North/Northeast Houston neighborhoods!! Help!
Tapple, Humble, Texas (NE of Houston) has Northeast Hermann Memorial Hospital. However the traffic around Humble is crazy during rush hour. This side of town is entirely too congested. They need to widen the roads to make room for all the growth on this side. I would recommend checking around Conroe, Texas, if you want a country type atmosphere. Its just north of houston on I-45. A short commute would include Conroe's hospital, the Woodlands Hosp. and also Houston Northwest . Good luck!

LVN programs in Houston and a Dilemma
SeekingNur, I'm not really answering your question. But since your ultimate goal is to obtain your RN, you may try looking at evening classes or a part time program to reach your goal. I know Kingwood College has an evening program for students that need to work. Also, many schools will let you go part time once accepted into the program. When there's a will... there's a way! Don't give up. FYI, I was told (by an HR recruiter) that once you get a round of clinicals completed you are very marketable for a Tech or Clerk job at the major hospitals in Houston (some positions starting ~$15.00/hr with benefits, including tuition reinbursement). So you may consider working at the hospitals part/full time and also go to school. It can be done.... it may not be easy, but it can be done. Good luck with everything.

Just accepted--question about clinicals/program
Congrats! I completed my prereq's at Lee, so I know a many of the nursing students have gone there. I would recommend trying to find some current students, Allnurse.com does not have many/ if any posts about Lee. The President of the Nursing Club at Lee is a wonderful person; if you can get ahold of her, I know she would be more than willing to answer any of your questions. I would also suggest that you find which instructors to take. From what I have heard, there are some instructors that are less desireable (not sure which ones). Last year there were students that camped out at the school to be first in line to register for classes..... I find this crazy, but they wanted to ensure they had a particular instructor. Many of my friends have been happy with the program, but also emphasize it is unorganized (but I think many RN programs are unorganized). -MJ

PVAMU-Fall 2007
Ketcia, Do you suggest us getting all the books on the recommended list at PV? Or are there some books that are just a waste of time/money? Thanks

PVAMU-Fall 2007
Ketcia........ thanks for the information! and Congrads! You made me estatic about the program! Im excited! What hospitals does PV normally use for clinicals? are they in/outside of the medical center? Also, did many people use Park and Ride? Is there anything such as laptop or PDA that you would recommend? or something that helped you! Thanks again!

PVAMU-Fall 2007
Im sorry to hear that.... you must be stressed out, I know I would be! I hope you resolve this tomorrow and get accepted. I would like to know what their reasoning is for not having your NET scores if you took it at PV?

PVAMU-Fall 2007
adam... thanks for the reply. one sad thing about nursing school is the high drop out rate. it is so hard to get in, and then for some reason or another many cannot complete the courses. lee college (where i took my prereq's) also has an adn program. last year they accepted ~120 students, and by the end of the first semester they were down to ~80 students. that is a huge drop. so i would expect pv will be accepting (+/-)100 students. but i am not sure.... if anyone has more information about pvamu please speak up.... inquiring minds want to know. i only found 1 good (old) thread on pvamu, but there was not much info. thanks

PVAMU-Fall 2007
Adam, Are you saying there are only going to be ~30 of us in the program? or were you meaning about 30 per classroom? What all do you know about the program and instructors? I am really curious and excited to know!

PVAMU-Fall 2007
What a roller coaster. They also lost my application fee... I am thinking the program is going to be more organized; it has to be. Does anyone have any information about PVAMU's nursing program to let us know what to expect?

PVAMU-Fall 2007
Hello to all... I just received my acceptance letter to Prairie View (Fall 2007).... I am so excited! Has anyone else received letters of acceptance to their program? I would love to find other classmates. Also, is there anyone out there currently in the program or who just completed the program that can give me some pointers? Thanks
