right out of school.....but I will work soon day shift in an ER through good ole MSN...they have ALWAYS made me feel valued and do respond to email or phone calls. cheers!!!

Recruiter getting tired of my questions
I agree with most of the above. Complete this assignment and RUN, don't walk, to another travel company. I don't know why you signed on to such a wretched package (contract), but you evidently did. Next time, at the outset, get ALL of your options explained, all of your questions asked...AMN sucks BTW...they change you to an assitnat as soon as you start your contracts, and they never stand behind their nurse...afraid of ruining their contracts with large lucrative hospital systems. Nures'sRX and Preferred Nurses are under the World Health umbrella as well (AMN's parent company). Hang in there; I travelled for awhile and had only one company treat me poorly (AMN)...you will learn an important lesson about signing before you know and agree to the terms. I am sorry for you...remember it will pass!

opinion re: care coordination RN
Hey Teego, I am called "Clinical Outreach Coordinator", and the nurses that work for/with me are of several roles: RN Coach telephonically, RN Coach on site at large corp to encourage and spearhead positive health-oriented education and tools for the employees, Disease Management RN, both medical and behavioral health. THese work on the phone and at the home with otherwise non-compliant or disadvantaged clients to help the patient practice good habits, comply with meds, they go to physician with patient, give lots of phone education and education in person after being in the home (and seeing inside the fridge). All my staff have criteria set forth similar to an algorithim, have on-line criterria by M&R and INterQual for reference help, and help each other. Vary rewarding to be a RN Care Coach. Good Luck, enjoy!
