How important is amount of PAY to you?
I also see that you said "could have gotten" or what was in the market.. My opinion.. the market isn't strong.. take the job!

How important is amount of PAY to you?
Of course I need to make decent money. But I want to be happy and confident with my job. I took $2.00 less an hour, a 40 minute longer drive.. and having to pay my own benefits to get the job in the specialty I wanted. So.. I guess what I make is definitely not at the top of my list! Also.. I am just happy to have a job!

ADN: Is it worth it?
I am a new grad.. and I would say definitely yes. I don't know of any place that has said they wouldn't hire me because I have ADN and not BSN

Dilemma over Jobs, Advice needed
Okay... so thank goodness God worked it out for me! The Nursing home people were so unprofessional that they didn't get around to officially offering me the job until Friday. The peds position was offered on Thursday. I knew I had to take it.. it was like a sign! So.. for less money and a longer drive I am going to be a pediatric nurse!! I don't even care either.. I am just ecstatic that I get to start in my preferred specialty!

Advice on Goal
I think I might do that then. I am probably going to get my BSN at a local college here..and work my 2 years in pediatrics. I just accepted a job in peds.. so its all perfect now!

Advice on Goal
Hey everyone. I am a new graduate RN, but I know what I want to do from here on out. Probably because I am 30 years old and set in my ways already. I want to be a pediatric nurse practitioner. So I am here to ask this: What colleges are best for this degree? I will have to take all online classes. What path should I take? RN to MSN? or RN to BSN then BSN to MSN? I have looked into University of South Alabama and I see the RN to MSN and it looks like something I can tackle, but I don't see where the NP classes fit in? I would love it if someone gave me some advice or told me about their experience?

Was one year the magic number for you?
Glad to know that I am not the only one pondering that one!

I may be a job hopper,what shall I do....
Yikes! I understand your dilemma. I really don't know what to say. Personally I would stick with job #3 for a bit longer because of the shortage of jobs out there. But that is your own choice. On a resume, I don't think I would mention #1 and #2, but I would feel like I have to mention Job #3

Was one year the magic number for you?
One year SEEMS to be the magic number locally, but who knows right? I am a new grad, so I am hoping that this remains true. My plan is to get a job and stick it out for a solid year then if I am happy stay.. and if not then begin the hunt for a new job. Something bothersome I have found is this: Some applications ask if you have ever looked for a job while having a job. That makes me think that this is beginning to be looked down upon. Thats scary.. I mean what is wrong with looking for something better?

That was my thought too. I really want the pediatric position!

Dilemma over Jobs, Advice needed
That is what I was thinking too. I would hate to be that kind of person, but Job #1 has so many opportunities. See the hospital that Job #1 is at is building a new hospital in my town. So my DREAM would be to get a transfer to the local hospital in pediatrics.. See.. I am looking at long term.. My husband thinks more money less drive.. but I am thinking.. where will I be in 2 years? I would much rather be working for the same company that is building a hospital in my town.. And then all this makes me wonder.. what looks better on a job application? Hospital experience or nursing home?

Vent about students
Oh wow.. I would have been miffed too. I guess they think because they are in paramedic school that they are just there for the fun stuff. Where was the instructor? Wow.. I guess you would be the bad person if you decided that they couldn't help you with procedures, but it would serve them right.

Dilemma over Jobs, Advice needed
So on Friday morning I interviewed for my dream job. It isn't the absolute best option for me in the world, but it is in pediatrics and I have always wanted to work in pediatrics. It was my first interview with a nurse manager. Everything else has been with human resources and noone has had onpenings. The job is one long hour from my house and the pay is $20.50 an hour benefits will be about $400 a month out of my check. It is full time in a very large and advanced hospital with alot of opportunities. On Thursday night before the interview I was called by the DON from a nursing home 30 minutes from here. My friend was also called, she went in on Friday and took a job. $22 an hour benefits included. (I haven't seen all the paperwork, but thats what she says) He is looking to hire one more nurse from what she was told. I am set up to interview there on Tuesday morning. So.. here is the issue. Job #1 told me that they would be choosing someone to hire this coming week. I think that I will be offered Job #2 when I interview. I really, really want to wait out Job #1, but I am scared to death of passing up Job #2 because I need a job and beggars shouldn't be choosers. I feel like brass ring is being put in my face and I want so badly to grab it, but I am scared of making the wrong decision. So.. I thought about taking the offer on Tuesday if it is offered to me and backing out if Job #1 comes through, but I wouldn't want to be a bad person. Also.. is Job #1 worth taking? Or should I just hope for #2? Even though it isn't a job I really want? Please give me some feedback!!

Want to become a nurse but also a mommy
I went to nursing school with 3 kids ages ranging 5, 7, 9 when I started.. so it can be done. I don't know of any hospitals that provide daycare, at least in my area. I live in the southeast.

1st Week in Nursing School
I went to a small Community College.. student wise it was the most wonderful experience! We had good instructors too.. nothing more than the usual instructor complaints. I am so sorry that you are experiencing these things. I truly think that you will find a good friend or group of friends if you keep going with your friendly personality. The other thing I want to say is.. Don't give up your dream because of other people. I would really hate to see you let them get you down.

Looking for that first job
I also graduated in May.. I live in South MS.. I passed NCLEX and I have a license in MS and LA... I have applied everywhere within 75 miles and I haven't gotten a single call. I can honestly say that I am depressed. I am 3 months away from having to pay back student loans and I haven't even gotten a single call for an interview. I really wish all of you the best of luck in finding jobs!
