Sticky situation help!
When I was a new nurse, this happened to me. A nurse was upset that I got the hall she wanted and changed the count, I was too naive to look at both the card and the book, it was my first job, and no one I had counted with did it that way. My mistake cost my job, and my confidence. Always monitor both sets.

leaving meds at bedside
"I've talked to my superiors about it, they just brush it off. To me it's a big deal!" You are absolutely correct inyour thinking. If you sign off on it, then it is your responsiblity and your license. In my short experience as a nurse, and in LTC, I have noticed that many nurses take shortcuts, perhaps from pressures, workloads, desire to take more breaks or just plain laziness. Don't fall into the trap of bad habits just because someone else does them. Will they pay your mortgage if you lose your job/license? Do you think the admin will fall on the sword for you? Not likely! Your professionalism will serve to be a role model. Best of luck!

how to be a great supervisor?
Hello! I would like to ask input from those experienced nurse supervisors who can offer insights in the area of CNA supervision. I am referring to getting the best from the staff, inspiring, etc. I am begining a new position next week, and I have heard from HR that there are some CNA's that need babysitting, which sounds like it's not unusual...Anyway, how can I bring out the best, without coming across as a b***h, or that I know-it-all because I have an RN. Please help!

waiting for full time
yes, you might consider exploring other locations to fill in your hours. You might find you are just as happy there. Also, it is human nature to want what one can't have, so getting a full-time offer elsewhere will give you amunition to approach your boss to say that you would never willing leave, but.....you need full time..... Have you gotten any feedback in the form of performance evaluations? Positive reviews can be used to remind them of your value.

Interventions for a Terrified, Disoriented Resident
I have a little experience with this type of population, and I agree with the assessments suggested so far. One other med to consider is haldol- limited basis. I also use distraction, simple tasks like folding wash cloths. Possibly she is bored? :heartbeat

Pulse Oximeter
I thank you for raising legal concerns. I am going to be doing home health for the first time, and my inital thought was my liability for not testing, supplying the equipment if nesscessary. I think I will opt for using whatever tools the agency supplies.

RNs caught lying
i completely agree that if you are not charting accurately- that is a lie and also against laws, policy and licensing rules. i am a new rn- wet behind the ears- literally one day into patient care orientation. the experienced nurse training me often made me stand there waiting for her to finish some gossip conversation with other nurses or residents. while the patient waited for pain meds or whatever. what can i do? here's the point--- is it possible that rn's are tired, and devote less energy to the patient and too much time socializing to get the work done properly? i am not trying to step on toes, but that was my one day experience, so could this be a trend? bettie

does anyone know what 7 variables of a symptom are?
Does anyone know what 7 variables of a symptom are? I have to do an EENT SOAP note, and I can't find this in my textbook....can anyone assist? I just graduated AASN, and decided it would be a good idea to go right into rn0bsn. WRONG! But I am not a quitter, and would really appreciate some help. My text is Jarvis, physical assesment. Thanks! Bettie

thanks kedamia05 i took my test on wednesday morning, and i am in ohio, so it's posted quickly. my friend called me this morning and woke me up to ask if i had looked on the ohio bon website----- i passed!!! it was posted in 24 hours. it was the same for me- total blackout afterwards. a lot of priorty--- which patient to see first, tb, and other infectious nursing, no math, no ob, some peds, and the rest med-surg, like different diseases. a lot of drug questions. it felt like i didn't study the right stuff, i must have done over 4000 saunders/kaplan in the last week, plus hesi and meds pub for school. last night i dreamed of writing a letter to linda silvestri! it sounds like you did fine, too! best to all :wink2:

NCLEX Takers Support Thread
Hi to all! I started last wednesday, a week post graduation delivery of my ATT- with high adrenaline for my scheduled exam 7 days later. Now, it's Sunday midnight and I am feeling a little less bold! I think I have literally taken over a thousand maybe two thousand? nclex prep questionas plus flashcards plus hesi review plus plus plus (Kaplan/Saunders-- which are the best) and it's all great... really a memory jogger. But last night I could not turn off my brain! Up till 4 am finally sleep thanks to benadryl and xanax! (not a habit for me, but geez!) I gotta sleep! My plan is to be a shut in for these six and a half days and relax the night prior. I will be fine, just the jitters. Thanks for letting me vent. Good Luck to all those coming up on their NCLEX_RN. I will post thoughts about the test for you, as I have benefited from others posts. And thanks for the random facts! :pumpiron:
