  1. Well, I am a early bird but I would think being ten minutes early would be appropriate.
  2. It would probably depend on the job. If it was management etc you would probably have to have BSN. Just regular staff nurse I don't see why BSN would be required.
  3. What kind of experience do you have to have to be a forensic nurse? SO far all I have done is psych and quality management. Forensic nursing has always interested in and I was not sure how to pursue that. DO you have to take special classes.accreditation for that? Thanks
  4. Yes, you can do it! I was 50 when I started nursing school. My kids were grown however and that helped tremedously! If you want something bad enough it can be done. Do you have a solid support system..husband, family etc that will be there for you because your life will change completely while in school..as a matter of fact you won't have much of a personal life while in school or that was my experience anyway.
  5. I learned absolutely nothing in Micro. Unfortunately, my professor only wanted to teach basic chemistry and the Krepps (?) cycle. I had nothing regarding infections, sepsis etc. I was so disappointed.
  6. Well, I can tell you what pre req class I wish I had paid more attention to because it came up over and over again in nursing school, clinicals, NCLEX reviews, the class was Developmental Psych. I did not realize the importance of this class until it was too late. I made a "C" but if only I had known how important this class was I would have paid more attention. Everything in nursing had to do with certain stages in dev. psych. From newborn, peds, psych, senior citizens, cultures, death and grieving process and on and on. Really, it is very important to have a heads up on all these things before you start actual nursing. I did pass everything but I could have made my life so much easier! Even if this particular class is not on your cirriculum I would advise you take it. God Bless!
  7. I also was 52 when I became RN at 52. I work in Quality Management and geriactric psych. I have to admit I would not want to do med surg at my age and I am sure telemetry floor is the same. Everyone is different..there are a lot of older RN's doing med surg and telemetry and seem to love it. I am sure you will do great. Congrats on graduating!!!!!!
  8. Only YOU can decide if it's right for you. Even if you get into nursing and don't like it..are you really any worse now than you were? Probably not. I was a 52 year old grandmother when I graduated so don't let age stop you. Actually 30 is not old at all for nursing school. You may need to work on that weak stomach though! LOL Good luck!
  9. I was 52 when I graduated from RN school. My kids were grown which helped. My poor husband didn't see me for a while because I still had to work (they put me thru school) 32 hrs a week and drove almost 600 miles a week. I graduated in December 2008 and passed Boards in February 2009. I lost my husband suddenly in Feb 2010 and I am so glad he got to see me finish school and how it helped us financially. God will help you do this if it is His well. Best wishes!!!!!
  10. Have you checked into LPN school? The Vo-tech's are usually less expensive. I really hate to see you give up on your dream.
  11. All I can say is don't give up your dream. I saw this happen MANY times at my school and the students went back the next semester and did pass and become a RN. Just see it as another twist in the road but you will reach your destiny.
  12. That sounds great!!! I hope ALL the schools that kept good people from graduating due to HESI will follow in CCC's footsteps. I hope all the nursing schools in Louisiana are reading this. Please consider changing your graduation requirements. All HESI is is a marketing strategy they use on instructors.
  13. I understand completely!! My school also had the same rules. Where do you attend school. Are you in NW Louisiana? Anyway, my school required a 900 to pass finals to graduate. What does your school require. I would love to see HESI done away with. Out of the 100 or so students that i went to school with..there were 23 at the pinning. I hope you will NOT give up your dream. Go to another school even if you have to move. God Bless you!!
  14. You have to have a compassionate and caring nature to be a nurse but I honestly believe that when selecting a career choice you MUST consider income and job availability also.
  15. Nursing was much more difficult than the pre nursing! My school also had the HESI test which was very difficult. Actual nursing classes involve nurse care plans, clinicals and tests and all that together is very hard. I made it at 52 years old and so can you. God Bless!
  16. They are NOTHING alike!! NLN is like a ACT test, it has different subjects like reading, math, english, algebra, etc. HESI is like a mini state board I had to take after each semester to progress to the next level. I got the books on each subject, like OB-GYN, medsurg, psych, etc and each had a cd with test q&a and that is how I studied for each HESI. The HESI book alone did not help me even thought other class mates of mine said it really helped them. I hope this information helps. God Bless!!!!
  17. No, it's not wrong to be furious! I also worked hard to become a nurse. My own family does this when in fact he is a medical assistant in a clinic but calls himself a nurse. I love my nephew but c'mon if you wnat that title go to school and earn it!!!!!
  18. I live in Louisiana and every student I know that graduates has a job within one month. I don't know what state you live in but keep looking, the perfect job is out there for you! God Bless You!!!!
  19. That is sooo crazy!!! You would not be eligible to take boards if you hadn't finished school. Sorry you are having so many problems.
  20. I graduated in December 2008 and passed boards in February. If you have a license it was understood that I had the proper education, at least in my case it was.
  21. If you have your nursing license why are they wanting your transcript. I was only asked to produce the license.
  22. Dear VEEKA25, I am not sure if tht is legal or not. I also feel you should be "grandfathered" in since that was the requirement when you enrolled. Maybe you could appeal the 900 HESI to the board of regents, dean, etc. I am not sure who you need to talk too! A score of 900 is hard to obtain. I personally don't agree that a cretain score will help you pass boards. I believe you could pass boards with a 800 but who am I to decide that. Good luck in school!!!
  23. That is an attainable goal to acheive. Good luck.
  24. What HESI scores are required for you to complte the program?
  25. I absolutely will pray for you. I alsays pray for everyone taking the HESI!!!
