  1. Hi everyone. Just found out I am going to be floated in another clinic this week, where they do a lot of procedures. I've floated in this area a few times before, but the last time I was there was more than a year ago. I was just informed that the joint commission surveyor is here in our hospital, and this particular area is one of the hotspots (they scrutinize this area more than others). I am extremely terrified and nervous of going there now as I haven't been there in a long time. I don't want to be blamed for anything and be fired. I feel that the gap is way too long from the last time i've floated there and i didn't receive any training or in service about the changes that happened in that area while I was away i.e., new iv pumps, new protocols, new procedures etc. Also, I am not familiar where everything is in that clinic (like supplies). I am also afraid that i may not be able to answer some jhaico questions as i don't normally work in that area. I am thinking of writing a letter to my manager and let her sign stating that I am not comfortable floating in that area. what do you think?. is this justified?
  2. I finally got my letter of employment. I am still deciding if I should go to the VA or not. I also got accepted into a new grad program in another hospital which starts in Feb.
  3. Hi are VA nurses unionized? If so, is the union helpful at all? thanks.
  4. yes. nursing school don't teach you everything.
  5. I got my degree at UCLA and trained at the center. nice place.
  6. My computer stopped at 85 questions and passed.
  7. Thanks. I was thinking of doing that too. But I don't want them to think that I'm this crazy person who can't even wait.
  8. I actually tried to call HR/Nurse Recruitment but I would always get Voicemail. So I left a message and until now they haven't called me back yet. I am also worried that with the holidays coming (thanksgiving, then christmas), things are going to be delayed for me even more since most people go on vacation, especially government employees. I'm definitely toast.
  9. 6 months? I dunno if I can wait that long. How do these people managed to recruit nurses? But I will definitely call their HR. I'm still gonna go for that 2 interviews though. Thanks.
  10. Hey everyone. I was interviewed and offered a job at the VA at the beginning of October. I did all the things that they asked for me: physical exam, Vetpro, fingerprint and E-qip, all done in October. Until now, I haven't heard anything from them and it's already November. Is it really this long to get a job over there. Should I be worried at all? Should I keep looking for other jobs (I actually have two interviews coming up, one at the police/corrections and the other at a private hospital). I'm just trying to have some back up plan, just in case the VA thing did not work out. Any suggestions?
  11. Hi, I am currently applying to several new grad program in Los Angeles, and some hospitals require letter of recommendation from teachers. My question is do they have to be securely sealed in an envelope. Also, Im also planning to just make copies of the original recommendation and turned those in. Do you recommend me doing that. thanks?
  12. thank you guys. I thought about it over the weekend and decided to just stick with the job. However, today one of my superiors said something to me that sounded like a blackmail. That was it. I resigned
  13. hey y'all, I started working in a LTC as an RN supervisor, and I really hated it. The paperwork alone that I have to do is making me cry plus the other things that I have to do as a supervisor. It seems like it is more difficult to work in an LTC than in a hospital. When I was a nursing student, I was taking care of 5-6 patients in a busy med surge floor (i trained in a public teaching hospital and they made us do EVERYTHING: vital signs, medication, treatmet orders etc), it was tough but I GET the job done. My question is do you think it's right to quit after only working for week. Do I have to put this in my resume? I feel guilty because they are spending A LOT of time training me for this position, But I don't think I am going to be happy. I talked to my parents (who by the way are very old fashioned people) about this and they keep telling me to just suck it up and hold on to the job until a find a job that i like. I am just so lost right now. any thoughts?
