Looks great to me. Good work experience, good GPA. I think your GPA is probably a bit above average. Why do you have to relocate for CRNA? I thought Westminister had a program.

I am not aware of any unions in Utah for nurses.

If you don't tell them that. An edge in hiring? No. An edge in experience? Yes. :lol2:. . . . . .No, sadly. Working as a CNA is optional. The roles are quite different. I did and I'm glad I did just to be in the environment of a nurse if nothing else. Helps to put that you are a CNA on a nursing school app, though. Apply to all that interest you. If a school doesn't interest you, it's probably not a good idea to apply just to save a year or two. Plus, many times schools with shorter waiting lists=more $$$, so it may not be financially a better move. Make sure whatever school you choose is NLNAC accredited. Otherwise, going for Bachelors could be a problem. Besides that, no one cares where you went to school that is hiring for the most part. I used to to hiring in my last job and all I cared about is if they had an active license. Where they went to school didn't cross my mind. You could work another part time job in the interim and make extra money, working and nursing school is hard. Good luck!

Why not apply to both, then you can go to the first one to accept you.

I had a friend who did that program for a couple of months. He didn't like any of the supervisors of the program and dropped out.

I would guess the % of Mormon to non- Mormon ratio would be about 50% in Ogden. I don't think you'll find any disadvantages not being a Mormon in the workplace. But I guess you never know how your boss is going to be. . Seriously though, any discrimination in the workplace could get someone in a lot of hot water. I've never noticed any problems, though.

Here's a couple of places to start. Mckay-Dee hospital-check out ihc.com Ogden Regional-an hca facility. Both are fairly large hospitals. If hospital nursing is what you're after, this should help.

As long as it is accredited, you're probably okay. HOWEVER, the hospital I work for takes graduates from online schools if no one else applies. Basically they are put to the bottom of the hiring list. I don't know how many other hospitals do the same thing. I guess the moral of the story is I would try to avoid an online school, but I'm sure you will have a successful career either way, it may be a little harder finding a job, though.

I went to Weber State. It was a great program. At the time there was no waiting list, they accepted based on a point system, but I understand they are a waiting list system now. I have a friend who is on the waiting list for SLCC. 2 yrs. 18 mos to 2 yrs is what I am hearing is average!!!

I did a few clinical shifts on the womens floor at Davis hospital in Layton. I was impressed by the staff there. I did my precepting on their Med/Surg floor. Loved it as well. So if Layton is where you're looking, Davis isn't a bad choice. I just started at McKay in Ogden. So far it has gone well. Not far from Layton. If you want to work in a bigger hospital, go to Mckay. If you want a community hospital feel, go to Davis. And I second the post above. Working agency before you have at least one year experience is not the best thing for your career, unless you like livin on the edge.
