Trying to Transition: Clinic OB/Gyn to L&D
Thanks dariah & BuckRN. It wouldn't be a problem getting a job if I would be working at the hospital that my MD's deliver at but I'm moving 100 miles away. :-/ None of them have connections out there but I definitely use them as a reference. Thanks for the suggestions. I figured I would get those certifications done while I'm not working.

Trying to Transition: Clinic OB/Gyn to L&D
So I recently bought a new home near Houston which has always been mine & my husband's ultimate goal. In our current city I had to take a clinic position due to us having children and no family there. I needed something flexible because my husband's job requires him to travel and the clinic setting was family friendly. I accepted the clinic position as a new grad so I only have clinic experience. Now that we are moving to Houston I have a better support system as far as nearby family and I can't seem to make the transition from my clinic OB/Gyn position to the hospital to begin my dream job as a L&D nurse. I wouldn't even mind working post partum. Does anyone have any suggestions? Most of the major hospitals have turned me away stating that I will need to apply with the new grads for an internship. While I understand that logic I feel as though I can learn from being taught on the floor. I have the basic knowledge I just need to learn the skills. I've heard of many people doing this including a classmate that transitioned from psych to L&D. I now regret turning down the L&D position I interviewed for as a new grad. I had a plan for my children at that time but the plan fell through so I took the clinic position and turned them down. Any suggestions will help! Thanks in advance.

Nursing school: Bizarre practice in learning to bed bath..
We were required to bring soap and lotion and were asked to dress in a tank top and shorts. It was funny to us because it was so ODD! It was our 1st semester but after that you can imagine that we were close as a family. It wasn't that big of a deal to us. We were shocked but it wasn't a big enough concern to address it with our nursing faculty.

Just wanted to say good luck! :-)

Brookhaven Spring 09
Sorry, I haven't had them.
-
Brookhaven Spring 09
Yeah! I swear half the class must have been there when I was.

Brookhaven Spring 09
I had that same question. No, you won't need it for your application. You can call the Nursing Office but I didn't have that in my application nor did anyone else I know. :-) Good luck on getting in for the Fall!

I had fun meeting new people today. It was nice to meet you! :-) Some people were just familiar faces that I needed to put a name to. I doubt I'll remember all the names the first time though. -lol- Did you go to the book store after class? I went and it was a MAD HOUSE in there!

Brookhaven Spring 09
Kinkos must have misunderstood. That's just a drastic difference from all the other office stores. They charged me 16.37 for both documents that she sent us. I fugured it would even out with buying another cartridge.

Brookhaven Spring 09
No problem! I went to Office Depot & she gave me a 2 sided copy and a single paged copy. She only charged me for the double sided one. I wanted to sell the other one but I don't know if those worksheets that we will fill out will need to be turned in or what. If so then I will need the single paged one if that makes sense? Good luck with those 91 pages!

LOL! No sir! I told you they were huge. I'm going to office depot. If you submit online and want 25% off the finishing (3 hole punch, etc.) use this cupon code 50578723. My total caame to about $15. I'm doing double sided.

I took the class mid December I think. It was a lot of info but that's all that we have done. We haven't gotten an e-mail or anything else that we're supposed to get yet. I'm calling up there today to see what is going on. Yeah, that's a better way to put it. -lol- I've met a few. Just about all of them looked familiar from pre-req classes.

Yeah, I have a laptop already. I got one this past summer b/c I figured I would need one for Nursing School if I got in. I've heard that's another thing they will be telling us about at success camp. Apparently we can load our text books on there instead of dragging them to school everyday. I'm taking out a loan for this first semester & I've already been told to expect to come out of pocket b/c it will be late kicking in. Luckily I have a back-up plan. Do you already know some of the people in our class? I met 4 people so far. 2 at the drug testing site & two at the CPR class we had.

Brookhaven Spring 09
No, I believe it's the clinical dress code. :wink2: Have you bought anything besides the scrubs yet? Books or anything? I'm waiting for success camp. I saw the book pack price was a llittle over 600 dollars.

That's what I was thinking. I heard they spend a lot of time going over the dress code and handbooks. Who knows. :-) Ann said to be on the lookout for an e-mail that contains the handbooks as an attachment. They were THICK when she showed them to me. We have to print them out so I'm just going to go to Office Depot and have them do it or something. We have to have those Tuesday for Success Camp.

Brookhaven Spring 09
Hey everybody. :-) Are you ready for Tuesday? I feel like time is flying by the closer it gets.
