Night Shift Eating Habits
I am nearing 40 and have only been a nurse for 4 years. I have gained at least 20 pounds since the end of school (2006) till now. My adrenal glands were burned out and I already have a thyroid problem. I only drink water or green tea (no milk, no sugar). I work 8 hour days/nights. I find it hard to know what to do when I work nights when to eat and what. It has to be balanced with not much for carbs. I usually bring something with protein to eat at night with a salad. It's the question, do I eat before I go to bed at 9 a.m.??? What do I eat then. I do exercise and keep active but these extra 20 pounds got'a come off. I'm sure it has to do with the night shift. We don't order junk food on nights, don't go to a vending machine, have no cafetera access during the night and we rarely if ever bring potluck foods to work. On occasion patient's families have given us chocolates etc. but not that often. So the question is how to eat during a night shift?? Thanks

Relocating to Canada
I'm a Canadian nurse living in Manitoba (province of only 1 million people). I have visited Vancouver and found it very crowd, busy and not friendly. To boot it's expensive to live. I have friends that live there and say rent is quite high. I think your high salary will go towards a lot of rent unless you have shared accommodations. It's more mild than Manitoba, that's for sure but I have decided I'll take the cold - whatever degree winters over a winter of grey, dreary, rain. Our winters have lots of sunshine compared to BC. I would look into how much apartments are, how close you would live to your place of work, do a quick calculator on your income and living accommodations and see if you will break even. As well don't let all that discourage you. It's a personal preference to live there. Lots of my Manitoba friends live there and love it even if it's expensive. More to do there year round than in Manitoba. Hope this helps a little. Good luck Hieb:nurse:

Do you know anything about nursing in United Arabs Emirate?
Really?? That's good to know b/c I was told by a Canadian recruiter that after 40, women cannot get work visas in UAE. She didn't state why but just said that was the "rule" out. I figured that I had to hurry up and get my BN before I try to apply which only gives me about 3 1/2 years to complete it BUT this gives me more time.................. Thanks for your response. Any other tips about working out there??

Hi, I'm wondering if anyone knows anything about nursing in UAE?? I'm in my mid-30's and hear that after 40 women cannot "get into UAE" to work. Is this true? Anyone who has any tips about working in UAE would be great. I'm thinking of going but not even sure how to start the process. I'm a Canadian RN. Thanks
