A nurse walked out 1 1/2 hours into her shift because a friend of hers also working that day, was terminated. This nurse gathered her things, did a narc count with management and clocked out. Is this nurse guilty of job abandonment? Where can I find ...

I just accepted a position as DON. Very excited and TERRIFIED! LOL.. This is at a new facility. I am currently the ADON at a 102 skilled bed facility. The new facility is roughly the same size. I was offered a 28% increase in salary.
I am currently in the ADON position for a LTC with a maximum bed number around 108. I have been in this position for 10 months. I started as the night RN in charge in January and was offered the position in May. Previously I was a staff RN for a leve...

Luckily I too work at a place where it is very rare for the nurses to call off. The CNA's are definately a different story. But when I took this ADON position they were "running the show", calling off all the time. Seriously, one of the CNA's has ...

OH! and by being witness i pretty much know how to "NOT" budget effectively. LOL....sorry burn. I think in the position I have been in, I have learned a lot of "what not to do's" my DON is not very informative and does not own up to any mistakes,...
Thanks so far for the responses. My official interview is now set up for next Thursday. Can anyone else think of any more good questions to ask? As a reply to an earlier response, I do not feel that I am at all knowledgeable in the plan of correc...
It is a "Mandatory" 5 month preceptorship/orientation with classes and homework and floor time that is designed to ease you into the scenery. There are many things to know in there and sometimes it can be a little un nerving. Better to be prepared....
I started there 1 year ago and went through their 5 months of orientation out of nursing school. I has been a wealth of experience. I think I have seen and been a part of everything I have ever learned about in nursing school and THEN A WHOLE LOT M...

First of all this never came to mind when I heard the word "fracture" but apparently it happens! I have had two patients with this diagnosis and the last one being the "funniest"? I had a male patient come in and states, "My penis is HUGE!" I take...
Congratulations on your interview! Since I am not sure how to paste all the threads on here, I will just say that if you go to search and put in "interview tips" you should be able to find the information that way. I too graduate in May. Our school s...
Brenda, I have heard the same facts too. I think this case is somewhat different given the fact that she stats at 70's anyway and had no change in her LOC at that time. She was used to that level and only has ONE lung, so there is no way she wo...
Sorry if there are more posts to this comment. But I had to say something. Apparently COPD is not something you are very familiar with because giving a patient with COPD more than 2.5lpm of O2 will take away their stimulus to breathe. Chronic COPD...
I shadowed a position at Barnes a couple weeks ago and when I talked to the supervisor she said they just started a new program that pays for your entire BSN (including books) at BJCON. There is a limit on how many they accept, she said they had 20 ...
Hello all!! I am currently in my final semester of an ADN program in Illinois. YEAH! Finally the "light at the end of the tunnel!" I am married with 2 children ages 7 and 5, and one step son who is 9. I currently work at a local hospital...
WOW...$27-30/hr!!! I am moving up there! I am in southern Illinois, 30 miles out of St. Louis, and Barnes only pays RN's $18/hr. That is a crazzzy difference!
