My professor gives the material safety data sheet to anyone who gets pregnant and tells them to discuss the chemicals with their OB/GYN. It's really the safest thing to do as some of those chemicals just shouldn't be around a growing baby. I'm pregnant right now and will not be taking lab classes this year due to OB/GYN's advice on the chemicals involved.

because i have yet to be harassed, locked in a closet, beaten, or screamed at by followers of thor, buddha, etc, like i was as a child by the fundamentalists who ran my elementary school. the other religions accept my desire not to discuss religions and leave me in peace. i've never gotten substandard care from a buddhist nurse upset with me because i asked not her not to discuss religious topics with me as i did with the christian nurse from hell in ob/gyn. secondarily, i have an issue with a religion claiming to be the only truth out there when they stole ideas from every religion they crushed along the way to get more converts while simultaneously claiming these religions have no validity. if that's the case, it logically follows that stolen invalid beliefs can't magically become the one truth. believe it or not i have quite a few christian friends, but they are friends because they understand i simply have no interest in conversion.

We have a pretty cool (although pretty tough) A&P prof who likes to go off on tangents. He tried to hit the ground running but we ended up talking about hunting, Britney Spears, and Dr. Phil. He's the type with the superlong, write what you know exams, but at least the class is enjoyable...even if my hand is worn out at the end of his tests.

I had my first A&P lecture and lab yesterday. I have a really passionate, really funny lab teacher who looks like he will be a great teacher. I started my prereqs this semester and am taking algebra, A&P, psych, english, and world civ along with working part time and taking care of 2 small children. My husband works on an offshore oil rig 14/14 so he's only here 2 weeks out of the month. Luckily, when he's here, he's great. :)

No, you don't get an ADN if you go straight for BSN. Read some ADN-MSN bridge program descriptions, and most will tell you at which point they award the BSN. Some will say that information is for enrolled students, but the point is that to get to postgraduate study you have to get a BSN at some point. All you do with bridge programs is skip a round of applications, and that alone is worth it. I thought about ADN seriously, but I want to be a CRNA and the bridge options are limited. In my area, ADN is 3 years, and the BSN bridge is 3 semesters and a summer, so I would be losing time to take that route. On top of that, every desperate person in the state is trying to get in the ADN, so even though waiting lists are not maintained the odds aren't good for anybody. There has been quite a bit of negative press about the ADN programs in Mississippi and their huge failure rate on the HESI, so I'd rather avoid them for that reason as well. BSN programs, however, are realistically competitive and a good GPA and interview will get you accepted at the time you apply. It's what I need anyway, so why even think about the schools providing ADNs with questionable practices.

If you read the fine print, you get your BSN a few semesters into the bridge program, so no you don't totally skip the BSN. You can, however, totally skip the ADN.

If it makes you feel any better, my entire family (excluding hubby) thinks I'm insane when I tell them I'm going for my BSN instead of ADN. The way prereqs are set up, it takes 3 years total to get your ADN, so why not just go ahead and get my BSN? I know I want to get my Master's, so it just seems smarter to get it over with. After all, if I change my mind, I'll have more than enough prereqs to get my ADN.

Even if you defaulted on a student loan (I did...young and really broke), if you participate in a loan rehab program and make 6 on-time payments you can get a loan. Mine is fully rehabbed and I am starting school in August (on loan money).

Check your academic honor statement. In most, not reporting cheating is seen just the same as cheating. Report it. Cheating gets them a better GPA that would steal a spot from a deserving nursing student. It is theft and fraud.

You could qualify for an unsubsidized Stafford loan, which according to my financial aid office is not based on need. You either pay the interest while in school or it is added to the amount you borrowed once repayment begins. This is how I am paying for school because even though we're making half as much as last year my EFC is almost 7000. :angryfire

Check into an online class as suggested or seriously consider a babysitter. Two nights for one semester will not be that big of a deal to them. In fact, you would be teaching them a valuable life lesson in that sometimes we have to do difficult things in order to achieve our dreams. Delayed gratification is not taught to children these days. Maybe plan a special family outing after you complete the course. Edited to add: My mother went back to school taking her prereqs for nursing school and stopped because she thought her classes 2 nights a week was too much for us. The truth is that we were very proud of her for going back to school, but she quit without asking what we thought. If she would have asked, we would have strongly encouraged her to continue. If they're old enough (I was maybe 7, my brother 10) I would say have a family meeting about it. You might be surprised by what they say.
