  1. I got my scores and did better than I thought. Since there were 80 questions in verbal and science, but only 60 counted I did better than I thought.( BTW, as a teacher, adding 20 extra questions to a high stakes test does not seem to be a very good idea). Anway I did fine and now need to pass Algebra!
  2. Thanks for sharing your wonderful story! Lizard3
  3. I took the NLN last Monday and although I felt the McDonald NLN prep book prepared me well for the verbal and math--the science questions were much tougher than the ones in the book and I am afraid I did not do well. What is worse is that I left puzzled as to how to better prepare next time. I felt that I would have to take a full chem and physics course to do well. Next time-I will only study the science portion.
  4. Thanks! I have thoroughly studied the NLN prep book, but then I looked at Learning Express' Pre-entrance prep and was shocked at the different types of questions on it. I hope the actual exam is like the NLN book. Lizard3
  5. I have been studying the NLN book, but today I got on a Express Learn site for Nursing School Entrance prep--and the level of difficulty on the chem questions alone was ten times higher than in the NLN book and now I am spooked. Does anyone out there have experience 1-with the test ( I have not taken it yet) and 2--with Express Learn prep? I am confused why one group's questions are so much harder than the other. Thanks, Lizardmay
  6. Hi, Thanks for the encouraging note. I read yours after reading all the burn out threads. :) I am 52 as well but am just now taking pre-reqs, but I love taking a & p even though I find it very challenging. I am not sure if I will pursue nursing or a Ph D program in education. I do like to help people but I am leaving education because I got tired of the helicopter parents. When I read all the criticism leveled at nurses, and all the stress, I am wondering if I am getting out of the frying pan into the fire. All advice welcome.
  7. Hi, I have only taken one online science course from Weber. There are 100 students in the class and it is not really interactive-if that is what you are looking for. We simply do 8 units with homework and a test for each. I did not take the lab--my state of Ga is not too keen on online labs for micro. I have an A but I study all the time and do find the material difficult. I am hoping to take chem with Klepper from ICCC as many in the distance forum have recommended him. Hope that helps! Lizard3
  8. Hi, Finding schools that offer the nursing pre-reqs is easy--making sure your nursing school of choice will accept them is another matter. I have found some to accept the chem with online lab but not the bio. Others are leery of any on-line labs at all. The best advice I can give you is to send course descriptions to your nursing school (ususally they make you send them to the chem dept or bio dept head) and don't begin a course online without approval or you could end up with credits that will not transfer. From what I read here many have transfered credit-including labs, easily. I have not found that to be the case in Ga. Good luck to you! Lizard3
  9. Hi Y'all, I am taking mircro now online from Weber State and we use the Tortora Micro book (6th edtion). The book goes into much more detail than the tests, and it got me to wondering about how much micro a nurse needs on the job. I am a new pre-nursing student and it would be helpful to know--do I need to be able to recall what bacteria is gram neg and gram postive, etc.? Or for the NCLEX exam-how much micro is included? I find all the material a bit overwhelming, but interesting. I will be taking the lab later since online labs are not accepted for most of my pre-reqs here in GA. Thanks! Lizard 3
  10. Thanks! Apparently things are a bit tougher in GA--I am running into trouble getting a school to accept the A & P, although I did get the chem dept chair to sign off on the chem. Right now I am waiting for a decision after writing to the online profs for more detailed descriptions about the lab. If I cannot find a school in GA who will accept an online A & P lab and course--I do not see how I can work and get these pre-reqs. I would love to hear from those in GA (or anywhere) who have had this problem. If they say not to edukan and Iocc I will try Rio Salado next. Not giving up yet, Lizard3
  11. Hi, Your post motivated me to search my state's(GA) board website and they do stipulate that all science classes must have a lab (something one school did not tell me) but not what kind of lab. I think it would be advisable for us all to find out our states board specs. Regards, Lizard3
  12. Thanks for all the help. I wanted to take my science through IOCC with Dr. Klepper, but one program I am applying to will only accept chem courses for science majors --so I could not take the IOCC courses-although I wanted to. I am now looking into EDUKAN which does have the chem for science majors-but hope it is not too hard. Also need to make sure they are accredited and transferable to my schools in GA. Anyone have trouble transferring EDUKAN credits? Thanks, Lizard3
  13. Hi Y'all, I am currently taking an online micro course at Weber which is fine, but although I received approval for it from one school, a different one would not accept it due to it not having a lab. So now I am trying to find a micro lab only--don't want to pay for taking micro twice! Any advice? Lizard3
