I do not know how good this school is. If you do a search on here you will encounter alot of horror stories. I actually have a student that dropped out of thier program because as she put it, " The school is nuts." I hear you have a hard time getting a counselor, a hard time getting clinical time scheduled, and a hard time with teaching yourself nursing. My advice would be to really search the subject before you leap into the school. I know the tradtional schools are tough to get into, but at least there is no questioning it.

Hiya yuyu, I just transferred out of Moraine due to the fact that the amount of people and available seats in the RN program there is an absolute joke. Last semester I was told directly by admissions that there were 875 applicants for 50 seats. I also heard that supposedly by next year they are going to accept 100 a semester. I am currently going for my BSN due to waiting so long to get into Moraine(I do not have a 4.0 gpa) My advice to you is this. If you think that nursing may be the way you want to go then get your CNA and work in a hospital while you work on pre req's. I have worked in a hospital for 6 years. I am not a nurse, but getting the experience and seeing that the job is rewarding is what keeps me going. There are also times when I regret not going to law school. LOL!! You have to follow your own heart. I am in my first semester now, and although it really is not that bad yet, I am expecting a real rude awakening next semester. I also am very lucky to have a great support system. It comes in handy if you have someone cooking for you! The busy work is what kills me. ohsnapples, I too was going to apply there, but I was seriously turned off. Do a forum search and see what people have said about the school. Basically you are paying a TON of money to teach yourself nursing. I would think with that amount of work you would have a very tough time with it. I know it can be frustrating to try to get into other schools, but my advice would be to tough it out. I did and now I am in a nursing program with wonderful instructors and I know I am going to pass!!

I hear you on the problem with shoes. I have a morton's toe, and it makes shoe shopping extremely difficult. I talked to my clinical instructor and she was very understanding. Try that!

I will never understand why some nurses think CNA's are second class citizens. At the hospital I work for I would guess that 65% of CNA's are nursing students. When I worked CC I had a nurse who walked out of a patient room, hunted me down, and asked me to give the patient a bedpan! I could understand if she did not want to empty it, but JEEZ, it was clean! I almost died. I know what you mean when you said when they found out you were a new grad waiting to take your boards and the nurse changed her tune. I am not yet a nurse, but a EMT-P. Before I left the floor I think I received a little more respect. You will remember this though, and when you are a nurse you will be kind to CNA's! :)

MY two cents... I work in a Central Telemetry room. Mind you this room is about 10x6. With a window that they bolt shut to keep the room "climate" controlled for all the pc's that we use. I have TWO coworkers that fit the bill with what you are talking about. One is so gross that she constantly toots and the laughs about it. It is filthy. Several of my coworkers and I have talked to her about it on a bunch of occasions. She laughs at us and thinks it is a big joke. If I feel the need to toot, I walk outside in the hallway. Finally I got fed up and told the supervisor and now...fresh air for all. We work in the health profession. I have lots of understanding for alot of gross things because I see it on a daily basis. But this had to stop. You have to be very assertive and let this person know she is offensive. If she does not rectify her "problem" or at least go in the bathroom to do it, speak to the supervisor! Just my two cents...

Hi Chelli, I had a phone interview once with Edward Hospital in Naperville. The only thing that came to mind while I was on the phone is it seemed like I was in the actual first part of an interview without having to be there. You know, where they ask you what are you strengths/ weaknesses, what kind of person are you, how do you respond to stress...etc. It seems like something that employers are trying to do to see if you fit what they are looking for before you come in and discuss pay, benefits, and all the other good stuff. Don't worry too much about it, just be prepared to be on the phone for a while. As for the nclex, I can not help you there yet!! But hopefully you can help me out one day! Hi Kathy! I work for Advocate and there are several people who I work with who have advanced degrees and they are switching to nursing. I do not think that Lutheran General would look down on you in ANY way because of that. One thing about Advocate is they are SLOW in the HR department. What I did 5 years ago when I wanted to work as a CNA was called the HR department and expressed interest. This worked, I got a call 3 days later to come in for an interview. I also do not work there, but I have heard nothing but good things from a coworker who worked at Rush for years. Excellent hospital..etc. So good luck and welcome to Chicago!:wink2:

I am not yet a nurse, but a Telemetry Tech and a Paramedic. The thing that works the best for me after working a evening/night double is a cup of coffee at about 6am. Since I am a caffiene junkie this never disrupts my going to sleep. By the time I get home and take a shower it is lights out... Try it!

Prarie State has a great LPN program, a friend of mine just graduated and is in the process of bridging to RN. She has nothing but great things to say about Prarie State. Good Luck!:nuke:
