Level 1
Do you need to dilute PRBC's with NaCl prior to running through the level one? They just seem so thick....If you need to dilute how do you do it, assuming you have PRBC's on both sides of the level 1. Thanks in advance.

New Grad orientation
We use the ENA modules. We completed TNCC, ACLS, and ENPC as part of orientation. We also rotated to different areas of the hospital that we as the emergency department deal with frequently in order to "build bridges" such as cath lab, radiology, lab etc. We spent time in the department with a preceptor as well. I agree with the poster above that, maybe a little too much class time was completed. I personally learn better if I am given case studies. i.e. here is abdominal pain patient.... what ya gonna do now? and why? make me critically think!!!

Decadron question
Oh, and yea, I had heard about the perineal burning if you push it to fast. I took it nice and slow, 1 ml/2 min. Maybe too slow but I've heard that the burning is pretty intense!!!!:angryfire ACK!

Decadron question
She had gotten 1g Rocephin 1-2 hours earlier, but had NaCl running at 250/hr ever since. I had just never seen something precipitate like that before, and nothing in the drug guide indicated I couldn't give it. I later looked up Rocephin, and still didn't see where it could cause precipitant. Weird...

Decadron question
Hello everyone!! Decadron is compatible with NaCl, right? I looked it up in my med book, and didn't see any contraindications that would have been specific to my patient. So why did it look white when I gave it IVP. (Patient had NaCl hanging.) When I saw it, I stopped, and asked another nurse on my floor. She said it wasn't a problem. I would just like to know if it is in fact ok. Thanks for your input!!

Malpractice insurance?
Ok, here is another silly question. I have "heard" that you are more apt to be sued if they know you have insurance. I personally think that sounds rather silly, but I thought I would toss that out there to be sure.... Oh and by the way, thanks for the information of where to get insurance. Much appreciated.

Malpractice insurance?
Hello everyone, I was wondering what everyone thought about personal malpractice insurance. I have heard pros and cons about holding your own insurance. I just don't know which way to go. Any thoughts on the subject? I work in the ER if that makes any difference. Maybe a higher liability area? I don't know... Any comments to help me decide would be appreciated. Thanks!! :penguin:
