Trying to get into travel nursing......
I think traveling with only one year of experience is a bad idea. However, I will make you the exception because you have 7 years of experience of acute care under your belt. You will have to wait at least one year because most places want you to have 1-2 years of recent experience but I have seen nurses (just recently in CA) with just 12 months of experience hired as travelers. Don't become to picky on your first assignment. Go for a big hospital with lots of needs. Once you get your foot in the door and have the first assignment under your belt, it will be smooth sailing from there. Good Luck

Traveling assignment
No, there is something you can do about your contract! First of all, who are you with? Is this a travel company or a per-diem agency. Okay so here are your options. You call your recruiter and tell him or her you want to "AMMEND YOUR CONTRACT" and you will accept nothing less than 2000 monthly for your housing. Your stipend needs to reflect when your assisgment started. They should owe you money and you want to be paid ASAP and they should reimburse you for all that crap Kaiser wanted you to have. The reimbursement and housing are seperate.Do not let them talk that crap about "housing is expensive in CA". And if they refuse to do this. Quite the assisgnment immediately. You can find another company and recruiter easily.Especially CA where there is a travel nurse in every hospital. And there is no need for them to know you quite your first assignment.Just act like you are new to the game.Do your homework before you talk to another company. Please email and tell me what happens.

NurseChoice
I've worked with them on two seperate assisgments. One 7 week and the other 12 weeks. The pay is weekly and they pay a bonus of $100 a week but I choose to use that money for a rental car reimbursement ( that way they wil not take out taxes). I choose to fly and leave my car at home. That way you won't spend 2-3 days on the road. It should work out good for you. Take a 6-7 week assignment. You do work 4 days a week versus 3. The only downside is the housing and obtaining a license. . Hopefully you have a compact nursing license (that will give you more options)They will not place you in an apt unless you sign for a 13 week assisgnment. They place you in an extended stay hotel which I hated. Good Luck

california travel nursing questions
I did a quick assisgnment in the Bay Area the later part of last year. You work 4 days a week versus 3. My pay after taxes was $ 1300 a week. Not bad money. Yes, your friend is right. A nurse with your level of experience would make high 30's to low 40's. Not including shift/weekend.You sound young and ambitious.Go for it.

IEP planning notes
Wow..that is funny... Point Blank...If the students was not taking sz meds during school hours..Medicaid will not reimburse the school district...You can document all the Depokene and Tegretol in the world...But if they was to get audited and the school district has no records of a physician order to give meds during school hours. Somebody is in trouble...Plus someone has to give and document they gave it..Now if it was in there IEP that they receive meds during school hours or any type of nursing care ( trach care, g-tube feeds) and it was not true...Will that will be on them and not you b/c hopefully you was not the person who signed the ARD paperwork stating "yes I agree this child will get these types of services met while in school. Get a copy of your evaluations and maybe written recommendation from the special ed teacher or assistant principal...... Good luck.....

What was the strangest ???
Mine strangest was a mother who wanted to change the name of her child's father on her health records.I guess the biological father and the mom's boyfriend claimed the same child for many years and now she was being audited by the IRS. And the principal was like" Go ahead and change it to what ever she wants" And she got away with it too. Recieved an additional refund check for almost $9,000.

Need Advice
I know exactly how you feel... 9 times out of 10 its probably them...You will always have one or two GERMAPHOBIC teachers in your school......The best solution is to educate the teacher on the common cold and enlighten them on incubations periods. Be nice..try not to Confrontational. I would approach the teacher by stating that you have notice a trend with her students and you want to discuss some options ....If the teacher refuses or seems to think they have everything under control. Smile and let him or her know you are there as resouce. Whatever the case maybe..Do not take it personal!! Good Luck;)

Traveling to DC
I have two questions.... 1. I want to live in the Metro area and not Arlington,VA. What area would current or past travelers recommend for a young, single urban nurse? 2. I probably will be working at Childrens National. They always have a large need for travelers. I know these are red flag signs but I want to know about other travelers experience and opinions.

They quit on me!
I too have had this experience... I work with two companies (depending on the assignment) and it appears that one company cannot keep recruiters. They next time you get a phone with a recruiter talking about "I'm your new recruiter" Ask them about there experience as a recuiter and a recuiter with the company. I plan on taking my own advice...

First assignment is UCLA and living in Studio City???
You will love Studio City..Its a great location in LA. The traffic on I-110 is a mess and a half but I heard there is a train you can take that can get you to and from UCLA and other parts of the city. Everything you need is in walking distance.I forgot the name of the main street (I believe it Valencia or something like that) and you can really have fun on this one strip or take Laurel Canyon and you will find yourself right smack in the middle of Sunset Blvd/Beverly Center in 5 minutes. Trust me ...They placed you in a good area.. Good Luck

Daytona Beach Hospitals
Have you considered working as a RN for Volusia County Schools ..? I worked in Texas as a School Nurse before I moved back to FL .The schedule of a School Nurse works really well for a lot of moms. No weekends. No on-call. No fighting about who worked what holiday last year. You should be home no later than 4pm everyday...(and that is after you have picked up your kids). You have the same schedule as a teacher. That means Winter Break, Spring Break and Summer Vacations can be spent with your little ones. And the nicest part of all is that you still get paid, even in the summer when you are out on vaction. I tell you I miss those days.... "E"

Travel Nursing in Daytona Beach Florida
I can tell you a couple of things about Halifax........ The pay probably won't be high..expect nothing higher than $24. The hospital itself has expanded a lot over the past 10 years. They are now part of the same management company that runs Orlando Regional Medical Center (which is the first or second largest hospital group in Central FL). Personally,I would not work at Halifax unless they are offering some incentive or completion bonus no less than $3,000. Daytona is DEADtona but if you have family or close friends that will keep you entertained.Well go for it! Plus Orlando is 1 hour west and Jacksonville 1 hour north, so you can burn up the highways on your days off. DeLand Regional is managed by Florida Hospital and they are paying travelers $32/hour for a 13wk contract. Plus, its only 20 minutes outside of Daytona... "E"
