deliquent license
thanks for commenting so quickly. I had tried to call the board but the phone line is a 20 minute wait or more. xoxo happy holidays to you. I need to get started right away. I love nursing!!! don't want to lose my license.

deliquent license
I have allowed my nurses license to expire past the date on my card. Am I still allowed to practice. The board allows up to 4 years to pay before I have to start all over again as a new student and retaking the boards. My concern is I haven't worked since getting my license renewed in 2011 and now it expired in 2013. There are a few home health agency opportunities that are hiring but my license is deliquent for paying fees. Can I still work?

Struggling to stay a nurse
You can only do what you can and nothing more. Don't burnout from life. Congratulations on completing courses and board for LVN. It is a major accomplishment.

Home Health Salary???
In 2011 I as an LVN was earning 17 and hour and was considered low wages. As an RN I am sure you could expect much more than 20. Is this your 1st year or something? Some agencies do that with 1st year nurses. Sorry.
-
Why did you choose nursing?
I chose nursing when I was in high school after reading a little blue book that discussed what nurses do. It did not say anything about pay nor the many specialties just the basic stuff so I enjoy still just the basic floor staff nurse stuff. It was a booklet for RN but I was happy to get my LVN and so stay.
-
How long did you stay at your 1st job?
about 6 months and yes..
-
What's it like starting as the RN at a BRAND NEW facility the first month of opening?
probably what it's like starting any new position. Good luck.

Nurse to client ratios
working for an agency I work 1:1 nurse:client ration with opportunities to teach family. Can get boring(boring is good sometime though) but many opportunities to be involved in patient care and observation/monitoring documentation. at the skilled/sub-acute facilities I have worked with/for the ratio average was 1:30. It can get fast paced at times, especially around routine meds times and emergency situations in the hospital. Most nurses believe that a good load would be somewhere near 1:20 for nurses in sub acute/skilled. Gives time to make sure work is accomplished by patient, unlicensed personnel, nurse, allied professionals, and less carried over to next shift due to not having time, already overtime.

Can a LPN be a school nurse?
I am in California and most LVN's have to take the position of Health Assistant to the RN who usually has a masters degree.

What's your favorite shift to work?
I like to work evening shift (3-11:30 PM) when I work in skilled sub-acute. It's the winding down of the day and administrators are just leaving and when I leave most of the patients have drifted off to sleep. When working in Home Health I like the morning shift(7-3). I am able to get the day started relatively well when I am working on a patient I am familiar with, and the good morning greetings usually just "tickle" me and the patient.
-
What's the nicest thing a patient has done for you?
Working as an LVN in sub acute/ltc and a particular lady everytime, I mean 8/10 times I walked into the room during evening shift, she would start to call out in a loud voice, not caring who heard her, "Help me Lord, Help me Jesus, Please Lord, Lord, help me Lord!" I reassured her almost everytime 6/10 and myself that the Lord is with us and it appeared to relax her and myself. We are, as nurses, after all a healing profession and who better to call on then the Person, known to heal. A very precious gift..

plantar fasciitis.. anyone?
i was recently diagnosed with plantar fasciitis. the term doesn't help get rid of the pain but it is nice to know that there is such a condition for the awful grinding, burning, tearing pain at the base of my heel and the arch of my foot. i worked the night shift (not too much standing) but by the end of the shift i felt like i was walking on the bones of my heel!! excruciating. i don't know how i survived the last week. i terminated my employment due to this condition. is there any employment opportunities in nursing (i am an lvn) that don't require much standing? the doctor told me that i have to lose weight too, that it is exacerbating the condition. whew..i don't know how it's going to happen without me being able to walk, jog, or do some kinda standing routines.. i really feel stuck:o
