Well I worked in our ED as a Unit Sec for 4 1/2 years while in nursing school. The older nurses told me it would be good for me to work at least 6 mos on a Med Surg unit before becoming an ED nurse. Boy what a mistake I made. I transferred to a unit that was short staffed and seemed to want to hurry my orientation, so they could have a warm body working the night shift. The nurses on the floor barely talk to each other, which I find very strange being that everyone in the ED talked and joked with each other and worked as a team; this unit does not know the meaning of teamwork. The cna's do not want to do their jobs, all they want to do is sit at the nursing station and surf the web or see who can be the first one to relieve the secretary for lunch. I am counting down the months because after my 5 months are up, I am hightailing it back to the ED where sensible nurses work!!

Well Loydd888 everyone on this website knows CA test takers have a couple of weeks to wait for test results. My two days feel like two weeks!! Yea, and by the way, last Feb? Do you mean a couple of weeks ago because last Feb. sounds like you mean Feb. 08.

I took my test yesterday and the computer shut off at 90 ques. and now I am just sick to my stomach. I do not think I will even be strong enough to look up my quick results tomorrow for fear that I may pass out.

that is utterly ridiculous!!! what kind of school cancels a graduation ceremony because of the weather? have they ever heard of a inside ceremony? after all the blood, sweat, tears and energy you all have invested in obtaining a nursing degree and to be robbed of the ceremony at the end is just devasting. i am so sorry this happened to you all. best wishes in your career.

hooray hooray!! i just graduated today with my bsn!!! i am so happy, and excited that i am about to pass out.

i live in nc in the triad area and new grad opportunities are abudant. i work in the emergency room as a unit secretary and will graduate from nursing school on dec. 19th. i already have job offers within the hospital i work at. with the so called "nursing shortage", who would ever think a new grad would have trouble finding work.

has anyone used the sylvia rayfield review course?

don't give up. you got through school, so you have obviously been able to retain some nursing knowledge. do you have test anxiety? maybe you should try taking it in a different city, to you know have a fresh outlook.

i will also take my boards mid to late jan. 09 and i am a nervous wreck!! our school is recommending we take the sylvia rayfield review course. has anyone ever used this review? if so, how was it. i have not seen any posts regarding this review or how anyone feels about it.

i feel it should me mandatory for new nurses to start out on a med-surg floor because you start out learning the basics and building that bridge of knowledge that can be used anywhere you work. most students want to "specialize" right out of school. how can you build the roof without the foundation?

I am sorry to hear your husband is not as supportive as he should be. That makes a lot of difference when the one close to you is supportive because nursing is stressful enough and everyone knows how stressful it can be trying to prepare for the NCLEX. Let's face it, this test determines the course of the rest of your life. I believe your husband is jealous of you. Some men cannot handle a women becoming financially stable. Maybe he feels like you may make more money than him, or find you a doctor to marry and he is becoming insecure.

I agreee. There is a long transition from student nurse to the "real world" of nursing. This young lady just seems to be totally lost and will need more precepting to give her the confidence in providing the best nursing care.:redbeathe

i have asked this question to many of the older nurses i work with and without a doubt, they suggest 6 months to a year of med-surg. that way you are confident in what you are doing where ever you decide to work. i always get advice from the nurses with many years under their belts because they obviously know what they are talking about. i graduate in dec. 08, and i dread working med-surg, but i know it will help me more than anything in the end.
