Hi Everyone... I haven't posted here in a while but I have a situation that I need a little advice on. I graduated from nursing school in Dec 2005 and took and passed the boards in August of 2006 and became pregnant shortly thereafter. I decided to stay in my current field of finance because I didn't think it was a good idea to make a career change while pregnant. I am due to have my baby in August and would like to find a p/t nursing job after my maternity leave...instead of going back to finance. I'm going to try to re-read some of my textbooks and some of the nursing journals just to keep my knowledge from going stale. Do you think I will have a chance of getting hired after taking the boards a year before and not working as a nurse? Any suggestions on what i can do in the meantime? Any advice is greatly appreciated!! Thanks!

It may also be that some people just aren't good test takers...as in my case. I made dean's list all through school but just passed the nclex on my second try.

Chiefy! Congratulations! I have been away for a few days and am just catching up on the boards. I agree with you in that the 2nd time I tested, I had a different point of view mentally. That is such a big part of the exam. You just need to tell yourself you can do it and you can! Congratulations again!

I took the NCLEX-RN yesterday and just found out I passed. My state web site had my license up in 24 hrs! I can't believe it! My stomach still hurts. It has been nearly 2 years since I graduated and nearly 10 months since taking a Kaplan review course and I still did it! All you repeat testers out there, it can be done. Just remain calm and think positive! This was the tough part for me. I am a horrible test taker and by nature a pessimist. The test shut off at 75 questions and at first I felt confident but at time went on I really wasn't sure. But it's done and I am sooo happy! Now I can actually read a book for pleasure! :balloons:

Chiefy, When do you test? If it is soon you may want to stop doing questions or you will psych yourself out. The same thing happened to me...I went from 94% to 82% because the 2nd time around I wasn't concentrating. Last night I did some Kaplan questions on the Qbank and got a 43%...because my wireless connection kept going out and I wasn't concentrating. Did a few more tests and improved to 63% and then 80% on a 15 question test. I take the NCLEX again TOMORROW! My husband told me to just walk away......don't do anymore questions. Keep your chin up...my scores fluctuated too. I was pretty calm the past few days but I have a nervous tummy today!

My test is at 8:30am! I don't think I'm going to do anymore questions but I am going to review my kaplan book a little....not much. I just have to try to remain calm...Mind over matter, right?! Good luck to you!

I feel the same way! I am taking the nclex-rn tomorrow for the 2nd time. I felt fine a few days ago but now I have a nervouse stomach. My husband has advised me to walk away and not do anymore questions because now I'm psyching myself out.

Good luck Sunny! Sounds like you did great. I am a second timer too...and I test tomorrow! I was fine a few days ago but now I am getting butterflies in my tummy! I am a very bad test taker..I panic! So I am trying to stay calm...which I think is 90% of it. I did Kaplan and Mosby and scored pretty well on both. How did you prepare the second time? Were you much more calm this time?

Does anybody know what the difficulty level number means?

Hi All, I have just taken the Mosby CAT NCLEX RN predictor online and I'm a little confused by the information it gives you at the end. I answered 75 questions and it gave me a 94% probablity of passing and it said "Consistent Difficulty Level Achieve" was 0.076. Can anyone tell me what this means? They don't give you a lot of information when you sign up for it. I appreciate any info you guys can give me on this! I test next week (for the 2nd time) so I'm just trying to figure out where I stand. I have also been doing Kaplen Qbank and QTrainer (have done 6 out of the 7 tests)and my scores are: Test 1 67% Test 2 61% Test 3 63% Test 4 59% Test 5 68% Test 6 75%

Do you mean calculation questions? If so, I didn't have any. The entire test was on Safe and Effective Care Evironment (it is one of my weak areas so I did a whole test on it.) and there were no calculation questions. However, I just went back and checked and there were to alternate type questions. Are those not included? If so, why?..or why not? as the case may be.

I've been doing the Kaplan Qbank and noticed that in the Final Analysis the number of questions doesn't always match the ACTUAL number of questions that I answered. For example, I did a 30 question test tonight but when you go back and review the Analysis, it says 21 correct, 7 incorrect, total=28. What happened to the other two questions? When you go and actually review the questions, it lists 30 of them. ??? Can anyone explain this to me?

To Buddhanah & Cheryld1959 I'm very sorry that you both failed. I took the test in June 2005 and failed as well. I then took a Kaplan course in Oct 2005, never took the exam, and am now taking the test again next month. I actually work in a different field but I may do Nursing someday so I am taking the exam. I know how you both feel...I cried for an entire weekend...I made Dean's list all through school but I am a very bad tester. I basically had a panic attack when question 76 popped up because I thought for sure I would get out in 75 questions. So, take the time you need and then try to regroup and put together a study plan...maybe it's not content that gives you problems but test taking like me. I'm trying to teach myself to calm down and breath...and Kaplan was a great resource for learing how to break down the question and eliminate answers. Best of luck to you both!

Does anyone have any tips for studying pharmacology? I am taking exam next month for 2nd time and have been out of school since Dec 2004. Took a Kaplan course in Oct 2005 but haven't taken the test since then. My first try was June 2005. Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

Hi Everyone. I'm new to this site and having been reading posts for a few weeks, but I saw this thread and just had to respond to it. I graduated from nursing school in Dec 2004 and almost quit with only two semesters left. My husband convinced me to finish. I ended up going back to my old career...finance. By the time I was close to finishing nursing school I was completely disenchanted by the whole field. However, I graduated, and six months later, in June 2005, I decided to try to take the boards. Well, I failed....I basically had a panic attack in the middle of the exam...I've never been a good tester...ever since I was a kid. But I made Dean's list all through school. Anyways, I did my crying and continued to work in finance. But it kept bugging me that I never passed the test. So, in Oct 2005 I took a Kaplan course and vowed that I would take the boards by the end of the year. Did I? Nope. I am now taking them for the 2nd time next month. So, I went through school, didn't become a nurse, and am taking the boards almost two full years after graduation. Why? Well, I feel like I need closure. And I'm discovering that there are many other options out there besides working in a hospital. I'm considering starting a family soon and I think that having the RN under my belt could open up a wealth of opportunities for me. But, I think it's just timing for some people...I'm at a better point to take the exam now, I already feel more confident, and I have been re-doing my Kaplan Question trainer and scoring in the 60's. So I thought I would just give you a point of view from someone that's been there...is there. Anyways...great to meet you all! Wish me luck on the boards! I hope...no, I KNOW..... that this time is THE TIME.
