  1. Ok. I'm really happy the first half of this thread mentioned cakes, etc... because it felt sinful to immediately say: FOOOOOOD! Definitely gets me through! Cake + pastry breaks... a quickie for a coffee sip... and the main entree during my break!
  2. I hope I can help with understanding this. I used to work at a place where we get our good share of nursing students. Most of the time, they surprise us with the students-- with very little warning from administration or management that we will be teaching a big group. The unit I worked in was very toxic-- high acuity and high patient-nurse ratio. Needless to say, we were not happy with having students there because the job was hard enough to begin with. Having them come and surprise us just makes it worse! It does not excuse the lack of professionalism. But really, sometimes it's more than just about the nurse to nursing student dynamics or the nurses eating our young. As a general observation, the hospitals and units where nurses received a lot of support have been welcoming to me when I was a student. I also went on a few interviews where I got to meet nurses & go around units. Crabby nurses had crabby working environments whereas the pleasant and welcoming nurses I've met loved their units! Hope this helps... :) don't get disheartened. You will meet happy, professional nurses who will want you to excel in our profession.
  3. I'm starting in an ICU and I love how every one of my coworkers welcome me! They give me so much reading material & resources and motivate me to read up, study, and go back to school for an advanced degree. I'm overwhelmed but mostly I am very grateful that they want me to succeed. As one of them says: "I want you to fly...." !!! I can't wait to precept!
  4. Network!! Of course you do the usual--excellent grades, ECs, externships, CEs after graduation-- but don't underestimate getting to know the managers of the units you're interested in during your clinicals and externship. Get their contact info and keep in touch, and express your interest early on. Because of the volume of applicants hospitals get, knowing the managers/ HRs, etc... will give you a step ahead. Good luck!
  5. OOOOOH mystiqx! Good luck tomorrow! So psyched for you girl! Knock em dead!
  6. Heya xjae! COngratulations!!! I got in to Hunter as a transfer student and got accepted to the nursing program for fall 2007. When I decided to go to hunter, i had no idea how competitive it was. There were a lot of horror stories with the application process for nursing which I'm happy to report (at least in my case) don't seem true! Nessa and I and a few others are all buddies on the NLN thread!!! and thank goodness we all got in! Just keep those grades up!!!! And it would be good idea to start looking in to the NLN exam!!! COngratulations!!! and BEst of luck!
  7. Heya ethnic beauty! It depends on the program you're applying to. Some base it on the GPA in pre-reqs, some on the total GPA... some consider both! MOst programs require a "C" or better. Some even take in to consideration how well you progress. Better check it with your school! Good luck and I wish you all the best! :)
  8. Heya vicky! So sorry to hear about that lottery admission process. Its sounds really unfair. Seems like you have great plan lined up! We'll be rooting for you! Good luck on the BSN girl!
  9. WHOOO! I am so Freaking excited for you mystiqx!!!! All the MONTHS OF anxiety finally pays ofF!!! I bet you'll knock them off their feet come the interview!!!!!!!! :monkeydance::balloons::monkeydance::balloons::monkeydance::balloons: and what perfect timing too!!! you'll finally enjoy barcelona with that off your mind!!!! And what wicked fun it is to pick out that interview outfit!!!! And you are so right! We've come such a long long long long long long way! I can still remember out NLN thread talks with everyone!!!! 10. CONGRATULATIONS on the baby!!! :) and getting into the program! Its workable. had a very close friend who had a baby right before med school. She's graduating next year... and Cole (her baby) is just adorable! Good luck and hope you work something out!!! :)
  11. Heya Kina21! you're not alone and its not pathetic! Happens to me all the time! Last semester, I got all As (Dev Psych, Pol Sci, Statistics) except for a writing intensive course which i got a B in! Totally dragged down my gpa. This sem, Im getting all As too (AP2 and Nutrition) except in my English class where, even if I bust my ass for the final paper, I'll probably get a B+ at best. Hmmm... something about English classes... And heck it totally bites!!!! And until now, i feel absolutely terrible about those Bzzzzzz! You know what else, it sucks coz you cant exactly "complain"as much... esp when most people are happy just crusin by whereas you expect As for yourself! And I dont cut myself some slack too!!!! I beat myself about it! LOL! so, you're not alone! To tell you the truth, there was a time when if I got an A but i was bordering near a B+, id feel totally upset thinking i should have gotten a higher number grade (even if its the same letter)! And it seems like a terrible thing to feel bad about right? But what can you do?
  12. Hey girl! Enjoy your vaca! you deserve it! Hopefully good news will meet you when you come back! All my good vibes to ya... got my fingers crossed!!!
  13. nessa, i saw the pics of the nursing students in brookedale once but they were wearing blue scrubs. i saw some students in hunter main once who were wearing uniforms. Don't know if its nursing. BUt it was flimsy white, had this round collar, and baby blue piping!
  14. CONGRATULATIONS!!! hahaha. it takes some kind of a person to get that 4.0 given that psycho prof of yours!
  15. had a chance to dissect cadavers for a year of anatomy before. Many shapes and sizes! We had a lecture hall right next to an enormous lab full of cadavers on gurneys. The first day of anatomy lab then were various cuts of the human head--so shocking to see the conchae!! The air reeked of formaldehyde and peppermint (no more mentos for me). all of the cadavers had their brains taken out for a the neuroanatomy lab so it was interesting. During violent dissections s(such a exposing the mediastinum) the skull caps would pop off. Before this anatomy class, I had a comparative anatomy class where we dissected going up the animal kingdom... from the salamanders to the lampreys, to birds, to cats!!!! I hear some dissect baby pigs. We had these mini cat bags and sometimes, we'd "study" in halls or at home to freak people out!!! Sigh. Those were the fun anatomy days. My current A&P has sheep eyes and heart and mostly models which are really really relatively easy. Some cadavers we had were really small, the blood vessels were collapsed... the muscles looked like plastic. And there were so many! So practicals were definately a challenge.
  16. Good luck nurs2btracy! And to all those waiting for acceptance letters (specially to Mystiqx!!) .
  17. Hey guys! The registration for nursing classess would be automatic/ pre-set, at least thats what I heard. The nursing dept has it all figured out. No more registration hassles. I have 3 more major exams! AP lab, AP lecture, and nutrition!!! plus a major paper due for a lit class im taking! and thats it. I bailed on my academics during the last wave of exams so its crunch time!!! I can't wait for the May 30 orientation! And I cant wait to get started. Im even getting a haircut for that picture we're supposed to bring. And I understand we also have to do uniform measurements! ooooh. Wonder what they look like. Anyways, good luck on your final exams you guys! I hope to see you on the 30th!!! And once again, :balloons::monkeydance::balloons::monkeydance::balloons::monkeydance:. The wait is over!!!! SO HAPPY WE GOT IN!!!!!
  18. I feel the same way.l I have this really silly fear that if make a mistake with the response/reservation form i might lose my spot. teehee. none yet. I rarely go to my classes anymore. I've just been taking tests lately. Maybe I'll hear from someone on my lab exam later this week! I have heard murmurs on the corridors on A&P and nutrition classes from people stressing over the letters!
  19. Hey M, all good vibes to you!! Its frustrating but hang in there, girl!
  20. CONGRATS NESSSAAAAA!!!! :balloons::monkeydance::balloons::monkeydance:
  21. Hey Trin!!! Congratulations tooo!
  22. Hey guys! I got my letter and I got in too! I was so scared to open it. I thought it was too early and too thin! Now, I just feel relieved and extremely excited! This past month was (and still is) extremely, extremely, extremely difficult. Im just soldiering on. Getting this news was like eating steak after days of marching. teehee. LIke a ray of hope in my weary, battered heart.
  23. We met in premed actually and we've been toying with the idea for quite some time. We parted ways for a year. He took a 2nd deg in Biotechnology, worked in a lab while i went to med. When we reunited, he had gotten accepted to UMDNJ and took the plunge! I loa'd after a year and worked for a while and finally decided to go to nursing too! :) Oh, and we got married somewhere along the way! hahahaha! It was really strange with Hunter. When you send your app (deadline is Mar 1) the latest date you should be taking your NLN was Mar 3. The results will be sent to HUnter (supposedly within 2 weeks of the exam). I didnt know they had the deadline for NLN results set for last Fri (Mar 30). The didnt really tell us. Good thing I called. This season kinda feels like a drought. Theres a month gap from taking NLN and waiting for results (mid May).... Sigh sigh sigh.
  24. OOOH, I gotta say. those abs were surreal! and yes, any day... any day.... Id take any of em!
