I als work nights extremely difficult at times but I love my night staff we all get along and I know that's hard to come by. I would never switch to days. Anyway I do have a nine year and when I work I send her to my mother in law because my fiance schedule is jacked up also so when I have to do 3's she spends the night over there I pay her though because she's not working at 800 a month not to mention she also goes to private school. I miss just being a regular parent sometimes just spending time together everynight but it also has its good side we have days off were we can spend all day together. I'm completing my first year and I want to work in a hospital so you take the good with the bad off to NP school in Jan so I won't have to deal with shifts for long

Like an earlier post stated it all boils down to personal opinion. I agree they had their issues in the past. I dont know exactly what it was because I have heard so many things flying around. LIU has revamped their whole nursing program and no like I said in my previous post it was not easy but nursing is not easy. They have implemented the Hesi exam after each semester in addition to taking a medmath test every semester they administer three and if you dont pass ;you dont move on to the next level but the exams are fair. I feel like they bend over backwards to help their students they have remedial classes for the Hesi and they also offer med math classess. You have to go speak to the advisor for yourself and ask what has been the passing rate for the last year or two because they have gone through a real transformation. I definitely recommend LIU. At this point I just started NYPH-Columbia and Nursing School is nothing compared to the real world of Nursing I feel so lost like everything they taught me is down the drain. Yes school was hard but this is no joke. I do believe I gained a great Nursing eduction from LIU but that is just the starting point. LIU grad 2007 w/ no regrets except the cost LOL:nurse:

My school does the same thing. Hesi is the final exam for all the main classes Med-surg, L&D/Peds. We also had to take it for advance Med-Surg. Yes it was worth 30% of the grade but if we passed the class although we failed the Hesi we would need to do remedial. I dont think its a way to weed out the class @ all although I use to have the same thoughts. You'll see when you have to take the dreaded Nclex that the Hesi test has nothing on hesi. Anyway you can do it. I did graduated in May work at NYPH.

I just graduated from LIU and I have no idea what you are talking about. I mean everyone is entitled to their own opinions but I have to disagree. I absolutely loved the professors they were nurturing and offered much guidance. I was not an A student either. It was definitely rough but what Nursing School isnt and from what I hear all of ous have passed the Nclex so far. GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO LIU SON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hello Im 28 years old and I also have a child and just graduated with my BSN in May. I hardly work because nursing school was so difficult and I also had to take care of my daughter. I can say those was the most difficult days of my life. There were days when I thought I just would not make it. Not having any money and the stress of school was so difficult. I decided that I had to make a decision it was either school or work. I decided to go to school and I knew my credit would take a big hit. My score was in the 700's I just checked my report and it is now in the 500's. Im still happy with my decision I just have to dig myself out of all this debt and I plan on paying everyone. I start working in Sept. Is there anyone that has been through a similar situation? Hey how many new grads do you know can graduate and make in the mid 70's a year. Whatever your decision is say alot of prayers and have faith. I always relied on God then and now and he always got me through. We may not have had what we wanted but we definitely had what we needed. When I saw the words passed on the Quick results from NCLEX I knew that my struggle was almost over.

I agree with FutureRN19. I do not believe there is a way for them to find out if you passed or failed but Im pretty sure there is not. From what I understand you can take that exam plenty of times and no one would ever know as far as hospitals or concerns.

Im so glad many of ous can relate to one another. I have been there with my fair share of cut-off notices, reposition threats and it is miserable. I think it was by Gods grace alone that we were able to get through nursing school with all the stress most of ous had to deal with. I always asked God if everything else was taken from me for example my car to atleast let me continue school. I sometimes dont know how I made it. My parents would give my daughter five dollars just so she could have a little change for chips at the store and things like that and I would have to ask her if I could borrow it she is only 8. Im still struggling ( i have not taken NClex as yet) but now I can touch my dream. Graduation was the happiest day of my life because I made it through with trials and tribulations. I never would have thought that I would go through such a struggle but I really wanted this no matter what stood in the way. I just worry about my credit so much because that, is the only way Ill get an apartment. I knew when it got rough I had to make a decision to either worry about bills or follow my dreams. Needless to say I followed my dream. Congratulations to all of you who made through

I notice that most hospitals have a waiting list for an apartment. Does anyone know how ong the list is generally and how long one would have to wait. Wow 8 months is awhile JennaRN1006. Hang in there Im sure it will come through. Also do the hospital go through the standard credit check and everything else it takes to get an apartment in nyc. My credit is shot at this point. So many bills, not that much money at this. Taken nclex next month that is my night in shinning armor

Thanks Mllogy for the encouragement. I had a interview with NYP-Columbia the Nurse Manager stated she was interested in me but she needed me to have a license first. What I have notice about MSKCC is that they usually pull there new grads from the internship pool. You guys get first dibs so I would not worry if I was you I know people who interned there and are already working.

I knew that MSKCC was a great hospital but I surely did not know that they offered subsidize housing. Wow that is great and I cant believe they pay half of the cost. I know NYU also offers housing at a reduce rate but they definitely dont pay half. Does that come out of your check at all. I so desperately want to work there. I applied but have not gotton a response as yet so I guess I'll wait until I take the NCLEX to apply again:o.

Thanx so much gt4everpn for this info. I have been looking for open houses for the past month since graduating. I will be attending this open house. I just wanted to know if anyone has any info about this hospital as far atmosphere? pay? orientation? are they receptive to new grads? are they on 8 or 12 hour shifts? Any info would be extremely helpful thanks.

Just graduated on May 10, 2007 from LIU Brooklyn Campus.:balloons: :balloons: :balloons: :balloons: . So happy and excited and also relieved. Have not even picked up the nclex review books yet. Hopeful to start Kaplan nex week

well the big day has finally arrived!!!! Graduation is May 10, 2007. I have definitely struggled. I didnt know how I would pay rent, car note or College but its over. So excited to go from making about 8,000 to 72,000 (live in NY). Im glad I read this forum. The first thing I wanted to do was trade this car in and just have fun for once. I will try to be smarter. I have so much debt that I want to pay off. Lord knows what that credit report looks like. Im just glad its over. Now I can breathe and relax for once

Hello Gerry, do u know how much new grads are making now at St.lukes R I am considering working there. Also do they allow students to work off of a permit until they take NCLEX, I really like that they have a nursing union.

Hey, there is a Georgia thread just like this one. There is tons of info up there, I am also considering ATL but I will be graduating in May. The salary is not great but I guess everything is relative. I heard from the thread peidmont hospital was a nice place to work. Maybe u could also post ur question on that thread. Good luck

Does anyone know if they hire graduate nurses without having taking there NCLEX. I guess the term is hiring with a permit. I graduate in may would love to work there but I need to start right away I need money really bad at this point. Also if they do can someone tell me how the process works. Do you just send in your application and resume and there call or do they have a recruitment office. Thank u so much

Im sorry your right. Have u ever heard of a bridge program for LPN's usually they are for nurses. I know an LPN that attends LIU and she has been an LPN for at least 15 years. You may have to start from the beginning.

Try LIU the brooklyn campus. They have an bridge program, there admission process is not difficult by no means. They are just a little to expensive but hopefully Ill be out of there by May, 2007

not at all in fact some areas are very up and coming. I can say try to stay away from east new york and certain parts of bedford stuyvesant but all and all brooklyn is nice to live. The prices are increasing though I guess everyone has found out the next best thing to NYC

:spin: Hi Everyone, IM not from GA but I cant wait to move there after I finish my MA but Im still trying to get through my BSN first, Ill be graduating in May finally:balloons: . Im not sure what I should pursue CNS or NP. I just NP will have prescription rights in GA so that is a good thing. Im from NY and the job market for NP's is pretty overcrowded so I have heard but IM not sure about CNS. Is it the same out there. Would it be better to pursue the CNS? How is the job market for this profession? I have not really been able to view any job openings for these two positions on the net. Also if anyone could inform me what is the starting salary for the two professions in GA. Thank u so much in advance for answering my questions:spin:
