New nurse with old academic history haunting me. Chances of admission to ADN-ARNP?
Medic, Your past GPA is/ will hurt you. A BSN would give you the chance to bring your GPA up significantly. It is not that difficult to get a high 3 or even 4.0/4.0 GPA in a RN to BSN program if you do what they ask you to do. In my personal opinion that should absolutely increase your chances of getting in to a graduate program. Also in my personal opinion you need to get nursing experiences during that time. I am also surprised that you have problems finding a prn job as a nurse. You already know people in the ED, start networking when bringing in pt to the ED, talk to your medical director from the Fire Department,…. That was how I got my first job, I pointed out that I just took the NCLEX to the ED nursing director. Nobody had even an idea that I was in nursing school. The rest was just formality with HR. Of Course I do not know what your furlough days are but I now numerous Paramedics working on a fire department and also have a part or even full time schedule in the ED as a RN (I was one of them). Good luck!

Help i missed my license renewal
I agree with the above, stop working until you talk to the BON via phone or in person to get the issue resolved. Also inform your employer asap. If you go to work you are causing a whole other set of problems for yourself and the employer!

Retaking hesi entrance exam next month
I used a book from the nursing library, if I remember correctly it was the same that you have mentioned above. I guess my question to you is what score to you need? I am surprised that a 79% is not good enough I was a bit better I think in the mid 80's but had no problems with acceptance in a very competitive environment as all my pre-requisites were A's. Good luck, and be positive as you will do it! You have already improving between the first and the second time.

I am currently stationed in Germany as a RN with the US Army. I applied in November for all and any position and took the first one which was offered to me. My first workday in Germany was Feb 15. They requested an earlier move but I needed an extra few weeks to get everything done.. Greetings from Germany :)

I'm a Filipina Naturalized Citizen - Can I get a job at the VA ?
I am confused... You write "Technically, I'm not a US Citizen in terms of voting and Social Security"... so you are a legal alien not naturalized US citizen? If you are a legal resident (alien) you can not work at the VA, if you have or can get a US passport ( or one could say being a US citizen) you can work for the VA.

What certifications do you have?
confusedstudent_88 , ACLS or PALS are likely worth getting as a student as it shows your future employer that you took imitative, but do not worry about too many cert’s at this time, I rather would like to recommend you that you get experiences volunteering like at your local vol. fire department, medical reserve corps and so on to build your resume. My cert’s include CEN, CPEN, RN-BC, NR Paramedic, State EMS Instructor, CCT cert classes include BLS (I), ACLS (I), PALS (I), TNCC (I), AHLS (I), ABLS,... Hazmat ops, FF, ICS incl. 300, 400 levels, CBRNE, balloon pump class and so on

Not getting any patients assigned at end of preceptorship
Usually, a nurse needs experiences in med-surge or other area before starting to work in the ED. Than they have months of training and orientation. Or if they are a New Grad one does usually a one year internship :) So, do not worry...does that help? You should ask for feedback from your preceptor how your doing and progressing :)

Need help with resume and cover letter
Some thoughts... "Certified EKG- expires may 2012" What is that for a cert as I have worked for 12 years in Cardiology and never have been Certified EKG, I am certified as a Certified Cardiocraphic Technologist aka CCT as a credential, but that is not a class. Also it is expired...you could write something like trained in reading EKG's. " Certified Phlebotomist- expires May 2012" ...so you are not certified anymore, write experience in Phlebotomy... or renew your certification ( I have numerous certifications in different areas of medicine, not only nursing, never know when they come in handy :) ). Also agree with wandering's comments. Get some Volunteer experiences as a nurse, local fire department (depending on state protocolls), hospitals, medical reserve corps and so on. Just my thoughts!

As a naturalized US citizen YOU ARE A US CITIZEN, so absolutley. You can only not become the next president, other than that you have the same rights and responsibility as any other citizen. Just make sure your school is NLN or CCNE.

Kdazzle, I agree, we spend so much time on the paperwork and think so much about the resume, the 9 questions, the recommendations,...that it would be very sad not to get in.

Questions you should have asked your recruiter?
Sorry for this late "THANK YOU" RNdriver. I was just reading your old posts and your journey/ difficulty joining. Have you ever found out why the board missed you the first time? So, are you coming in as a O3? Congrats!!! I am so happy for you. Did you get in to the ED, what location? Thanks again!

Hello kdazzle, Consistently low platelet count ( aka ITP "stable"for the past 20plus years) which I knew I will need a waiver for...but afterMEPS it sounded like all was fine until they got the CBC results from that day.Well, I just talked to my recruiter who was even more surprised than I was. Heis calling the AF Surgeon Generals Office to see what is going on. (I am inGermany, and that’s why it went to the AF Surgeon General) Sorry about all your problems, you should have priority this time (my feelings;) do you mind sharing with us some of your info...school, certs, work area
