  1. i just got a job at montgomery care and rehab in clarksville as a cna. and i know they have both 8 and 12 hr shifts for their nurses as far as i know they don;t have a weekend only option unless you do prn. from what i heard the nurses who do the 12 hr shifts they say they have a schedule like 3 days on and 2 days off and 2 days on and 3 days off
  2. i will be taking A&P 2 A&P 2 lab world literature american history 1 developmental psychology intro the theatre
  3. thanks ya all i won't be applying till spring for the fall09 start date but i think the closer i get to applying the more nervous i get about it especielly since they changed their admission requirements now to if you retake a course they figure both grades into your gpa. my gpa is currently 3.18 cause i got a D in a class that the teacher failed about 50% of the class in. i am retaking the class in the fall with a different teacher but not really sure how much that will help my gpa. and last spring my college decided to start requiring people to take the teas prior to that admission was solely gpa based. oh another thing those of you who were cna's before going to nursing school did you find that being a cna increased your chances of getting in?
  4. what do you plan to do if you don't get into your nursing program? will you wait and reapply or will you apply at another college and relocate, or will you stay at your current college and switch majors?
  5. still working on my prenursing classes i will be applying to the nursing program in the spring for the fall0 start date. not sure if i will get in though, their minimum gpa for admission is 3.0 but they are recoomending people have 3.5gpa. i currently have a 3.18 gpa due to a really bad teacher last semester that failed 50% of the class. i am retaking the course cause i got a D but they count both the old grade and new grade towards your gpa and they only include classes that are needed for the nursing program so my 2 foreign language classes won't count.
  6. iill be 30 in december and am starting my pre-requesites for my bsn on august 27th. i am technically a transfer student all my classes transferred but only a&p1 and english comp 1 are my only classes that were able to be used for the nursing program. i also have a 2 1/2 yr old and a almost 5 yr old and married. i am a stay at home mom so will be able to devote my time to school and my kids
  7. i got into austin peay so i will be starting my prenursing courses in the fall
  8. i think alot of people also do not get what halloween is actually is most just think it is a day to dress their kids up but that is not the sole reason for the holiday.
  9. i am just starting my nursing pre requesites but i have worked as a CNA in LTC for last 8 yrs and we were always told to report any l;ittle bruise/scrape etc to cover our own butt just because it may have happened on the previous shift doesn't necessarily mean it was reported on the previous shift. and about the incident report in all the LTC's i worked on the nurses had to file incident reports for any bump, bruise, scrape ,fall no matter how minor and they also had to get statements from anyone who witnessed the incident as well. i would ignore the ones who are making fun of you cause its obvious they are just mad cause the incident report is making a little more work for them. about the gentelman in the beginning of the post , is he a total care patient or does he do some thing for himself ? the reason i ask is because if he is a total care or requires assistance getting to the bathroom then the cna on your shift should of noticed it . hard to say though without being there with patients like that who were like that we would sometimes bring another aide in with us or the nurse just so there was a witness
  10. i totally agree as well i am not christian and myself i can't stand people trying to convert me so i will never bring up religion with a patient unless they bring it up and if they did i would listen to their beliefs if it will give them peace even if their beliefs are different from mine. its not fair to force your own beliefs on others.
  11. thanx i am still waiting to hear back they are still waiting for my high school transcripts , my college ones arrived but my high school is being slow about things. we are still debating on if we are going to stay where we are at or whether we want to live in the family apartments on campus.
  12. i am not sure about the travel division but i worked for nursefinders in the past as a CNA and i never had any problems with them and they offer benefits after you work for them for so many hours.
  13. i am not sure if i will be taking a&p 2 this semester yet i have to wait till my college gets my transcripts from my old school. so i am hoping to know in a week or 2 what classes will transfer to this college. i am kinda surprised that people already are registered for classes the college i will be attending isn't having open registration until early august i think
  14. does anyone know if they will accept a tax return transcript from the irs instead of the actual tax return? the reason i ask is because we efiles and saved our taxes to go back and print them later and our computer crashed before we could print them out so we don't have access to the actual tax return. also do they take into consideration any changes in income you have after the 2006 tax return for instance i was collecting unemployment in 2006 but am no longer collecting it and am still unemployed so we are living on just my husbands income currently
  15. yeah i heard it is a good school the college i went to 10 yrs ago was just a small community college, i have never been to a big university before. i even found out some of my college courses may even transfer.
  16. i am starting my pre-nursing courses in the fall and i want to get a voice recorder to tape lectures if colleges still allow that? If the allow it what type of voice recorder would be best to get? I am doing the BSN program and would like something that would make it through all 4 yrs.
  17. so dumb question but with the compact states, it seems as we are moving closer and closer to having a nationwide nursing license instead of just one state. someone commented on my sentence structure, I know my typing is sometimes hard to read but sometimes when i am typing a reply i am trying to type too fast and forget to proofread so if anyone needs clarification on anything i post please ask :)
  18. yes places do have stethascopes and bp cuffs but like pp said the quality of them isn't great and its easier to just have your own instead of waiting for someone to finish with the facility one. at least thats my main reason for having my own bp cuff and stethascope when i was doing cna work.
  19. us4halls posted a topic in General Nursing
this is a ways off for me since i am going to just be starting on my pre-nursing courses in the fall for rn but i was curious do you have to take the nclex in the same state as the school you went to? reason i ask is we are considering moving after i finish school so i was wondering if i had to take the nclex in the state where the school is first and reciprocity to another state or if i could test in another state ?
  20. just thought i would update and say that i have made the decision to go for my BSN instead of the LPN since that is what i would of been going back to school for after the lpn anyhow. i heard that after you finish a certain number of nursing classes for your bsn you can sit for the lpn anyhow?
  21. alot of what i will be taking will depend on what classes from my old school will transfer if a&p1 and eng comp 1 tranfers then i will probably take ap2 , eng comp 2, music appreciation, communication, general psychology, class called freshman experience that the college i will be attending requires all students to take.
  22. tntech i was looking into the lpn program in clarksville but i am starting to have second thoughts on it and am considering just going to austin peay and getting my rn instead
  23. anyone here go to austin peay ? i was originally going to go for an LPN program but i made some calls today and found out my college credits from 1997 are still good and will allow me to apply as a transfer student and some of the credits may even transfer so i decided to just go for the BSN instead
  24. yep i have worked in mostly nursing homes for last 8 yrs i just called a few other colleges today one that offers adn program and the other offers bsn program and both say that even though my college courses are from 1998 i am still considered to be a transfer student and some of my stuff will transfer so i am considering going straight for the rn instead lpn
  25. thanks ya all i have been a CNA for almost 9 yrs and am seeing that the must haves for cna and lpn/rn seems to be about the same as a cna i always had to have stethascope,bp cuff, name badge holder, watch, hair scrunchies, small pad of paper for notes and reminders(pda will probably replace that),alcohol swabs in pockets for stethascope and bp cuff, my nursing clogs
