Leaving Bedside Nursing
I just wish patients and families knew where to truly direct their frustration (which is not at the bedside nurse). It's with the Administration who thinks that it's ok to consistently short staff and under hire the appropriate number of clinical staff needed to "effectively" give our pts. our BEST. We're never allowed to tell pts/families that we're short staff, or that our other pts. are "total cares" with no tech, or that you have a confused pt. in another room that is a continuous danger to himself and any injury he sustains will be blamed on you and your poor supervision of him, or the fact that you have "pain" pts that demand your presence every 30mins.....You have to hold all that in while being professional, skilled, compassionate, prompt, responsive and thorough....All when Admin is sitting in an office chair thinking of another "false assurance task" they can come up with for their short staff nurses to do. I takes a toll, believe me! I've been a nurse for 23yrs and thank God I found a specialty that keeps my love for nursing and pt. advocacy alive. I had to get AWAY from floor nursing though because between pt & family nurse abuse, doctors who could care less and greedy admin, it's definitely taking a turn for the worst.

The University of Texas at Arlington
I agree! I'm experiencing that same "I don't give a D*#N" Attitude from my Academic Advisor. She's always so unavailable and never answers/returns my calls (she may respond every now and then to an email). She is not encouraging AT ALL to be an advisor. It has caused me to postpone starting the program several times because I feel I wont get the support and "Advice" I undoubtedly will need throughout the program. What keeps be interested is the price! It's very difficult to find a program that has a set price for the combined nursing portion of the program. I plan to actually start this month with 1 class and see how it goes then maybe pick up more next session. I'll also look into taking some of my needed general classes at a CC to cut down on the costs because I see that's where UTA is getting folks.

Best online RN to BSN program....CHEAP?
As far as UTA goes...I was very excited about the program until I met my advisor. She was very UNhelpful and rarely available to answer my questions and give the necessary quidance I needed being that online high learning was VERY new to me. My interaction with the campus has been so stressful that I'm currently seeking out another school to obtain by BSN degree...just my experience

UTA Online Academic Partnership BSN Program - Dallas Hospitals
Just a brief comment on UTA's Advisors....YES, they ARE pitiful. I recently enrolled this past Fall and I have had a HORRIBLE time getting my Advisor on the phone to answer my questions or provide me with the needed information to get me on the road to my BSN smoothly. She seems to have no concern with whether or not I succeed. I have found myself on the verge of going to another school however the low program cost and fact that I'm already enrolled is currently over shadowing the lack of advisory support.:-S

"size of the paycheck"
I would say... " Oh really, well then YOU should go back to school and get YOUR RN because that would be a shame for your to know all that I know and settle for less pay, that's just not right..." ( in a subtle sarcastic tone of course lol). Truthfully, there's no excuse for someone to "posture" against you when you're new and hadn't yet done anything to deserve the immediate disrespect.

lazy cnas
The bottom line is this...we all have our job description and the opportunity to return higher our education to change our titles if we don't like what our current job requires. I was a CNA...felt unappreciated & overworked so I went to school and became an LVN. As an LVN I felt undervalued and disregarded at times so I went back to school and gt my BSN. The medical profession has increasingly become an overwhelming entity over the years, we're ALL swaped in our daily tasks. Nurses are busy, CNAs are busy..but I'll say what I'm sure we've all heard many many times....I can do YOUR job, but you can't do MINE. So I need a CNA who understands that a eventhough you're in the middle of making a bed...when another pt. needs help to the bathroom, that bed CAN and SHOULD wait. I truly believe ion teamwork but some CNAs will take advantage and do less...That has been my experience.

lazy cnas
I honestly believe that it is a growing trend acrosss the states that CNAs/PCTs are becoming lazier & lazier. Many hate that someone of similar or younger age have some authority over them. Many have no since of what task takes priority over another, only which is the easiest to do. I work with some GREAT and some LAZY CNAs on a regular basis and ultimatey I have decided to leave my current employer and work somewhere where people still have great work ethic & integrity....life will be so much sweeter

How much difference in pay do two year rn's get than four yr??
A BSN only means you finished the "REQUIREMENTS" deamed necessary to acquire a BSN degree. IT DOES NOT NECESSARILY MEAN THAT NURSE IS A BETTER NURSE" I've worked with many BSN degree RNs who just happened to be good nurses "in theory" but do nothing to advance their performance, update their "applied skills", or demonstrate TRUE knowledge in the areas they work in. An RN is only as good as or as knowledgeable as they WANT to be because learning doesn't stop with completing a 4 year degree program. So I take offense as a 2year degree RN when you imply that pts. some how get a "lesser" nurse.

Using College Network to move ahead
Unfortunately, I went through The College Network as well and I felt it was a COMPLETE waste of money! First of all, The College Network uses very slick wording that is intended to make people think that they are affiliated with Excelsior College, when in fact, Excelsior College has nothing to do with their study guides. I recently graduated from Excelsior and can definitely say that after every test, I left feeling like NOTHING I had read or learned in the guide was on the test. What I ended up realizing is....the BEST thing for me was to pay for the Excelsior practice tests for each course and let THAT guide you as to what you need to focus on or research (on your own)...I could have passed all my tests w/o ever opening TCN's materials. They prey on the fears of new students not knowing what to expect....just my experience

CPNE Failure
Im preparing for my first ( and hopefully last) CPNE and I hear a lot said about a grid. What exactly is this grid that I should stick to. Also has anyone ever taken the CPNE workshop. I take in 2 days and do to family issues, have not been able to go through the study guide much. Is the workshop about teaching or do they expect you to know it already?
