  1. hey everyone for the usa group.. I am applying there for the fall... did you use the recommendation form they listed, or have people write letters? Ive already asked the doctors I work with to write letters, I feel stupid going back and asking them to fill out a fill in the blank! Also, do you have to go on campus at all? If so, for how long? Thanks.
  2. Cutiedeer... I loved UVA! I almost took a permanent position had it not been for my husbands transfer. UVA is very good to their nurses. I learned so much there. I think there is a higher standard for their nurses (just speaking from other places Ive been). They really want their nurses to be critical thinkers, quick on your feet, independent. It is a regional facility, so we have 23weekers to 6mo there with trachs, echmo, surgeries including cardiac, bowel, etc. I really liked having all the specialties in one place. The docs are super smart with a fun loving spirit (I thought). [PM for name] is the nurse manager, cant say enough about how great she is... she has been in at 2am when we were drowning some nights, she really helps out the nurses. The staff are super cool, with a laid back attitude but very smart. I cant remember much about your transports, our teams never really talked about the other facilities that I remember. Depending on your level of NICU, UVA would probably be a step up! I definitely recommend it! Good luck!
  3. I know you dont want VA, but UVA in Charlottesville VA was EXCELLENT!! I was a travel nurse for 2 years and went back to UVA twice! As far as NC... Ive heard good things about Wake Med (very hard to get a job bc retention is so good), also CMC. South Carolina.. I loved MUSC in Charleston.. beautiful weather, great docs and nurses to work with, always something to do. San Diego Childrens is beautiful too! Good luck in deciding!
  4. Hi fellow nurses... I have been asked to speak at a conference on the topic death of infants in the NICU. I would like to get your input in order to better my presentation. 1. What are your thoughts and feelings regarding a death of your patient (baby). 2. What are any concerns you see that could smooth the process for staff and families? 3. Do you feel responsible? If so, how do you process the thoughts and find relief? 4. What suggestions do you have for staff to better prepare for a death? 5. When should ethics committees step in? Do you believe in ethics committees? Your experience with them? Any other comments, suggestions, issues, etc. would be appreciated. Thank you in advance for taking the time to answer.
  5. I found it helpful to talk to a Respiratory Therapist.. if you have access to one. If not, any nursing book should have it..look in the RT sectio nof the library or Barnes and Noble... Good Luck!
  6. This is a very helpful thread. I am currently looking to go back to school, online vs. classroom. Still debating. This helps!!! Thanks everyone!
  7. Is it really that bad? Im looking to go back to school, and you make NP sound like a chore? Ive been used to 3 12s a week... is it hard to transition to m-f?
  8. Hey everyone, new here, in Fayetteville... military reasons, from VA originally. 6 years in NICU/PICU. Looking to go back to school for PNP if anyone has any advice, its welcomed!
  9. Hi there, We are looking to relocate to MI. We are looking at Traverse City, Ann Arbor areas... any advice? comments? on the hospitals in these areas? Any other areas we should look? We want to buy land and build a house, and my husband is originally from MI. Thanks!
  10. A lot of the online programs do not require GRE.
  11. If your petite.. urbane is great they also have talls.. just get the xxs pants. I wear a 2-4 pant regularly, so it depends on your size and the way you like them to fit. Urbane is wide leg, basic scrub style, tie at the waist. Ive worn dickies before but if you have a little junk in the trunk..(like me) then they suck, they pucker in the front and they also shrink!
  12. WOW! Is that even legal? How do you just get an in service and become a nurse??? I would definitely be investigating.... thank God your sister went to the ER! She should confront her friend and tell her to never give medical advice again!
  13. I have 6 years NICU/PICU experience. I am debating online or not... do employers look at the "name" schools? Or does it matter? I saw a full online school Rush Univ. is that reputable? Im also torn as to do my MSN online, and maybe the PNP part on a campus... what are your thoughts?
  14. I am looking to go back to school and would like to know the pros and cons of NNP vs. PNP. Essentially I would like a family soon, so which route is better as far as hours, money, schooling etc.. Also, any advice on the GRE??? Im freaking out over this thing! My undergrad work was only average.. will they even look at me? I have 6 years experience will that help? Im just really anxious about getting into school, I know I could be focused and do a great job, unfortunately you dont get to say that until after theyve said yes to an interview! So what should I do?!?!?! HELP!
  15. Ok, so Im looking to go back to school. I need to know the pros and cons of NNP vs PNP. I would like to have a family one day... so, which is better time wise, money wise.... Also, any advice on the GRE??? How to study when you have no clue what you are doing!!! Im totally stressing about this! Plus I only have a 2.8 undergrad gpa... so will they even look at me? I cant help it I hated med surg and geriatrics!!!! (no offense out there, just not my thing). How do you portray your passion for continuing your education and do good in the world, when you suck at test taking?
