  1. I am nearing 40 and have only been a nurse for 4 years. I have gained at least 20 pounds since the end of school (2006) till now. My adrenal glands were burned out and I already have a thyroid problem. I only drink water or green tea (no milk, no sugar). I work 8 hour days/nights. I find it hard to know what to do when I work nights when to eat and what. It has to be balanced with not much for carbs. I usually bring something with protein to eat at night with a salad. It's the question, do I eat before I go to bed at 9 a.m.??? What do I eat then. I do exercise and keep active but these extra 20 pounds got'a come off. I'm sure it has to do with the night shift. We don't order junk food on nights, don't go to a vending machine, have no cafetera access during the night and we rarely if ever bring potluck foods to work. On occasion patient's families have given us chocolates etc. but not that often. So the question is how to eat during a night shift?? Thanks
  2. Any tips on eating a gluten/lactose free meal/snack during night shift?? I work 8 hour nights and I'm not sure if I should eat bfast when I get home at 7:30 a.m.?? I've gained weight from working night shifts so I'm not sure what to do now? Any suggestions?
  3. Wow, great reply to the questions. I've been searching forever for anyone to answer my questions so you answered these great. Thanks for sharing what you experienced!!! Much appreciated!
  4. Did you write the Unite Arabs board exam?? If so, was it hard?? What is it like?? Did you fly to Dubai to write it?? Can you tell me about this exam?? Thanks a lot
  5. I never get any responses to my questions about working in Dubai so good luck getting your answers. I hope someone replies to your question!
  6. What type of test do we have to write?? is it hard?? is it like the NCLEX?? Do they fly you out to write it?? How different is nursing in Dubai then say other countries? meaning when you say it's tough what do you mean?? Thanks for your response!
  7. I can't seem to find the threads regarding working in Duabai/UAE?? Can you direct me?? thanks a lot
  8. I'm a Canadian nurse living in Manitoba (province of only 1 million people). I have visited Vancouver and found it very crowd, busy and not friendly. To boot it's expensive to live. I have friends that live there and say rent is quite high. I think your high salary will go towards a lot of rent unless you have shared accommodations. It's more mild than Manitoba, that's for sure but I have decided I'll take the cold - whatever degree winters over a winter of grey, dreary, rain. Our winters have lots of sunshine compared to BC. I would look into how much apartments are, how close you would live to your place of work, do a quick calculator on your income and living accommodations and see if you will break even. As well don't let all that discourage you. It's a personal preference to live there. Lots of my Manitoba friends live there and love it even if it's expensive. More to do there year round than in Manitoba. Hope this helps a little. Good luck Hieb:nurse:
  9. Hi all! I'm looking to get some information from anyone that has had experience as a nurse in United Arabs. I hear you have to write a test to get the job, is this true?? If so, what kind of test?? Do they fly you out for an interview??? Are accomodations provided?? What is the "average" salary for a nurse in UAE?? Patient to nurse ratio? contract lengths?Any information would be great! thanks Hieb
  10. Hey there, No I haven't received any info. If I do I can forward it on. I had 1 girl email me and say she could pass on some info b/c she use to be a recruiter out there. I'm waiting for her response. Will pass some info on when I get it though!!!
  11. Hi there, Thanks for giving me a heads up as to what you have experienced in UAE. I really want to get there but got'a figure out how/where to start the paper work. Thanks for the hospital names b/c I'll totally look into those. I'm kind'a going blindly as to what is out there so any suggestions from people who have lived/worked there is great! Thanks again
  12. Really?? That's good to know b/c I was told by a Canadian recruiter that after 40, women cannot get work visas in UAE. She didn't state why but just said that was the "rule" out. I figured that I had to hurry up and get my BN before I try to apply which only gives me about 3 1/2 years to complete it BUT this gives me more time.................. Thanks for your response. Any other tips about working out there??
  13. Hi, I'm wondering if anyone knows anything about nursing in UAE?? I'm in my mid-30's and hear that after 40 women cannot "get into UAE" to work. Is this true? Anyone who has any tips about working in UAE would be great. I'm thinking of going but not even sure how to start the process. I'm a Canadian RN. Thanks
  14. What is NCSBN?? I need to re-write this exam and need all the help I can get so I'm just wondering what book this is? Thanks
  15. Thank you for your response! You've given me lots of info which I obviously had NO clue about prior to this posting. Thanks again!
  16. I'm going to try to get a nursing job in the usa once I pass the Nclex but have NO CLUE how to start the paperwork process (I'm CDN) etc. What is retrogression. Any tips will help - Thanks
  17. Congrats on passing! That's awesome! Thank you for your words of encouragement. This site is so awesome for stuff like that. So I've heard lots that used Suzanne's plan and I think I will get on board with that too and do it! Sounds like tonnes of people have found it useful and passed so I'm going to give it a try! I too believe that God does certain things in our lives that we will never know. I'm hoping he'll pass me when I re-write this exam again! Again thanks and congrats on your success!!!!:)
  18. Is the Hurst review through this site or is it a book??
  19. I'm a Canadian nurse with a RN diploma and am interested in working in the United Arabs Emirate. Would they too require a 4 year degree vis diploma? I also heard women over 40 can't apply to work there (I'm mid-30's). Is this true?
  20. what is suzannes plan?? i'm new to this site - sorry i don't know what you mean?
  21. Hi All! I'm VERY frustrating as I've written the NCLEX 2x's now :angryfire. I got to question 175 the first time and question 265 the 2nd time. I used Kaplan (found the CD crazy b/c you had to do the whole test before you could read the answers), NCLEX for dummies wasn't bad, used Davis's as well - found that helpful. Bought an pharmacology book as well. Looked through NCLEX made incredible easy but found it not so useful. I found the exam hard b/c there was ALWAYS 2 write answers and 2 totally wrong. I had a hard time figuring out which was the "right" one. If anyone has ANY advice I would appreciate it b/c I'm VERY discouraged right now. I will re-write it in March/April. Tips are welcomed here! :welcome: Thanks!
