  1. Has anyone ever registered with Thomas Edison State university for this topic?
  2. Are you currently in the program? I am trying to start ASAP but what's stopping me is not knowing which school to choose. I am leaning towards WGU

Thank you so much for the insight everyone ! Yea I think I would be really happy because I've also been a sub in a charter school for preschool- middle school. And as I mentioned before I did 1:1 with preschoolers. The psych unit I work in now is ages 18-50. I usually do very well with the teenagers when other nurses are wary! Overall I just miss the school environment. My preference would probably be elementary school kids.
  4. After writing my post yesterday I received the same email as you. My only issue is that I am still employed and really need to give my job a heads up so this is becoming a little complicated . Also we won't know where we're being placed until after the 6 weeks of orientation makes me nervous too.
  5. Hello everyone, I have decided to go to school for Informatics. I am leaning towards applying to WGU because the payment seems reasonable and the school sent me a package explaining everything. However, I have received calls from other schools such as Walden, Chamberlain, and Capella. I am also researching schools such as Excelsior and Grand Canyon. I decided to do this online because the only school closest to my location is NYU and the price to attend that school is through the roof. Please let me know which school has the best program and a respectable reputation.
  6. Hello everyone. I graduated nursing school in 2015. One of the specialties that stood out to me in high school was school nursing. It is one of the reasons I even went to nursing school. After I graduated in NYC the job market wasn't that promising. My first job was doing home visits with an agency and 1:1 private duty nurse with some preschoolers. Last year I was offered an adult inpatient psych position at a local hospital. Fast forward.. I am still at that job now a little over a year. My dilemma is that I was offered a position to work as a DOHMH School nurse ( my dream jobbb??). I feel as if I'm not built for the acute care setting and I usually go home feeling mentally and physically drained ( 12 hour shifts). My issue now is I'm not sure if I should follow my dream since I was a teen and take the school nurse position/ pay cut or continue to work in psych. I am also a little worried because I never had any medsurg experience? We have emergencies on the psych unit and patients who have comorbidities as well. I just wanted to know if you think a psych nurse would have what it takes to be a school nurse ?
  7. Hey guys I was in the April group interview too. I got offered a position. Got processed June 29 and did my physical July 7th. I got an email asking about the civil service exam too. I am getting really anxious though because we're in august. I've been calling them since July asking for a start date and I got vague answers such as " it's only July you will be called in sept." I'm getting pretty annoyed because I wanted to give my current job a heads up- 2 weeks notice before I leave. One of the recruiters estimated Sept 11th being the orientation start date? Any updates from anyone? That would be very helpful..
