Favorite clinical instructor....and why?
I see a common thread here....I am in my first semester so I just have had my one clinical instructor and yes she is the one nobody wants and is known to be loud, harsh, and strict. But I love her!!! I have learned so much and learned to do it the right way every time. She also has taught us so much about professionalism which I know will benefit me in the long run. I guess this just shows there are goods/bads to every instructor!

opinions of young people as nurses
It's funny b/c I was just wanting to post about this. I'm 17 (18 in 2 months) and in my sophmore year in college. I will be 18 when I start clinicals and an RN at 20. I work as a medical assistant in a dermatology office and overall the pts. treat me kindly regardless of my age but the staff is worse than the pts. They constantly treat me as if I can't teach them anything even if they are newer than me just b/c i'm young. But ya know... this too shall pass soon enough is what I keep reminding myself. I try to treat all pts, staff, family, etc. with professionalism, maturity, and above all kindness and doing this I hope earns me some respect regardless of my age.

My skin keeps breaking out!!!!
I work at a dermatologist office and we write scripts all the time for Brevoxyl 4% wash and differin gel but we usually also will give an oral antibiotic like doxycycline to supplement. You may want to ask your dermatologist about that. Also, I would tell him that the Differin is too drying or whatever u don't like about it and there is lots he can substitute for it. Acne is so frustrating...I suffer from it too.

How old do I have to be?
Hi, I'm 17 and a pre-nursing student at a local community college. I have considered getting my CNA license and I know you can get it at 16 but the hospitals around here won't hire you until you are 18 so you would have to work in a place like a long-term care facility or rehab home or something like that. Best wishes !

But I just sat down and really memorized all the vol. and capacities and then tried my best to understand the processes. What book are u using ? Sorry I can't be more help.

I finally shed of the evil endocrine and reproductive systems. We had our lab practical tonight on those 2 sys. and I got a 100 plus 9 bonus pts. !! I was so happy b/c I wasn't happy with my last lecture grade. My teachers lecture tests are VERY difficult but tonights practical wasn't so bad. Congrats on all the good grades and it's on to the respiratory sys. for me.

The Spring '05 Anatomy & Physiology Club: A&P 2
Studytobeanurse, I'm right there with you on those evil "out of nowhere" questions. We had our first lec. exam last week on endocrine and reproductive. IT WAS SO HARD !!! The teacher first off gave us not even a clue about what was going to be covered on the test and then asked all kind of questions on the test that she didn't even explain in class. I made a low B which is a very low grade for me but I guess I can't complain that much b/c that test was really hard !! Now on to blood and respiratory this week.

Argggh !!! I'm swamped with A&P !! We just had our reproductive sys. lab last night and tomorrow night we have our first lecture exam on the whole endocrine and reproductive systems !! Those hormones are SO hard to remember everything about them !! Anyone else struggling with that ?
-
The Spring '05 Anatomy & Physiology Club: A&P 2
We just had our lab on the endocrine system tonight...it doesn't sound like too much to learn for the practical for that sys. anyway. We are doing the reproductive sys. in lecture and will have our first lecture test next week. Best wishes everyone !

ques. about the NLN exam
Has anyone here recently taken the NLN exam ? I am planning to take it this summer and have no idea what to expect. How does it compare to the ACT for those of you who took that ? Someone told me it had a lot of chemistry on it. Does it ? Thanks so much for any help.

So I guess pretty much everyone should be into their AP 2 classes by now. We had our first lab tonight and we just got introduced to it. Our first lecture test is over the whole endocrine and whole reproductive systems !! That seems like a whole lot to me. What is everyone elses like ?

I started A&P 2 tonight. We just reviewed the syllabus. My teacher seems really nice though. We have 5 lecture tests and 3 lab tests. Only thing is, almost everybody in the class knows somebody else in the class and I know nobody so lab should be interesting ! We'll see. I also am taking Micro, Nutrition, and Music App. Full load but I can do it ! Or at least that is what I keep telling myself. Best wishes to all.

Schizophrenia
- very rude fellow student
Thanks so much for the encouragement. A lot of ppl this semester especially at my college are giving me a really hard time about going for my ADN even though it is a comm. college. Most of them are transferring to the university. But I just politely tell them that just b/c I'm not getting BSN right away doesn't mean I never will or that I will be any less of a nurse. I plan on getting my BSN, just not right now. But I feel like bragging that I will be a nurse before them and getting all the perks that come with it but I know that won't go over well so I don't. Thanks again for the encouragement.- very rude fellow student
I am currently in my 2nd semester of prereqs at a comm. college for their ADN program. I am taking A&P I right now and this girl in my lab group and I were discussing ADN vs. BSN and I mentioned that I was planning on staying at the comm. college and going thru with their ADN program. She said in a very condescending tone that well she was going for her BSN and that wasn't a hard decision at all for her considering ASN salary av. is about $30,000 a year and BSN is about $100,000 a year !!!! I just kind of glared at her and didn't really say anything b/c I was in disbelief that she actually was that misled. I mean come on, she can't actually believe that can she ?? It wouldn't have aggrevated me so much if I thought that she was just ignorant about it but she is the "know-it-all" (or thinks she is) about everything nursing b/c she already works with nurses in a clinic. So anyway, just had to vent. Sorry this is so long. I'll just keep plugging away for my humble associate's degree b/c that is the path I've chosen.- Ouch...Ouch...and double Ouch!!!
I just got my second Hep B shot and fortunately for me my insurance picked up the tab for me. But man if they didn't, I feel for ya there. Amazingly enough, I went in with a terrible fear of the shot and of needles and it actually didn't hurt that bad. The TB test hurt worse. Congrats on getting things under way to start nursing school. I'm in the same boat.- New CVICU RN.. First PT death... OUCH, this hurts!
What a heartbreaking story ! I feel for you and only hope that when I am a nurse and in that situation, I can be as caring as it sounds like you were. Thanks for sharing.- Why are you REALLY going into nursing? Honest answers please.
I probably am just repeating what everyone else on here has said but I want to become a nurse because when people are sick, they are in some of the most miserable, vulnerable, and frustrating times in their life and I want to be there to help them through this time. Granted, I know it will be hard, long hours, hard working conditions, not appreciated and respected, and many times I will have to do things I don't particularly enjoy, but I hope to have the ability to overlook that and put myself in the patient's position and know that I would be glad to have someone to comfort and truly care for me. So despite all of my friends and family trying to talk me out of it I am going to apply for nursing school a year from this fall (prereqs take soooo long).- registering and scheduling woes
Thanks for the replies. Today things actually got worked out for now, I think. I checked online and I got signed up for both of the classes I needed. I got the very last seat in one of the classes !! I am sorry you all are also having trouble. I hope it works out well for you. And lets hope we don't have to go through this in the fall !! - very rude fellow student
