  1. It truly depends on where you want to be and what your ideal living standards are. I currently live in Alabama, here LTC nurses start at $16.50, medical office $11.00, Hospital $13.50 w/ shift diff when positions are available. I have been in TN where we started at $15 for office work, $20 for LTC, no hospital positions avail. In TX I started at $22.50
  2. First of all, I commend all of you who work for Davita and have great relationships that show what the company actually stands for. I am however a former Davita employee. I was the only LPN when I worked there (and the only one since I left the last time I spoke with any former co workers). I too experienced the horror stories and was told I would not last. I stuck it out for eight months. The facility that I worked at was just awful, if you were not a ***kissing team member. I departed my employment not by choice... I was placed on complete bedrest by my OB for a high risk pregnancy at 4 mo. Followed all company rules regarding the "Davita Leave of Absence" reported updates for my condition, even up to the date of delivery. At the six week post partum, I called to tell my FA when I could return to work and found out that she had terminated my employment 3 months earlier without any notice to me. So watch yourselves closely if you have a FA that is vindictive or uncaring.

I have worked in the hospital setting, and Mandatory overtime is required during times of need (high patient admissions/volume). But no more that 15 hours can be worked without a sufficient break (additional lunch time

  5. Is the shelter you are working (and your self) considering the possible implications that could arise from medication administration? Once the medication is taken out or there orignal containers, it is quite possible to mix up pills especially with those that look alike. There are certain medications that must stay in a sealed container in order to maintain its stability. Also are you not concern of the possibility of giving the incorrect medication and causing harm? Also theft of certain narcotics or pain meds.
  6. Lpn (and proud) making $17/hour. Started working as an LPN 6 years ago making only $10.80 in a doctors office . Normal base pay here in the N. Alabama is $11.15 for LPN ($10 for new grads if you're lucky for doctors office) $15 to $16.50 in LTC. (Who really wants that stress:uhoh21:) RN pay is base is $18 for both hospitals and MD. office w/ shift diff up to $4/hr. I am a clinical research nurse, love what I do. Have very little client interaction but a lot of paper work d/t the nature of the job. In RN school, but making what normal New Grads make in the area. So I'm content . Also with my upcoming certification as a research nurse looking to get a $3.50 raise
  7. Hey, what you plan on doing is definitely do-able. I graduated five years ago with my LPN. I worked full time, 5 - 11 and had a 5 month old newborn. I will admit it was hard, but you just have to balance life and make a schedule and stick to it. Keeping up with assignments, reading ahead and having questions makes it easier. Also get to know classmates and have a study group in between classes and email questions to each other. Hey everyone, I too am proud to be a LPN:monkeydance: I work in a dialysis unit, where I have had all except one RN tell me that I was nothing but a PCA, to include the supervisor/clinical director. I've had the comments made that they have much more education and a better understanding of what's going on with our patients and the human body. You should have seen their faces when I told them I held a B.S in Biology/Psychology with experience in cardiology. Also, that I had over 15 hours in Health Care Administration. I chose not to pursue my RN because I believed in patient care, most new RN's are in it for the money and spend very little time really caring for the patient, both physically and mentally/emotionally.
  9. Where have you experienced this? I am an LPN, that gets paid an average of $6 less than an ADN and do the same work. I am in a RN program, but will not work for the same employer because in conversation, will only get a $2 increase in pay when I'm finished.
