  1. I spoke with a recruiter from the reserves and he said they are not hiring even us educated foreign nurses that are working in the states now. Is is information wrong?? If so, who do I approach exactly? thanks so much in advance!!
  2. What is conus backfill? Pardon my ignorance. What else did the recruiter say? Thanks so much in advance!
  3. Is it possible to be non deployable in the army reserves and just do stuff in your home city?? Or given we have 2 active wars, is everyone potentially deployable? What exactly does the reserve entail and how long does the commitment tend to be? Thank you so much in advance for your help!!
  4. how exactly do we use a doppler to find bp and map??? new to dopplers - please advise. Thank you.
  5. Thank you silverdragon as always for such a thoughtful response!! I'm currently on a tn and feel like I'll never move to something more permanent due to the long waiting times. How long does it take to get a green card if in the NP H1B category? Or is it still the same? Thank you!!
  6. I would think it would depend on the area you go into? Any truth to this? I just stared NP school after almost a year on the floor and have my sights set on a minute clinic or preferably a relatively low stress environment. Do these exist? Or is it constant doubting and stress from here on out? Thank you in advance for your thoughtful responses. I too am trying to escape the constant chaos of a cardiac floor as a floor nurse.
  7. For those nurses who have acquired H1Bs: who has sponsored you and under what position? Have they also filed for green card sponsorship as well? Thank you so much in advance. Does anyone know approximately how long it takes for canadian nurses to get green cards once I-140s are filed?? I'm a BSN prepared nurse now attempting to prepare for the future! Not sure whether or not I should ask my american employer to file the I-140 due to the potential of never being able to leave the hospital. Thank you!!!
  8. Thank you so much for such a thorough response. I really appreciate it.
  9. thinking of doing an FNP program in the states (here now) in case I'd like to work as an NP in Ontario later. I'm Canadian and concerned that my education won't translate unless I do an FNP as opposed to any of the other specialities. My primary interest is adult care or psych care but if I can't find a job in the states, I don't want to be stuck! Thanks so much for your help.
  10. which courses are we supposed to take first? just applying now but it says to enroll for some courses already. Thank you!
  11. Is the FNP program that just started fully accredited? How long does it take to get in, etc.? Thank you so much in advance. Just wanting to know I can pass the boards and get a license with it!!
  12. would much prefer to work with adults but the consensus seems to be that you are more marketable in general with an fnp. Thoughts????? do not want to make a costly mistake!! thank you so much in advance.
  13. What about getting an ANP in the states and then working as an NP in Canada? Must it be an FNP? would rather deal with adults only! Thanks!!!
  14. I'm so glad you posted this as I'm rather curious as well. Thinking about getting an NP in the states - I am an RN here. IF I get my NP then move back to Canada (my home), can I do the same job as long as I pass the Canadian test? Or are there other hurdles? I've been told being an RN in Ontario with a us license is not so easy. Wondering about the NP issue. Thank you so much!!
  15. Oh, wonderful!! Where are you from originally? Canada is a wonderful country - my home!!
  16. Thank you as always SilverDragon!!! My concern is by the time retrogression is supposed to be done, the government will have changed the laws and the green card application won't even apply or something. Maybe this fear is highly unfounded. I don't know. It's incredibly frustrating to think that everything is so in limbo.
  17. Not sure whether even worth it for my employer to file (if they even will) for green card if it will take so many years for it to materialize. Think I may be better gaining experience and then pursuing graduate degree or something different? Thoughts?? Thank you so much for your input. I'm a Canadian in tn status.
  18. Good luck to you! Don't know the details of your situation but hoping everything goes okay for you and you find something you love.
  19. Mercedes, Thanks so much for such a thorough message! apprecitate it.
  20. what is the shortest np program with the least amount of clinical hours? Eager to get off the floor as an RN!! Thanks in advance.
  21. In which states would I qualify for in state tuition on a tn as a Canadian? Can we school full time as long as we maintain the tn? what about online schooling and tuition? Thank you so much in advance for your advice. And lastly, what is going on with green card retrogression for Canadians??
  22. Thank you silverdragon!! Greatly appreciated.
  23. Thank you silverdragon! Crazy I may not be able to practice in my own country. Out of curiosity, what is the priority visa date for Canadians in the states? Do not understand how to read that website. Thanks again!!!
  24. What happens after passing the Canadian boards? Will they accept a 1 year accelerated bachelor of science in nursing and an RN american license?? I am Canadian by my education is in the states as well. Curious. Thanks!!!
  25. about to start first job and I'm kind of nervous about using all the equipment, blood draws, ivs, etc. Anything you suggest to practice at home or read? I understand the medical aspect to nursing but I'm terribly weak at the skills. Thank you so much in advance!!
