Hrsa 08-09 Nursing Scholarship
Hey does anyone know when we'll receive our W2s or are they available online because from what I understand that money is taxable and we're paying federal taxes on it so it should definitely be included on our taxes...and I know for me it will increase my refund by about $3000 so I'm interested to see when we'll get them. Hopefully it doesn't take as long as everything else has...any old people know how this works and a timeframe? Thanks guys :wink2:

Hrsa 08-09 Nursing Scholarship
Yeah I talked to Ms. Joyner like 2 months ago and she told me to go ahead and send in the paperwork because I had to close my old account...so I don't think it was a matter of me changing it I think it's more if they actually put it in like they were supposed to at this point. I was really trying to see if everyone had their already so I'd know how worried to be...And believe me I have been ringing their phones off the hook and gotten no answers.

Hrsa 08-09 Nursing Scholarship
OK so has everyone gotten their payments??? I keep checking my bank account and still nothing. Mind you i changed my banking information after I had been awarded and sent the necessary paperwork to Ms. Joyner but with the unorganized nature of this program I am starting to wonder if that has something to do with it. Anybody???

Hrsa 08-09 Nursing Scholarship
It is amazing how nobody at my school seems to know anything about this scholarship...the one person that had heard of it said she can't believe I got it because only one other student she knew of had applied and she didn't get it. It's making it a pain trying to get these papers filled out. Not to mention it's like they don't want you to get the money...If the government is gonna pay for anything my motto is just let them pay.ERRRR:yawn:

Hrsa 08-09 Nursing Scholarship
It was in there when I checked the mail today...I was so happy to actually have it in writing! The only question I still have is about our tuition for this semester. Mine is already paid but my cost of attendance is so high at my school that I can still invoice NSP and not be over my limit...I'm curious to see how they handle this if they'll send the money to the school and the school give me a refund to pay back my loans and stuff.

Hrsa 08-09 Nursing Scholarship
Hey did anybody else who got the scholarship get another email today explaining the payments and stuff? I got it and have yet to get the actual written letter.

Hey carebear I think maybe you should take that actual email down...I'm not being mean but with everyone waiting on pins and needles about this scholarship I can only imagine her office being flooded with phonecalls because all of her info is on there..just a heads up.

Hrsa 08-09 Nursing Scholarship
Hey just an FYI to everyone waiting...I did speak with someone at HRSA last week (still don't know how helpful this is because they seem as in the dark as us:) and he told me that they are making awards right now so you should be notified by mail if you receive it and if not they'll notify you in October. This sounded to me as if they won't be updating the status online but rather sending letters. Hope this helps a little with everyone's twenty minute checking of HRSAs website (if you're like me that is)

Hrsa 08-09 Nursing Scholarship
I looked at mine and I don't have a link either...I'm assuming this is not for everyone because in previous years posts they never asked for this. Maybe it's if they are unfamiliar with the program you're enrolled in then they'll ask for this.

Mine says the same thing...I'm really hoping decisions have been made one way or the other...I am so tired of waiting and checking my status like 20 times a day!!

C in pathophysiology
I have done the unthinkable(well in terms of CRNA acceptance). I made a C in patho which I had to take my first semester of nursing school over the summer. I really don't have an excuse the class was just really difficult for me and finding that way of studying that works for you while trying to understand really hard material just got the best of me. I'm really confident I can pull As and Bs the next 4 semesters but I wonder if that will crush my chances. And just FYI I live in MS and I attend UMC which has a CRNA program affiliated with UAB and that's where I am thinking about applying along with UT-memphis, OLOL, and LSU...thanks for any input from ANYONE!!!

Hrsa 08-09 Nursing Scholarship
As far as the service obligation is concerned look on their website under FAQs and choose the one about service obligation. I checked it out the other day and from what I can gather almost any hospital is considered critical shortage for the purposes of the scholarship so you pretty much choose where you wanna work with the exception of private clinics and such. Anyways just check it out and if you still have questions then email the hrsa about it...no need in living in poverty (as I am right now thanks to nursing school:)) without all the facts. Just my:twocents:

Has anyone taking AP I and AP II in same semester
Hey it's possible...I just did it this past fall along with botany and pulled As and Bs. All this while applying to NS. And I got in and will be starting in May so don't shortchange yourself. If you want it bad enough you won't allow yourself to not do your best. And as far as that building on stuff you get from A&P I, I saw that happen maybe once and when it does you use the same book so just look it up. Anywho...good luck to you in whatever decision you decide to make :)

For all of us who are sweating bullets waiting on acceptance/rejection letters...
:p:p:p:pI FINALLY got my letter yesterday for the BSN program starting in May at University of Mississippi Med Center!! Not much time to prepare but so glad I got in on the first try...I just want to let anyone on these boards know that you don't have to have a 4.0 to get into NS. I did it with about a 3.2, great references, and a kick butt essay. So don't get discourages just go for it!

A Couple Questions
I too am interested in becoming a CRNA and would rather do it over being an anesthesiologist because of hours and quality of life. I love the prospect of anesthesia and being able to deliver it a lower cost to people who need it. But what is starting to bother me is that becoming a CRNA is hard enough as is without having to pretend the entire time that you just want to be an RN. I have nothing against being an RN and I know I will like the job otherwise I wouldn't have chosen this route. But I think people should stop discouraging people from talking about the profession as if its the plague. It's like the mere mentioning of CRNA makes people run and think you just want money. Some of us have researched the field and this is the reason we are going in to nursing and it's nothing wrong with that. It won't make us any less of a nurse just because it's not our ultimate career goal. I hope my post doesn't offend anyone, I just want more people to be CRNAs and not be dissuaded by those whose goal is becoming an RN because they are different. Neither is better or worse than the other, they are just different.

The Right Path [?]
There are a lot of good nursing schools in houston, but the problem is that some of them you have to take your pre-reqs elsewhere. So you're actually in a good position. Look at the websites of UThouston, TWU, HBU, and prairie view(all in texas med center and BSN programs) and any others you might be interested in and find their requirements. Then go to your advisor and plan our your courses so you are able to apply a semester before you finish them. Right now just focus on those pre-reqs and getting excellent grades in them.

PVAMU-Fall 2007
I know this is weird but I was wondering what your last name was. I don't know how you pronounce it but i knew a girl from Mississippi whose name sounded like yours but i don't know how she spelled it.

PVAMU-Fall 2007
Everyone who said PV is unorganized is right. I just got a letter saying I was denied acceptance but it was based on me not showing TASP scores (from which i was exempt and they knew this) and them not having my NET scores (which everyone knows we took there and they have a copy of). This irks me so much because I called numerous times to check if my file was complete and they said yes. So i'm really upset about this and cannot wait until Monday morning.

Tarrant County College Acceptance Letters
hey texasspadequeen, i am sorry you didn't get into the school of your choice. i never see many people post about prairie view son but i applied there for the fall and i know they take apps every semester so if all else fails, you could try them for spring and you'll most likely get it. they go by requirements. if you have all pre-reqs completed and meet the minimum gpa requirements, then you're in. just a thought.

Fall 2007 nursing school applicants
I keep getting stuff from PV main campus saying my file is incomplete because I turned in all my info to the college of nursing as I was instructed to do. When I called them, they said the SON would send it to them eventually. Their procedures are weird. Let me know what you did. Thanks
