Kennesaw State FNP program
Hello to all, I'm in the process of completing my BSN this spring and really want to jump right in and begin a MSN program with a concentration on FNP. One program that has really caught my eye is Kennesaw State's FNP program. The program seems ideal and I love the fact that it is offered every other weekend. My concern is, I hear it is a very completive program (they only take 25 students). I would love to speak to former or current students to ask how you prepared for the application/selection process? Is the program doable with working full time? Did you have a good experience and feel the program adequately prepared you for practicing as a FNP? Thanks in advance to all who reply.

Anyone work for OptumHealth / UnitedHealth Group?
Hi, I worked for the company and although the pay and benefits are good (around $65,000/yr) the work and expectations are unrealistic. You're expected to met a quota as far as the number of members you enroll in the case management program and then you have to show how you were able to make an impact on the member's health based on your teaching, education etc. Pros 1) Office setting, usually no weekends, holidays or late nights but from what I'm hearing from friends that I know that still work there, that's changing. 2) Some locations allow you to work from home after adequate performance is seen in the office. 3) UHC/Optum is know for compensating their employees well. You will and can receive spot bonuses, raises etc. but again if you meet the required metrics, quotas/goals. Cons 1) Unrealistic goals 2) Computer screen shots and calls are monitored and are throughly scrutinized. Calls are evaluated based on call tone, manner, professional etc. You receive monthly evaluations on your call and suggestions for improvement. Even when you follow the suggestions, it's still not good enough. 3) Things change constantly from management to policies. Overall, not a bad company and I've considered returning but NOT to Optum. Other areas I hear are not as stressful. Good luck on whatever you decide.

Does anyone attend Alfred State University??
Don't get overwhelmed. I felt the same way when I saw the packet. You only get tested on 5 skills but they're randomly selected. I know the skills lab instructor that tested me has left but I've heard good things about the new one. You are allowed to make some errors and still be successful. Just review the biggies (medication adminstartion IM, PO, SQ, dressing changes, Foley insertion, sterile field etc.) Any other questions, feel free to ask.

Telecommuting Positions
I applied to mulitple positions for insurance companies. I received a call back about two weeks later and was offered a UM work from home position. I start this Monday. United Health Care, Humana and Wellpoint are just a few off the top of my head that offer work from home positions. Good luck.

Alfred State Nursing?
I graduated May 2010. The program in very intense but the professors are caring and committed to seeing the students pass. They're usually five exams and then a comprehensive final for each nursing course. They're quizzes and clinical work is graded. Overrall, great program. Any other questions, feel free to ask.

Does anyone attend Alfred State University??
Hi phoenixlady2011, You should receive a skills packet for Nursing 1 and 2 that explains in detail all the skills step by step and what is expected from you. They randomly select 5 skills from the Nursing 1 and 2 skills packet as part of the challenge exam so what I received may not be the skills you get. If you have not received the packet, go ahead and request it from the school's secretary, she can email it to you. Let me know if you have any more questions. Good luck!

I took the nclex today!
It worked for me and I did my quick results yesterday and for sure, I passed!
-
I took the nclex today!
Yeah!!! Congrats!!!

I took the nclex today!
Yes, SPIDERMAN definitely helped me too. Keep refreshing the page, the status should change soon. That's what I did.

I took the nclex today!
Yes, you have to wait until it says "delivery successful". It took about 45 minutes after I left the test center to change to that status. I know your a wreck right now waiting, because that's how I felt. My hands were trembling, I was pale and so nervous waiting to do the trick. I called my sister and we just kept talking so I could keep myself occupied while I waited for the status to change. Try and keep busy. You should find out shortly. Good luck!

Why do people fail the NCLEX?
I can honestly say I was a "A" student in nursing school, had previous healthcare/medical experience, studied my butt off for the exam and when I sat in front of that computer screen, NOTHING I mean NOTHING I studied is what I was tested on. I agree with the previous post, critical thinking is the key to passing this exam. NCLEX is not going to ask you 1 + 2=3 but instead give you a scenario and make you think critically how to get the correct answer of "three". Honestly, sometimes all the answers may be correct but you have to go through each and every answer choice and think which one will give the BEST outcome.

Opinions a little confused on a question
I remember the first question, I believe it's from Kaplan. The answer is "B", come to work as scheduled. I was blown away by that because I agree with the previous post that the person should contact their physician and that's the answer choice I selected. I curious to know what others think as well.

3 DAYS LEFT!!! OMG....
Yeah to be honest, it took me two days to do QT7 and when I finally finished, it was the day before my exam. I was way to tired to go thru all the rationales, so I didn't. I just relaxed and reviewed some things I figured for sure I would need to pass (lab values, Spiderman etc.) Go in there with confidence and know that God didn't bring you this far to leave you. Keeping you in my prayers.

3 DAYS LEFT!!! OMG....
Your Kaplan scores look pretty similar to mines and I passed (according to the PVT) with 75q on Monday. Try not to overly saturate your mind with thoughts that may come in and make you feel like you don't know everything. Honestly, the only help for me was prayer and using the decision tree Kaplan taught because NOTHING I studied was on my exam. I will keep you in my prayers. PS-QT 7 is a killer, it's so long, make sure you're well rested before taking it.

3 DAYS LEFT!!! OMG....
I took my exam yesterday morning. One of the things that helped me was to stay in a positive mind set on my way to the test site. I woke up early, prayed, took a shower and headed out. I stopped at Dunkin Donuts, had a light breakfast (bagel and OJ) and ate while I drove. I had my gospel CD playing in the car to keep the positive vibes going to remind me that God was there with me. Once I got to the test site, I said another prayer in the car and headed into the building. As they started to process me, I kept reminding God of all that I did to prepare myself (answering questions, reading rationales, watching videos etc.) and how much I needed Him to come through and do His part. As I sat at the computer and saw the first question, I wanted to cry. I had no idea what it was asking me nor how to answer it. I just kept silently whispering His name to help calm me down. After an hour and half and around question 63, I requested a break. I went into the bathroom and started praying for clarity and knowledge because I felt like I guessed every question up to that point. Once I got back, I continued and the computer finally shut off at 75. As I was driving home, I continued to pray for success on the exam. Once I got home, I decided to do the PVT, I again started praying. I logged into PV and got the good pop up. The point is, you will have some level of anxiety but don't let that distract you from remaining focused from answering the questions. You've prepared, studied and are ready. And when you start feeling really dismayed, just call on His name, He'll answer. Good luck!

3 DAYS LEFT!!! OMG....
Couldn't have said it better. Took my exam this morning and its only because of HIM, I got the good pop up. I was so sure I failed but GOD IS GOOD!!!

Need some words of encouragement!
Ok guys, my exam is scheduled in less than 48 hours from now and I'm starting to get nervous. I've been primarily using Kaplan, Saunders and NCLEX 3500 as my study tools. I just completed Question Trainer 7 and really just need to hear some words of encouragement as my anxiety starts to kick in. So far my Question Trainer scores are: 1: 66.67% 2: 74.67% 3: 69% 4: 67.53% 5: 62% 6: 67% 7: 66.67% I've already rescheduled the exam twice so far and I really just want to take it and get it over with. I feel I'm ready. I've done over 2000 questions and I'm beginning to feel my brain can not absorb anymore information. I've been praying non stop and know that God has taken me through many more challenging and difficult obstacles in the past with complete victory. I guess I just need some positive words from those of you who have been where I'm at. :redbeathe Thank you.

Kaplan harder than NCLEX-RN, Passed with 75Q & Low Kaplan Scores
Thank you so much for posting this. I was scheduled to take my exam today but felt I wasn't doing well enough with Kaplan Question trainers and Q-banks so I rescheduled. It's really comforting to know and hear Kaplan questions are a lot more difficult than the actual NCLEX exam. I do agree you can't study everything for this test. I believe just having a strong knowledge base and much prayers is the key to mastering this exam. I kinda regret now not taking it today but in a couple of days, I'll be sitting in the same seat you sat in today and prayerfully, will have the same results. CONGRATULATIONS!!!
