  1. You are SO right!! I have almost finished up my orientation, and today I started off with 5, discharged 1, and admitted 2. So I had 6 pretty much the whole day. Having 6 is tough especially if they have a lot going on. For some reason patient load is divided up by room number not by the needs of the patient. For the first time, I left so upset. I really think that the care my patients received today was not the best that I could have gave them. That is why I think I need to go into a whole new area. I am so dissapointed with the health care system. Gee................ 3-4 patients, no sweat
  2. Jules A~ Thanks I will be moving to Odenton the end of June. I have been told that Anne Arundel Medical Center would be the best option due to traffic. I have heard that the average salary in area hospitals is 25/hr days. I have called about 8 hospitals and none of them have returned my call. Guess I will just fill out the applications and go from there. Take care!
  3. Hello!! Does anyone know the starting pay for the VA in Baltimore?? Also looking into Anne Arundel and Howard County. Thanks
  4. Hello! Glad to see a post on AAMC. We will be moving from Louisiana to Odenton the end of June. I was told that AAMC would be my best bet due to traffic. Any other suggestions?? Thanks!
  5. Hello! I am a new grad and will be coming off of med-surg orientation next week. I feel so overwhelmed most of the time. Not sure if this is something that I want to stick with or not. I find med-surg VERY frustrating and I have considered going into another area. You were saying that your preceptor gave you a schedule to follow. If you don't mind, I would love to have a copy of it. Thanks!!!
  6. I am a new grad and I am making 22$/hr and the cost of living in Louisiana is cheap compared to MD. I am hoping that MD will pay more:) I am in the process of applying for endorsement for MD. I should have the documents finished up this week. So far everything is going as planned. Just not sure where to apply for a job. I guess I will get my feel when I get up there. We are so excited to get back up north. The south is great, but I'm a northern person for sure. We will not miss the insanely hot summers here!!! Thanks for replying!!
  7. i know this post was awhile ago, but my husband finally got official orders to fort meade this week. someone from the base that my husband knows is renting out his home to us in odenton. we will be leaving la on june 23. were really excited to live up north again. still don't know where i want to work at. too many choices. deciding factors will be pay, convenience, and continuing education. take care!
  8. Hello! My husband just received orders to Fort Meade a few days ago. We will be arrriving to the area around the end of June. I have already contacted MBON by email and they sent me an endorsement application. Is this what I should be filling out (currently living and licensed in the state of Louisiana)? In the application it is asking to select a county and what is your permenent address. We do not have housing yet, so I do not know what I should fill out for these questions. I just want to make sure that I am filling out the right info and forms. Thanks in advance!
  9. Thanks so much for the info!! I have heard that JHH pays less, but how much less. I went to UMMC web page and it looks like a beautiful hospital. The education side of it looks promising as well. I saw that White Marsh is in Baltimore County. Does that area have good schools? Our report date is June 30th, so we have so much to do. Thanks again for taking the time to answer my questions!!
  10. I know that I replied to this thread many months ago, but we just received news this week that we are officially moving to Baltimore in June. We are going to try for base housing first and if the waiting list is too long then we have narrowed down some apartments in Cockeysville, Ellicott City, and Columbia. I am interested in working at either Johns Hopkins or University of Maryland. Any more opinions on housing, hospitals, and schools for our kids would be greatly appreciated!!
  11. My test stopped at 75 and went blank too. Good luck!!!
  12. It took exactly 48 hrs for me! I know how you feel though. I really feel bad for those who have to wait for 4 weeks. I would really go nuts. I did hear that one person got there results at midnight instead of waiting at 0800. Who knows. Good luck though........
  13. Woohoo!! I passed with 75 questions!!!
  14. Ok, just took my test this morning. Should have my results wed morning. I can't believe that some of you have to wait for 4 weeks to get your results. I would go nuts!!!
  15. Congratulations!!!!! :yeah::yeah: I more week until I take the test.........
  16. Congratulations to you!!! :up::up:
  17. Congratulations to you!!!
  18. I recently graduated from nursing school in Dec and will be taking boards at the end of this month. My husband has a strong possibility of getting an assignment to Fort Meade (May time frame). I am very interested in working for JH and any information about this facility would be greatly appreciated. Are there any other facilities that anyone would recommend in the Baltimore area (competitive salary, benefits etc.)?? Also, what is the starting salary for a new grad in the Baltimore area?? Thanks!!
  19. Thanks for your advice! You made me feel less anxious about taking my exam at the end of this month. Good luck to you and your new career!!
  20. Up until now I have been cleaning and organizing my poor house!! I have also been enjoying my time with my family. This Monday is my first day at the VA as a nurse tech. I am really excited to get this started. I also have plans to start studying for the NCLEX (graduate dec 07). Will see about that though. I have not been very motivated to study lately!
  21. Congratulations!! Very well deserved!
  22. Seems like in every class (except OB and Psyc) we have lost 5 students by the end of each class. Out of the original 50, we are down to about 35. We are entering our last semester this fall and we will be taking the last 2 levels of med-surg. The students before us lost half of the class after these last 2 levels of med-surg.
  23. We are an USAF family. We have been stationed at quite a few places. Wright-Patterson is probably one of the largest in the US and it is also a teaching hospital. It is right outside Dayton, Ohio.
  24. It took me about 1 1/2 years (summer school as well) to finish my pre-req for a 2 yr program. Pre- req for a BSN would probably take 2 years. You are so smart to spread out your science classes. That is what I did. I also made sure that all of my pre-req were finished before I started nursing school. A lot of people don't do this and they are very stressed during school. Good luck!!
  25. Hello and welcome. I started back to school when I was your age. I was scared to death, but I have no regrets now. I will be graduating this dec with my ADN. I have done very well in college (was not a good student in high school) and I am planning to finish my 4 yr. shortly after I graduate. My long term goal is to become an NP before I am 40! Life is short and if you have a dream you need to go for it! Good luck!
