Any stethoscope recommendations???
Actually, the rainbow color is a specialty stethoscope (the cost is a few dollars more) and is fairly new on the market (based on my understanding). I wouldn't think there would be a lot of nurses with this color, unless they recently ordered one. I live in the Midwest, and Steeles.com is in Michigan, so I placed an order on Sunday, it was shipped on Monday, and I received it via UPS on Tuesday. Good luck with your decision.

Any stethoscope recommendations???
I recently purchased a Littmann Classic II SE stethoscope (rainbow version/carribean blue) and I can hear very well with it. It is also much lighter than the Adscope 601 that I used during clinicals. For my recent purchase, I used Steeles.com -- competitive pricing and exellent customer service.

Let's Talk Life Insurance
A life insurance agent (broker) that is licensed with many companies will usually present several type of products and companies, depending upon how you want to use your life insurance purchase. Some agents may be licensed with one company and may only present that company's products. I have found it to be more expensive to purchase a policy as I've gotten older. I've also considered the possibility that we never know when our health may change, and some conditions will increase premiums or could possibly make a person uninsurable. Good luck!

I Feel Like I Failed
Pearson Vue will post results about 48 hours after you take the test. I'm not sure how this works in a state that does not provide quick results. I took my test on a Friday morning, and paid $7.95 to get the results at 9:10 a.m. on Sunday morning. Good luck!

Nclex RN exam frustated
We were told during school that it is important to do 3,000 to 4,000 NCLEX questions and to be sure to understand the rationales.

NCLEX HELP!!!
You may want to take a look at Prioritization, Delegation, and Assignment by Linda Lacharity. This was a resource that I used in June when I took NCLEX and it was very helpful. Good luck!

NCLEX study guides
I passed by test last week (75 questions).:) The Pearson Vue trick works! Sources used: LaCharity's Prioritization/Delegation/Assignment book, Kaplan's NCLEX-RN book/CD (checked out from local library), and 3-week subscription to NCSBN web site. I had to rush through the NCSBN site to get through it before my test date, so more time to review the content/questions would have been good. Good luck!

I'm Hard to Fit--Looking for Cute Scrubs
Cherokee is a nice brand. Style 4200 has cargo pockets. I work with a store in my area that will order in a style and there is no charge if I don't like the fit. I ordered style 4200 today (petite) and it will be about 10 business days before my order will be ready. Keep in mind that special orders will take a little time, so plan accordingly to be sure you have them in time for your clinical. I also ordered my lab coat last year, as I only wanted 3/4 length sleeves and all the lab coats in the store had long sleeves. Look through the uniform magazines at the store for ideas.

School Stethoscope Suggestions?
another possibility to consider is the adscope (adc) 601 convertible cardiology stethoscope. i bought mine from an individual on e-bay (new) for over half-off. it has a chestpiece that converts from pediatric diaphragm to adult bell. good luck with your decision.

What is taught in A & P I?
My A&P I class covered bones in the skull and body; cat muscles; sheep and human eye; tissue identification (type of tissue; location, i.e., gallbladder; and purpose, i.e., secretion, filtration, etc.). Lots of memorization, but I've been told that it is the foundation for the nursing classes so it is important to have a good understanding of A&P. The physiology portion of the class was harder for me - it required an understanding of how things work, i.e., nervous system - sympathetic and parasympathetic. Good luck.

Summer / Fall Classes
I will be admitted to the nursing program this fall and would like your suggestions on the following: (1) Anatomy II this summer for six weeks, or, (2) Take the summer off and take my first clinical, Anatomy II, and Phamacology this fall. I don't know how much homework time is involved in the clinical... plus, how hard is it to take Anatomy and Pharmacology at the same time? Thanks for your input.

Anyone at University of Saint Francis??
I am taking only Anatomy I this spring. Once it is completed, I'll be ready to apply to the nursing program and then will anxiously await the decision to see if I get in the program for the fall. I may take Anatomy II this summer, depending upon the instructor.... What classes are you taking this semester? Thanks.

Anyone at University of Saint Francis??
I am working on my second degree at the University of St. Francis (completed a B.S. in Business several years ago). I had a few pre-reqs that I had to take and will apply to enter the ASN nursing program in the fall, 2009. It would be great if we were in the same nursing class! I know there is a watiing list but not sure how long the wait. I had a problem with Anatomy I lecture exams, but no problem on lab exams (I took the advice given by racing-mom4). I asked around and will have an instructor recommended by a number of students, so I'm looking forward to going back to school in a couple weeks to complete this class. I really like the University of St. Francis and can't wait to start clinicals in the fall! I'm sure you will enjoy the smaller class size and the caring instructors. I also have a wonderful advisor. Have you already taken the Anatomy classes? Racing-mom4, you mentioned two difficult instructors - since names cannot be listed here, how will we know who to avoid? Help! Happy New Year!

GPA at University of St. Francis
I need to complete A&P I first - one of my conditions of being admitted to the program. Once that class is done, I will have fulfilled all of the requirements and will be ready for clinicals. I decided against A&P during the summer. It will be one of the classes used to calculate my GPA. I know it can be a difficult class, and did not want to take a chance of getting a C (or worse). What can you share with me about A&P I - best way to study, etc.? I guess I'll keep my fingers crossed that I can get in the spring clinicals. I work full-time and I'm currently looking for a part-time position so I'll have that in place in case I get into the program in the spring. Plus, A&P is only offered during hours which conflict with my current job. I am so excited (and nervous) about the possibility of being admitted into the program.....I just want it to happen this spring! However, I need to do really well this semester to have a good GPA and then make it through A&P. Again, thanks for your input, and I'll check in with you later.

GPA at University of St. Francis
We were informed a week or two ago that there will be a waiting list for the fall clinicals, and so GPA will be the one of the main factors in determining who is accepted into the program. I don't know how many students are expected to be on the waiting list - I know there are about 48 spots. I will not be ready to go into the program this fall, but was just curious about GPA and if you had ever heard the range for the students going into the program. I know 2.7 is the minimum, but I would think acceptance into the prorgram requires something much higher. I'll stay in touch.

GPA at University of St. Francis
Racing-Mom4 - have you heard anything about the GPA for most of the students getting into the ASN program at the Universityof St. Francis? Beginning this fall, GPA will be a major factor in determining whether a student is admitted to clinicals, and I'm just wondering how difficult it is going to be. Thanks for your input.

University of St. Francis in Fort Wayne
Thanks, Racing-Mom4. I went to USF's nursing orientation in December and immediately knew that this was the nursing school for me. I am taking a few pre-reqs this semester and will take ANP either in the summer or in the fall. Then, I should be able to officially enter the nursing program in January, 09. If you have any tips for me, please feel free to share. I have started working on my "nursing package" with all the various immunizations, physicial, etc. Congratulations on your graduation! Did you start working at a hospital before your graduation? I'm just wondering when I can start looking for something in the medical field.

I don't know the difference in the "point system" for new vs. transfer students. I plan to attend part-time to complete a couple pre-req classes before being admitted to the nursing program on a full-time basis. Are you applying for pre-nursing or nursing? Anyways, I will start this spring and I'm very excited. I went to the orientation a couple weeks ago, registered for classes, talked with financial aid, etc. It was so organized -- so much different than some of the other schools I have looked at-- and it made me very comfortable with my decision to attend USF. Stay in touch and let me know how your process goes.

I did not have enough time to check out USF before the fall semester but would like to consider them for the upcoming semester. Does anyone know how their system is set up to gain entrance into the nursing program? Is it based on overall GPA or grades in certain classes? I am currently attending a school in which only 4 classes and the TEAS exam determines if entrance is granted -- and you must get all A's or there is no chance. Any feedback on USF would be appreciated. Thanks!
