Grad School Roll Call for Spring 11
1. The University of Texas at Arlington 2. MSN in Nursing Administration 3. Full time; put in a bid for two-day alternative to not lose my benefits 4. Part time (no full time admits for Spring 2011) 5. I chose this program because there is a dual degree program with UNT Health Science Center for an MPH. Together, the two degrees would be Health Care Management Policy. I have to apply after I get some hours in, but not before I finish 24 hours. I'm 23, and that makes me nervous!

Your Favorite one liner used with patients
As I check surgical sites and lift their gown: "So how much are you charging for a look these days?"

I want to be a FNP or GNP. So where in the hospital should I work?
Hello everyone: I graduate with my BSN in May. I've wanted to be a geriatric practitioner or a family nurse practitioner as long as I can remember (the latter more for the flexibility). My question is: what floor should I work on as a new nurse? I applied for a student nurse position (and got it) on a med-surg floor at a large state hospital. Now, my preceptors are telling me that ICU is where I should have went to because I would "get better skills." I thought with med-surg I'd at least be able to see everything? I don't know, so know I'm asking you good people :wink2: Thanks in advance!!

How many have to take/have taken HESI?
My nursing school makes us take the HESI every semester, for each class. I got over a 1000 each time. I don't find it that big a deal-- I thought my regular exams were more harsh!!

Question-UTHSC-Houston versus UTA
The University of Texas Arlington School of Nursing (UTASON) is among the 20 largest Schools of Nursing in the United States. Located in the heart of the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex, it is also one of the oldest schools of nursing in the Southwest. The graduate program has been recognized in the top 25% of schools by US News and World Report and the undergraduates ranked number one in licensure exam scores ( 98.8%) among 25 BSN programs in Texas. Over the past three and a half decades, the school has grown and developed into a nationally recognized program with more than 100 faculty and 1,300 nursing students. UTASON has prepared 9,000 alumni for nursing careers with baccalaureate, masters, and doctoral degrees. This wasn't even from the UTA website-- it was from Laerdal, a company that makes hospital equipment. You can read the full article here: http://www.laerdal.com/document.asp?subnodeid=27718745

Question-UTHSC-Houston versus UTA
I'm a UTA nursing senior. I know that UTA has the highest NCLEX passing rate in Texas and the only nursing school in the country with a genome lab. I have classmates that got into Baylor's nursing school and wouldn't go until they heard from UTA first. I have one of the lower GPAs when I got in-- I had a 3.5 GPA when I was a sophomore and my adviser told me that she thought I only had a 60% chance of getting in!

How do you handle rude nurses?
Hi everyone! I'm starting my junior year in a BSN program this semester, and my clinicals start in a couple weeks. Some of the upperclassmen warned us about the possibility of rude nurses, and I was hoping anyone can offer strategies for dealing with them, or their own experiences? I would appreciate anything Thank you! PS- I know this is a digression, but what kind of clipboard do any of you recommend?

Interview Questions When Entering Nursing School
Another thing I want to add: ask questions! When the interviewer is finished, they will ask you if you have any. It's annoying to them to have a dozen "No's." Just think of one prior to the interview. As for clothing, one of my professors advised me to stand out. Not to dress like you're out on the town, but everyone else will be wearing black. So I wore a dark green, button up shirt with brown slacks. She was right. The interview room had about 20 people, all in black suits. The strategy was to make it easier for the interviewer to remember me. I also advise to not look down. If/when you break eye contact, look up or to the side. It portrays confidence. I hope someone gets any use out of this!
