  1. it took me 6 years to get into the mother/baby unit I'm at now. I just kept applying and was willing to flexible with my schedule. Take some courses on breastfeeding, infant care, etc. to show them your interested. It will happen for you!! Just keep trying. Don't give up!!
  2. how to you feel about rotating between postpartum, nursery, and labor and delivery? I have done postpartum and nursery, but not labor and delivery. I must say it makes me nervous. What do you think?
  3. get him to another facility asap!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  4. this attitude is exactly why we have babies born with respiratory problems, and other transitional problems. A c-section should be used only as necessary and NOT for the convenience and appearance of the vain mother!!!!
  5. It is standard policy in ltc facilities to suspend "pending investigation". I think it is a state wide policy. After the investigation is complete and their are "no findings" you will be reinstated with pay for the days you were suspended.
  6. what do all of the mother/baby nurses out there think of a rn with 11 years med/surg/tele experience coming to mother baby unit?
  7. when I was in nursing school we started out with 120 students and only 32 graduated. Only 1 was male.
  8. you have to be happy doing whatever you love, no matter how much money you make. I told my interviewer for my nicu position that I would work for free because I love the babies, and I did love the job. Go with what you really want to do. Good luck
  9. I only had three days as a new grad in long term care. very sad
  10. I work the night shift and always do my assessments after shift report. I don't want to sound mean, but I don't ask permission, I just introduce myself and do my assessment. I mean this is a hospital not the hilton hotel so they should not expect to be undisturbed from 11p to 7a. I would not wait until later because you never know what the last shift has left for you. I have had tons of people I shipped to icu within the first hour because they looked like crap when I went into assess them. Our evening shift does our MARs so they are ready when we get there.
  11. I have 3 children 10, 7, and 4. I work weekend option (sat, sun 12 hour nights) I am there during the week for school activities and homework. Works great for childcare purposes although every weekend stinks!!!
  12. I had one on once and we were short staffed and I had an alzheimers pt fall and hit his head on the wall. They tried to say that I didn't answer the call light for 45 minutes. I knew that I had checked the time before I went in there and I charted accordingly. The floor eventually got rid of the tracking devices. They are not helpful in the least bit!!!
  13. I get called into work extra EVERY single day that I am off and it gets annoying because when I am scheduled for 12 hr nights I work my butt off. I never answer the phone when they are calling. Do not feel guilty about it or you will burn out really fast!!
  14. I have noticed many cna's and even nurses using ipods at work, even wearing them in patients rooms. half the time you can't even get their attention. does anyone else have a problem or concern with this?
