RE; Nurse educator HELPPPP
I am a RN who graduated in 2003, went directly to a ADON position due to having 24 years in management before nursing. I was trained in this position. I am now trying to get into hospital nursing, since i feel i missed out on many things. The hospitals want me to take a refresher coorifice. I have been out of nursing for two years. Refresher coorifices i thought werwe for people out many years. I have not forgotten stuff, just never worked in a hospital. These are tree and four month classes.I thought when you applied for a job, you were taught on the job, not have to go back to school and clinicals again. Please advise.Zar

RE: New RN positions
What are some good questions to ask an employer when i interview. I just became a R.N. this week?? What units do you think are ok to start on? I have applied to a trauma one hospital. They have a critical care 24 week intership, that qualifies me to work everywhere for critical care, as long as i work for them a year. Thoughts please.Zar

RE: Critical care internship
I am a new RN this past week, and i have checked into the trauma one hospital as far as what they offer. They offer a 24-26 week intership for critical care, after which you can work icu, ccu, step downs, surgical icu etc. It is free if you agree to work there for one year, otherwise it is out of this world for pricing. What are your thoughts about this???Zar

failed nclex
You have no reason to be humiliated. No matter how much you study or how good you were in school, prepares you for the nclex in my opionion. If you are stressed, if your mind is somewhere else, if you over studied, if you tried to read into questions, if you forget strategies you will fail. There are many reasons to fail. Has nothing to do with being dumb, or stupid nor a bad nurse.I took the test several times. My scores wer 86,265,265,75 and 75. You can fail at 75 does not mean you passed at all. 265 means you were border line however. I never gave up and i was a LPN for 6 years. Every time i did the test i froze, maybe frightened of it i do not know why exactly. I knew the material but drew a load of blanks.I had folks tell me give up, it was not meant to be etc. Bull. Giving up is easy, hanging in there is the struggle. You will pass and you can do this. I also am not in my twenties, lost some brain cells there haha...so you will do it to. Rest assured the best will happen for you. I passed nclex and i am proud that it taught me alot along the way. Never, ever give up and never let it get you down.Dust yourself off, no more pity party and change your strategy. I am rooting for you and if i can help, e mail me private. You will make a great R.N.Zar

TIPS/Info for passing NCLEX
Read your books.Find a quiet place to do it. Forget about dinners on time and wash. Forget about baking for the kids and cleaning the house.Learn all the meds and side effects you can. Submitt to some nursing journals to start thinking like a nurse. Get used to a few hours of sleep and be ready for everyone you know to get pissed off because they have not heard from you. Sleep now, you will not do much in school. You will see meds marching across your eyes, you will swear a care plan was invented by the devil himself. Get ready to gain weight, snacking on the run and while studying is a biggie! But, in the end you will make it. Buy some good nclex books they will help you with your studies and at the same time, prepare for the nclex. Zar

I failed the nclex exam. From those of you who passed, what did you use as your rule of thumb to answer prioritizing questions and delegation?

Any advise you could give
Good luck in your endevours. If i can do it at 50 so can you. My advice is mouth closed, ears open, do not be a know it all, and tell them when you do not know how to do a procedure. Patient safety first and last!Know your drugs, do your work on time, take each day as it comes.Practice taking books to the bathroom, because that will be the only time you will have a spare minute to read some stuff. Set up a study schedule and stick to it. If you are a clean freak, forget it for two years. Tell friends they can visit if they bring a pot luck dinner and forget the definition of a mop, you will not remember what they look like. Dust is not a foreign object, it will be quite normal.Keep good notes, tape record lectures to replay and sit in the front of the class. That way you pay attention and not watch everyone else. Most of all, tell your hubby you will have a headache most nights haha...had to throw that one in, right gang?

RE: Help with failed boards
I failed boards with 75 questions. I cried my eyes out last night. I am a LPN for six years, finished nursing school and yet failed the RN boards. First exam i ever failed in my life, or even got a bad grade. I am 51 maybe my study skills are wrong for this. Any advise would be so appreciated. Took boards in PA. Thanks!
