Hey, there. I would suggest getting all of your sciences done before applying and get that GPA up. I'm going to be done with nursing school in December and the hardest thing for most of my classmates was juggling the co/prerequisites while taking your nursing courses. I think it's great you are redoing your English. Focus and do well, it will pay off! Just as an FYI, I had a 3.9 and got into Gateway, Norwalk and BHSON. The more classes you have completed the more attractive you are to the admission committee. Hope this helps. Good luck.

wow, thank you! i just got home from clinical and my teacher said us to consider this patient practice so i didn't even have to hand in the paperwork for this client but this is a great help. surprisingly, this client had a lap chole! her pain level was at a 10 all day even with 5mg of inj morphine q6h with percocet prn q4h. she was very difficult to ambulate, and when i did get her moving, she scared me to death. got about 10 feet and was in severe distress, she became very vocal, began to cry and became diaphoretic saying she was experiencing muscle spasms in her anterior thigh. she was 336 pounds so the assist of two wouldn't have been sufficient. rushed to get a cardiac chair and got her safely back to bed. said this is a common thing at home, and her mom gives her a "shot of vinegar" to relieve the cramping. learned a lot that's for sure! anyway...thank you tremendously for the post. i know it took some time and it's full of great info. i will use it often. hope you have a great holiday and weekend!

Hey everyone. Got my assignment today and I need 6-10 nsg diagnosis for a 25 year old female with cholelithiasis that just had a cholecystectomy today. She has a history of cholelithiasis (had a bout of stones last year, no surgery needed), she is morbidly obese, African American, and that is all. I have some but I am hitting a dead end. Also, can I use Imbalanced Nutrition: less than if she is obese, my rationale is that she isn't digesting fats because of the gallbladder dysfunction. I have: Acute Pain r/t to inflammation of tissues (or surgical procedure) Risk for deficient fluid volume r/t vomiting (or medically restricted intake) Deficient Knowledge r/t dietary modification Imabalanced nutrition; less than body requirements r/t inadequate bile secretion Risk for infection r/t invasive procedure Any help would be soooo much appreciated. You can also check with the area hospitals. Not sure where you live but I know that most of the hospitals in CT offer the course. I think for around $70.

You have been so helpful. I think we have a mutual friend, Mary? She passed on some other info you sent to her a while back...so of course I have more questions....about the dorms. What are they like? I'm considering this option just to have a distraction free space but I don't know much about how it works or what they are like. Any insight would be highly appreciated. I got a letter yesterday with the medical and health requirements paperwork...there sure is a lot we need to do before starting school.

i called them on friday; they said they would be sending out a preliminary letter outlining some of the tasks that need to be completed prior to orientation on monday (yesterday) but that the full packet of orientation material wasn't ready yet!! argghh...i'm so anxious.

I too, will be attending BHSON in the Fall. Will you be doing nights or days? I'm going days. Look forward to meeting all of you and finally getting started!!!

i applied to gateway, bhson and norwalk for fall 2007. i got in all 3, seems bhson is the easiest to get in to and that is where i will start this fall. my gpa was around 3.9 and i took all of my co/pre-requisites at gateway. most people that did not get into gateway but applied elsewhere got into one of the programs. good luck!

I was the same way until I took it a few weeks ago. It's really not that bad. They test you in 4 sections, English, Reading, Science and Math. Order the book, it will help you get an idea of what type of questions will be asked. For the most part it is common sense or things you have already learned (grammar, sentence structure)..the only thing I recommend brushing up on is Math, you will be asked questions with metric convetrsions, algebra and fractions. Most people in my group did not complete the Math section in the allowed time. If you have any more questions feel free to send me a message. Good luck.

I'm currently taking A&P 1, Chemistry and Intro to Psych, working fulltime and maintaining a 4.0. It's stressful at times, but doable. Just looking forward to the END of the semester!

Thanks. I'm glad you got in again! I got a letter saying I needed to take a TEAS test as part of the application process. I'm scheduled for November 18th....stay tuned.

Thanks, everyone. I think the deadline is January 31st for my school but they strongly urge you to get your apps in as soon as possible. I don't think I can wait until Feb. to know though...not much of a choice though...

How long after you sent your application in did you hear, one way or another, about your acceptance to school? Sent in my application on Friday...and I don't wait well...

I have an Olympus 960PC, comes with a USB, the software to transfer your lectures to your pc, earphones, and a mic. I got it from Radio Shack for like $64.00. It holds 16 hours of recording too, so I don't have to transfer my lectures right away if I don't want to. I listen to it at work, all the time, I LOVE IT!

It's terrible, I'm sorry you are going through this too. What's crazy is that I am one of the people that understands the most so far, which isn't saying much at all but there are people that are giving up. One guy in my class got up and left last week, SWEARING! I have class tonight and I think I'm going to say something. I'll be damned if I let a new teacher ruin my chances of getting into school. This class counts for 20% of my acceptance into the nursing program.

Any advice for those feeling like they are going nuts and totally overwhelmed? I am currently taking A&P 1, Chem and Psych and I work fulltime. I have had 2 tests in A&P this week (lecture and lab), a Psych test and Thursday I have a Chemistry test. The problem is this: it is my Chemistry professor's first year teaching and he hasn't really developed his teaching skills yet. You can tell he is very smart but that doesn't mean he can teach. He blows through the power point presentations in some classes and then in the next he gets halfway through, times up and we never go back. I'm very anxious because this grade means so much. Any advice? Thanks for letting me vent.
