Long-term Antepartum Care in the Hospital
I am going to school for my ASN to BSN and I have to do a project for my capstone. My unit manager gave me the suggestion of doing something for our Antipartums. We currently have art therapy that sees them not sure how often. Just wondering what else I could start. Like speakers, activites etc.. Any suggestions would be helpful.

Need help when giving end of shift report
I work on a Ortho Medsurg Floor. Just wanting something to help me give a better end of shift report. We record our report on voice care. I am also still trying to make a check off list to help me out. The care plans are printed for us when we arrive to work and I go thru them and make notes on them and write the info I receive in report on them. Then during the shift any new info I write with colored pen. I just don't feel totaly organized? And of course I feel like I don't give enough info on report about the patient. I remember in school we had to make the instuctor visualize the pt. by what we wrote in our report. But I just don't feel like you have time in the real world. Just wondering ....Maybe I am being lazy, maybe I just think the new nurse can see for theirself when they do their assessment. I know to give import news in the report, like changes during the day or the night before problems. New nurse stresssssssssssss:argue: Tina

Were you prepared for your first nursing job?
WOW, I just stated my first job as a ASN, RN, August 11. This is my second career. I am 40yrs. old. I really wished that my instructors would have made us learn some of the medications that might be used when testing in each subject. I really didn't learn the medications from clinical, even though we HAD to put them in our Care Plan. I wasn't taught be classification. Still having trouble trying to figure out what they are. Like you have ALL the time in the world to look up meds at work."ya right" I wish and I try too. I really wished the test questions would have been more like the NCLEX, even though I passed it the first time. I felt thoses questions made you think. I wished we would have had a Math question on every test, at least one, even the simple ones make you think. I wished I could have acutally followed a RN for the day during clinical learning how to organize the day each clinical I think I would have learned more. On what to except when I got a real job. I thought just having "one" patient during the clinical day wasn't helpful, it is hard for the instructor to be with each student to be able to do different things. Lot of waiting, going on. The real world, you go to do a task and get called away to do something else and then try to remember what you was on your way to do just a minute ago. Because you know have 3 - 4 pts. to take care of. Not, sure what else to cover. Make it more like the real world and NCLEX at the same time. I know that is hard. As much hands on as possible for the students. Tina, new RN

Does it get easier????!!!
I have "one" more week of orientation and them I am on my own. I do not feel like I am ready, my preceptor says I will be fine, I don't believe it.. I have been getting 3 pts. and the norm is 3-4. I feel if it wasn't for my preceptor I wouldn't even be able to do three. Like I said she is always saying I am doing well, BUT I don't believe it or see it. I am being honest with myself.:angryfire My orientation they say is 12 wks. BUT I had lots of hospital orientation and training in that 3 wks too. So I have been on my floor for maybe 24 shifts, some 8 hrs some 12 hrs. I really like pt. care. I just don't know if I will be able to learn everything. I really feel like I didn't learn much in school.? Ya, I passed boards maybe by luck, not sure. I feel this is my calling. I am going to be 41 next month. I just don't feel that others will be able to help me when I need help. There is soooo much to know and learn. What Dr. to call, they all have more than one. Review new orders in a timely manner.. I don't need to be telling you guys you all know this!! Family don't understand, some of my school buddies aren't working yet or don't have a hospital job.. I don't want to vent to my preceiptor all the time, she will think I am a whinner. I want to cry because I feel I should be farther along. I am they one everyone went to at my other job/career. I am a multi-tasker, I feel it shouldn't be this hard?!! hELP New RN (not sure I can fill these shoes)
