  1. thanks for the info. Some schools have different pre reqs. Adelphi requires organic chem, huh? I don't know about that one.
  2. HI, Would you mind telling me what the pre-reqs were for Adelphi and how long the Accelerated program is? I can't get anyone to talk about this and its not on the website.
  3. This is exactly what I am studying!
  4. HI, I heard about NYU's acceptance rate being about 35%. Does anyone know what it is for Pace? Downstate?
  5. Katie - I was so glad to read your post. I am considering applying for next summer. Btw- my name is also Katey. I was wondering how is was to get in. did you have to have a high College GPA or was more emphasis given to the pre-reqs in particular?
  6. tab65- yes, their accelerated program is for someone who has a BAch already. but you know what? Since non-medical bachs usually don't have the pre-reqs it turns out to be the same thing as transferring in after two years of undergrad work -- if not longer.
  7. thanks for the info folks, NYU seems like the best choice for me except they are such a big program i don't just want to be a number. I feel like i'd have a better chance being accepted at CNR. I am definitely going to apply to both. I found out today that you need to have taken the GRE or GMAT to apply to the accelerated BSN at Pace. what a drag.
  8. I agree with Subee. They have tons of scholarships because they need numbers. I was reading that the average person at a private catholic college pays $2-4000 in tuition because the grants are so good. borrow the rest. the pay will be worth it. Besides LOTS of hospitals will pay back some of your loans if you agree to work for them for a few years upon graduation. You should talk with the admissions officers at colleges you may be interested in. Don't be afraid -- its only a conversation!!
  9. hi, I heard Cornell has great opportunities for new grads.
  10. HI, I graduated from Hunter a few years ago with a different degree, yet know quite a few people in the nursing program. Getting into the program itself from the General pool of Hunter people is quite difficult. They didn't really show any preferential treatment to their own student body. Also since they consider themselves the "flagship nursing program for Cuny" they aren't very friendly. This is all second hand, mind you. ARe you not interested in the private schools? A little more tuition but you'll get more attention and definitely make that money back in your salary upon graduation.
  11. they have an accelerated portion which is 18 months.
  12. chaya , you may not need to finish up at Empire. you can probably transfer in somewhere if you have tons of credits already. check out Mounts St Vincent's program in midtown.
  13. hi, I read your post on Dominican College. I would go for the ABSN. Can you tell me how the commute is? The faculty? And what about your job prospects?
  14. REally??? I heard from Donna that they take people who have done their pre-reqs anywhere. This sucks. They are one of the top schools i'm looking at. Why can't i get a straight answer from any of these professionals?!
  15. I am interested in this school also, for the BSN. I would love to have any feedback about the program.
  16. I doubt they will hold the past against you like that. I have talked with admissions at NYU,Columbia and other top tier schools in my area and they really want people who can show initiative and passion now. That is why they have second degree programs. I think if you make your face known at the schools your interested in and go talk with these people before you even do your pre-reqs you'll be happily surprised. They can be brutally honest and tell you that you are better off at a community college or let you know that you should apply to their school on the contingency that your grades get up in the first semester. You don't know unless you talk to the people who make these decisions.
  17. if you become a nurse through a hospital program they may pay for the education and give you a job when you get out. Some hospitals are so hard up that they'll even give you a stipend. Check out hospital nursing websites, talk to someone in their Human resources depts. They will steer you in the right direction.
  18. Wow! I can't believe how similar our situations are. I was a Soc major graduated in '98. GPA in the toilet. Now I'm looking into BSN programs in New York - sooooo expensive and competitive. I will do the pre-reqs before applying to show a better attitude toward learning.
  19. Abraham Lincoln failed at everything he ever tried to do. Failed as a business man, failed at a run for governor, failed at multiple runs for Congress. He is now remembered as one of, if not THE greatest president this nation has ever known because he was able to keep the country together. And he had a disability. Your situation is a minor setback. Roll up your sleeves and get in there and show them what you can do. If this is your dream - and you said it is for "as long as you can remember" - then don't let them stop you. Smile and do the the bullcrap assignment they gave you. Then keep going on. The actual job of Nursing itself will have setbacks too. Maybe this is just a test.
  20. I'm considering nursing as a second career. I graduated from college 7 years ago and my grades weren't that great. Do you guys have any tips or feedback about Pace, NYU or College of New Rochelle's second degree programs? Can you do the prerequisites anywhere?
  21. does Columbia even have the BSN accelerated program anymore. From their website it seems as if you must join their joint degree program? Does anyone have any feedback on CNR (College of New Rochelle's Accelerated program?
