Have applied for Barry last week, how soon to hear from them?
I interviewed @ Barry and was accepted last year, but I did not like their program one bit. Anyway, they sent letters in the mail, a lg packet if I remember correctly. They also used email and called me. You should definitely call them and verify that they have received all your info....Barry does Lg scale interviews...there were about 30 people at mine. I interviewed in January and was told about it 2 months prior in like November...they will at least say something like yes we received your info and if you are selected we will be holding interviews the 2nd week of blah blah so at least you have an idea. These people know that we're nurses and schedules are made ahead of time. they are not hard to deal with so call them.

Advice...
Hello All...Was wondering if there are any CRNA's out there with hearing loss or have difficulty hearing in the OR with masks on. I'm an ICU nurse now on the 6 month countdown before anesthesia clinical starts. I have some mild hearing loss and I do wear hearing aids which seem to help alot. I have trouble in the higher pitches and most of my problems stem from high pitched beeps or tones and also F's and S's ie: fifty vs. sixty. When I do bedside procedures in the ICU sometimes I have no problem hearing the docs and other nurses when we're all wearing masks, but other times it sounds like people are mumbling and I can't make out every word they're saying. I'm soooo nervous and stressed out about this, I'm probably totally overreacting but wanted to get some input......

"PRIVATE/ALTERNATIVE" LOANS for SRNAs
I didn't see anything in that article that was talking specifically about the tuition answer loan?? It was all about Federal loans, not private.

Alternative Loans - here's what I've found
The cost of attendance comes from your school's financial aid office...it should already be worked out w/ sallie mae. I called and the loan officer told me my COA was about 55k (forget exact #) per year for my school, but the max loan is 40. If you want the full 40, you HAVE to borrow the 20,500 in federal loans from a lender other than sallie mae b/c if you don't they will take 40k-20,500 and leave you with 19,500. Basically, if they don't know you're taking federal loans from elsewhere then you can get the full amount. You should just call and get the info, the lady was nice and believe me, they know we're all trying to beat this crazy system and get what we need the easiest way. She knew all the answers to my ?s and exactly what I was talking about. She also said not to worry if you've quit work already b/c their equation for approval has no bearing on income, which is kinda weird but whatever works. I'm no expert, but with the way people are freaking out, I decided to check into all this stuff and have gotten alot of pretty good info to make me feel like I won't have problems getting $$$ if my bank account isn't where I need it to be when I start next Fall.

Alternative Loans - here's what I've found
most places are offering prime which is 5.25% plus 1-4% based on ur credit score and debt vs income ratio. if you have a credit score above 700 and low debt to income then ur fine and would be dumb to go with the grad plus loan when you can get a lower interest rate with an alt loan. by the way, the sallie mae tuition answer loan does not need to be verified by the school....

"PRIVATE/ALTERNATIVE" LOANS for SRNAs
If your credit is that good, then the grad plus loan @ 8.5% may not be your best bet...you should get more info on private lenders and their rates.

ER Only Background for CRNA??
- oh no !!!! what now?
ETS states that it takes two weeks for GRE scores to be available....mine were available over the phone within a week and mailed to me like 3 or 4 days after I was able to hear them over the phone. I just took them this summer- There's NO way it takes 6 weeks. Also, they say it takes about 3 days to process the paperwork to send it to the schools you choose...then it goes out standard US mail from new jersey to wherever...Or many schools are accepting electronically and thats much faster. You can call ets and ask which way your desired school accepts scores. My biggest thing with applying and getting into CRNA school...I've never dealt with any admissions secretary or whatever b/c it seems like they all just talk alot of BS and don't know exactly what's going on...you have to go to the top to get the right answers. Email the program director, or call and find out who the program coordinator is and they should be able to guide you with their specific rules. You can apply to most schools before your BSN is complete...- Anyone going to Drexel?
Tony, No I'm not even going to interview...I'm already scheduled to work that day and I just really like my program overall anyway. I just have had really hard times with drexel during this whole application process...I think they have a good rep etc, but haven't personally made me happy. I remember you saying one of the girls in the micu got into nova, but you never got back to me about who it was. PM me when you get a chance and let me know b/c chances are I know them since I was up there all summer for the internship. Take care, Jen- Anyone going to Drexel?
I applied for 09 and have an interview on 12/6, but am not really interested in drexel anymore since I was accepted elsewhere. The last few spots for 08 were filled at the interviews on 9/10 and as far as I know, there were only 3 spots anyway-and then they rolled everyone else over to 09. Usually you don't interview in December and then start the following month in January. Tony- all the people in my unit work full-time or 72 and all of drexel's classes are online...towards the end of the core classes a few people have gone WIP and are trying to work through clinicals...they say they are doing well so far. It's crazy though, I can't imagine...they have kids too! Jen- 1099 vs standard pay
I thought you don't pay tax upfront w/ 1099, so have to allot for tax dollars, too? Is there some type of easy calculation to figure out what your actual take home would be compared to a W2 employee as far as the tax...I know other benefits, etc will vary.- This is how it really is for this new CRNA
yeah that does sound really good! can't wait!- What route did you go?
BSN is alot of busy work, but nothing astronomical. I worked FT through this entire process. Get your ICU experience in the year or two while you're getting your bsn and start applying to anesthesia schools when you have like 6-8 months left of school.- How old is everyone?
I'm 23...starting in 09. will be almost 27 when i'm done.- What route did you go?
I did exactly what the guy you knew did. Plus, while you are working in the ICU...someone else (your employer) is paying for your bsn. I just got accepted to crna school, so it worked for me and I wouldn't change it if I could do it over.- Doctorate for Entry into Nurse Anesthesia by 2025
I'm somewhat torn between 2 schools. The 1st one I was accepted to offers an MSN, but the other is an MS in Anesthesia. So, with all of this DNP 2025 in consideration I'm curious as to the process if I chose the school that awards the MS in Anesthesia...guessing I would have to take MSN classes and then DNP classes? What do you guys think is best? I'm not the type of person that is going to stay in one state forever...I'm only 23, and will eventually move someday, so who knows if I would be grandfathered in-in another state.- Measuring fluid loss by weight!
This is usually used when you're diuresing a pt. So if they drop 3 kg's then they've diuresed 3 L- Status asthmaticus
Wikipedia is not a reliable source, just so you know.- Drexel/Villanova Interviews
I PM'd you.- CRNA or MDA?
mambutz7hart, i agree with a lot of the things you said! there's always sooo many floor nurses and icu nurses that say they had to choose between rn & md. in my opinion, the general bedside nursing role and the md role are completely different and are nothing alike. medicine is very different from nursing as we all know. but, in the anesthesia world it's a different story b/c the 2 roles practice together, and have the same job duties in many institutions...although the mda so does sometimes does a lot of supervision/induction only. so, this is a dilemma i can understand and relate to. i was just accepted to crna school in the philly area...and after thinking about this for a long time, that's the best decision for me. you have to look at many aspects...i'm 23, and i want to be a mom someday and actually get to see my kids. plus, seeing what those residents go through???? ugh, no way! i think that if i hadn't worked in hospital as a tech and then as a nurse, my opinion would be different, but i see how hard the residents work, and they have no time for anything. i think the crna route will provide me with job that i am happier with and allow for more autonomy. have you shadowed any crna's/mda's yet? that may be a good idea for you. i just know that i need to have a life outside of work and that's what made my decision for me. goodluck!- Interview - help needed
??? what class are you interviewing for then? b/c they are working on jan 08 still...- Interview - help needed
are you interviewing for jan 08 admission?- What's the difference?
Does it matter which you choose as far as for continuing education?- What's the difference?
No one has any answers?! - oh no !!!! what now?
