  1. What a nightmare! I agree with everyone. Please contact CPS. You will continue to enable the behavior of the parents and your supervisor, if you continue to work in this environment. Most of all, your patient will continue to be in danger when a nurse is not present. Please do yourself and your patient a favor, by getting the proper authorities involved and find yourself a new job before something more severe occurs.
  2. I agree the tonsil stone smell is foul--a combination between dog doo and vomit. The look and smell of them makes you want to gag. In regards to the gagging during removal, the news the other day mentioned that the dentist should have equipment to remove the tonsilloliths and the $1000+ procedure is covered by insurance;).
  3. Do you still have your tonsils? Since your oral hygiene is in par, your halitosis could be caused from tonsilloliths or tonsil stones. Open your mouth and look at your tonsils. If there is a white substance sticking out of your tonsil that is a tonsil stone. Sometimes you can't see the stone, but you will know that there are there because every time your swallow it's like swallowing something ugly. The stones have an obnoxious smell can only be compared to necrotizing flesh. No amount of teeth or tongue brushing will get rid of the odor without actually getting rid of the tonsil stone. 4. Congratulations on passing the NCLEX and a lot of respectful admiration for taking the time to care for mother:heartbeat. In the time you were caring for your mother, you might not have realized what was going on in the nursing employment world. Due to the economic crisis, several hospitals have closed or cutting jobs. Subsequently, nurse recruiters finally got the upper hand, demanding 1+ years nursing experience, due to the influx of experienced nurses looking for jobs. Accordingly, there are several hiring freeze at hospitals for new graduate nurses or nurses period. Yes, you are correct--nursing homes, assisted living, psych, etc. now requires experience more than ever. In a lot of areas, even the Veterans Affairs (VA) hospitals are having a hiring freeze. Your age has nothing to do with being unemployed, it’s just the economic situation we are in. Good luck with the job hunt. If you are not picky with shifts, type of nursing, or availability to travel, your chances of finding employment will increase.

I read every word. Prayers and hugs to you. Having job is a blessing in this economy. Please learn from these experiences and have job lined up before you quit your job. I understand what you are going through.
  6. This economy is truly frustrating and devastating. I was also told that New Jersey VA is also on hiring freeze. Currently, I am frantically trying to find an additional job or risk having to relocate. However, I hear its only a soft freeze:smilecoffeecup:. Here is an allnurses thread on the reasons for the hiring freeze: VA Hiring
  7. it's all the red tape involved in trying to secure a position and nurses not having the financial freedom/security to wait months for these positions. here is an all nurses thread that will give you more insight: why is the va taking so long to hire you? i think you might be referring to the va travel nurse corps. here is some additional information: va's new "travel nurse program" hits the road [color=deepskyblue]in regards to the hiring freeze, i hear it is a soft freeze. anyone have any idea how long it's going to last?:vlin:
  8. In this economy, I am sure no one is immune. Here is an article related to VA hiring freeze We remain concerned that VA continues to face significant delays in receiving its budget. VA cannot be competitive in the market for health-care professionals if it does not have the funding necessary to do so or if it does not receive its appropriation in a timely manner. When managers do not have a budget for the coming year, they are unable to plan for new hires of critical staff. VA is forced to place hiring freezes on its medical centers nationwide. The hiring freezes have forced individual medical facilities to assign non-nursing duties to current nurses. This detracts from immediate bedside care and ultimately jeopardizes the health of the veteran. 9. Happy New Year!:clpty: Can someone please elaborate and educate me on the emphasis committee and the race its based on. Thanks. I appreciate any replies.
  10. Lucky that you have the options to turn down a job. In my neck of the woods, turning down jobs or quitting before you find another job is a big no no:no:. Sorry not that lucky here:crying2:. I am not sure what ratio they quoted you, but as a Federal employee your nursing license is protected by the Federal Government to an extent. Best of luck in finding what you are looking for.
  11. Thanks for the heads up. Your advice is appreciated.:heartbeat
  12. Congratulations! Curious, is this the conditional letter of employment or the actual appointment letter? If it's the appointment letter, was it mailed to you, were you given advanced notice that it would be in the mail, or were you called in to HR to retrieve it? Was this a temporary or permanent appointment? Thanks for any answers provided.
  13. First of all congratulations getting offered the position. Equip is an additional background check from the United States Government to decide whether you are suitable for the position offered. HR will have to enter you into the system and give you instructions in order for you to gain access. Best of luck.
  14. Thanks to Brian for making this post better by adding the video. I am glad the video was inspiring for everyone. Happy Kwanzaa:candle:, Happy Chanuka:hanukkahstar:, and Merry Christmas:starornament:! Wishing you joy for this season and immense blessings for the New Year 2009! :lvan:
  15. :hgu:Will keep you in prayer :hgu:
  16. If you like soul food, I would suggest cooking in the slow cooker instead of frying. For example, blanch one whole package lima beans and put that in the bottom of the crock pot with the 2-3 cups water that was used to do the blanching. Season 2 packages of oxtails how you like it and add on top of the lima beans. Cut 1-2 small onions and put as the last layer on top. Cover the crock pot and cook on low setting 8-10 hrs. Prior to serving scale off the fat. This is not the healthiest choice for meat, but the way it is cook is less fattening. Boil some rice or yams for a side. This will feed you and hubby for a week.*wine Another favorite meal that you cook once and last for a week is the pot roast. I prefer it in the slow cooker, but here is a recipe that makes it in the oven: Pot Roast With Fall Vegetables
  17. Brings back so many memories:lol_hitti:lghmky: NCLEX and job hunting always seemed to cure these ailments fast.
  18. Do you know what time of the year this usually occurs?
  19. Unless times have changed, I do not recall a lady partsl exam as part of a physical for nursing school admissions or when getting employed as a nurse. Hope that helps.

  21. Very frustrating, but I believe in the power of praying for things to happen according to His will. I love the quote from Galations 6:9---Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!:starornament:
  22. You are welcome. No, but on my wish list this year for Santa:clown:.
